Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- An eight day impromptu trip of bicycle touring and hiking throughout the island of Maui for less than $1,000 (Canadian) including flights, accommodation, and food.
Highlights include cycling up Haleakalā, hiking and camping at Hōlua Campground in the crater of Haleakalā, cycling the backroad to Hana and back on the regular route, snorkeling with sea turtles, and camping on pristine beaches. It was great to meet Brad Koko while camping at Hōlua who let me crash at his timeshare and drove me up Haleakalā to watch the sunset before I flew home.
Budget breakdown:
- Return Flight: $370
- Bike Shipping: $160
- Hostel and camping: $130
- Groceries brought from Canada: $70
- Spending cash (i.e. beer money): $200
- Pink Maui Shirt from Walmart: $12

I love riding on Maui!
Such a cool place!
That's amazing. Maui's a pretty special place and is quite expensive normally. Great to show that you can enjoy it on a budget.
Thanks for watching. One of my favourite places to have biked, I think back very fondly on this trip :)
Hey, quick question. How did you find the camping? I am looking to do my first solo tour. I have camped in Kauai before and that was awesome but I haven't found much online for Maui except a warning not to do it as its really dangerous at the campsites. I would love to hear a more first hand experience/ any recommendations you may have
Hey, I found it mostly through googling. There are a mix of county and federal campsites. If you want to message me on instagram, I can share a spreadsheet I pulled together for this ride with some camping options. @sir.bikes.alot
Wow for 1000 dolars i can cycle tour asia for 3 months
I'm sure it's relatively cheap to travel in Asia because the purchasing power of your money (assuming you come from a western country) is much higher, but the flight would have been more expensive for me.
For this trip, I only had about 8 or 9 days and booked a week or so before I left, so I choose something that close (5 hour flight), tropical, and something I could get a deal on. Of that $1,000, about 60% of it was the flight alone.
Where's your favourite place to tour in Asia? I'd love to add it to my list.
Sir Bikes Alot Vietnam is the best for me flights return from usa was 475 and most days spent 5 dollars a day some days less
Good to know, thank you.
good day bro,i saw this video its amazing man.iam planing to do this also nxtyear 2022 my question is ok to camp anywhre in maui o you need to get a pertmit to camp.thnaks for reply man.glenn from alberta
Hey Glen, I don’t think wild camping is allowed. I saw Some thing on the Internet that said if you were fishing you’re allowed to camp on the beaches but I didn’t do that. I camped mostly in private and in federal campsites. If you pay to get up to Haleakala you’re actually able to stay in the federal campsites for up to three or four days for free which is what I did. Best of luck!
oww ok,thanks for your reply bro
@@SirBikesAlot oww thanks for your reply bro.
Best of luck you’ll have a blast
Sweet! any chance you have it on Strava so we can checkout your routes?
Hey, I didn’t have Strava for this as it’s quite expensive to use my Canadian phone in the USA. With that being said, there really is only one main road that circumnavigates the island and then one road that goes up the volcano. Easily one of my most favourite places to bike.
@@SirBikesAlot haha ok thanks! I found your spreadsheet linked on reddit, that was useful
Right I forgot about that! Glad it’s useful. Cheers.
I don’t think you biked enough in this episode.
My GoPRo wasn't working when I arrived so I filmed this on my phone. Sad to say I should have got a bit more action shots with it. Oh well! Still a really fun time!
@@SirBikesAlot I was just joking! You are an animal on the bike.
Haha okay I thought that may be the case. The first day was 3,000m of climbing alone!
Wow Kelton!!! Very impressive and soooo beautiful! Thanks for sharing!!!
Very cool trip. Thanks for documenting and sharing.
This is awesome Kelton. Maui is such a special place and checking it out by bike looks like a lot of fun. Well captured. Did you eat any malasadas?
