@@aqeelashaheed thank you so much for your kind words! Yes the coach class was perfectly fine for me! If you keep watching my other videos you will see over the course of a 30-day period I never once got bored or uncomfortable sitting in coach class. Would that being said the Western routes on the superliners, with the site see your lounge car, makes all the difference in the world! I spent pretty much 100% of my time in the sightseer lounge!
Beignets with coffee is a highlight of the visit. A frustrating part of the trip is even with four days, you can’t make a dent in the good things to eat. If you eat a 1/2 muffuletta for lunch, there is still not enough room to have a nice dinner.
When I lived in Cramerton, the Crescent went near my house, and if I was up late I’d watch it go by northbound. I got a bit obsessed with that, and decided to take the trip from Charlotte to New Orleans while I still lived there. I had a roomette, and it was very comfortable. I was seated at breakfast with the couple whose room was across from mine, so we left our curtains and doors open so we could chat as we were so inclined, until one of them was ready for a nap. The guy took my picture outside the train during the stop in Atlanta. It was March, 2008. They were still recovering from Katrina. I stayed in the French Quarter, and the street cars had started back, using old cars that had been safely stored, so I got around just fine, taking cabs just from and to the train station. It was a great trip. I don’t know whether I will do that again. They’ve changed the arrival time in Charlotte, and I haven’t checked how that might work for me. If I take it again, I’ll ride the last Piedmont of the day to Greensboro, and catch the Crescent from there, and get a good night’s sleep. The Crescent doesn’t stop in Kannapolis, but I can take the Piedmont from there. I won’t go in summer.
I took the Crescent once to NOLA but like all long distance trains outside the Northeast, the Amtrak uses freight train lines and we endured a big problem. A freight train ahead of us kept breaking down - a coupling wouldn't hold. It would go a mile and decouple, they'd fix it, it would go another mile and break down, and this went on all the way through Alabama. We were so late getting into NOLA it was past three in the morning and even NOLA was quiet all around. You have to be ready for big delays .on long distance training. If you can't endure sitting in Alabama or Nebraska for six hours going nowhere, don't take the train.
I just found you page/channel. its very enjoyable to watch. I am thinking about doing the charlotte to new orleans trip. i wonder the trip would be in jan-march time frame

@@IrisesRBlooming no, it wasn't the Mississippi River, but it was either in Alabama or Mississippi. I tried looking up the name of it but I didn't have service at the time
Birmingham is the only time between DC and NOL that the train leaves Norfolk Southern's tracks. Birmingham Station is on CSX tracks. Also the Crescent travel through more states than any other route.
@@kevinhoward9593 that is great information! Thank you so much for sharing that! I didn't even think about the number of states that it travels through, but I definitely see where you are correct! I didn't even think about it since I got on in North Carolina but you are right, it does travel through a bunch of states!
You definitely can, there's no stopping you. Even the super liners out west that are double-decker, which you will see in the next video. Our handicap accessible. Unfortunately you would have to stay on the bottom floor but there were several people in a wheelchair on the trips I have been on. You can do it!!
@@onmyway7363 they are always available for sale. However sometimes they offer a discounted rail pass. They are usually $500 but there was a sale last year in which they were offered for $450.
