The Pennsylvania Works the Mill in Baldwin, 153 and a Very Mixed Manifest

The Pennsylvania heritage unit arrived at Howell Wye in Atlanta as the third unit on a 50G grain train. It tied down at Armour Yard as grain trains frequently do when waiting for another grain train to depart one of the three mills on the Greenville line. Grain trains go to either the mill in Gainesville, the one at Baldwin, or out the Commerce branch. The next day we find the Pennsylvania as lead unit running long hood forward waiting at Baldwin for permission to block the main. Grain trains for Baldwin have to pass the mill, go into the double track section, and then run around their train so it can back into the mill. While they work the mill the main line is blocked so trains will stack up on either side waiting to pass. In addition to the grain train we see two priority stack trains run ahead of the grain and then 153 and a very mixed manifest from former 237 after the mill work is finished. There is a small airport nearby but no flight restrictions so you hear them pass over every once in a while.

Very cool. I've never seen a train at the mill. Hopefully someday. It's great to see a clear shot of the back of 8102.

I heard a few years ago a small intermodal terminal was getting built in Gainesville, GA along NS. Have you heard about it?
