I'm an 85 yearold Ozark hill billy and started skidding logs with a horse when i was 12 years old. Like your vid.:)
Kenny don’t ever let me down when it comes to his ( should be award winning ) farts!!! 🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣
Lmfao
One can see how well-conditioned Bill and Ken are, they pull hard, but they don't breathe hard. Back in Bavaria I skidded firewood with a single horse for a good number of years, it felt very rewarding and the companionship with my horses was very close.
A good description,” it’s kind of scary watching them skid those logs“. If you watch carefully, however, you can see how careful everyone is. No one seem to be in a rush. Everyone was always calm, including the horses, even though some of those logs were quite a pull.
I wish I had Skippers energy! He’s pushing his luck though chasing the horses. William is gaining a wealth of knowledge working with Jim.
Bill totally rocks it! I was impressed seeing him step over those cut trees - he is agile for as big as he is and being an older horse.
Good work William. Didn’t know you could dance so well.great footwork dodging the trees and logs.
The horses look so handsome when working single. You can see the whole horse like living art work❤❤❤.
Ole Bill squatting down turning on the horse power.
Oh Skippy playing in the water is the sweetest.
JIim, Brenda and William, A very entertaining video on single horse skidding logs for firewood and lumber purposes. Brenda now your gardening near your lodge house and pond. William was learning quickly hitching the chain to the logs. Ground twitching with a single horse is unique unto itself. William's first driving of Bill went well.
Jim you are such a great teacher for William. God blessed you with a great helper. Skippy made me laugh running in and out of the water on the way home 🏡...lol Skippy is a little rascal and I wish I could just hug him..
PG here, It was wonderful to see how much work William, Jim, Ken and Bill could get done. In the last frames it looks like Bill is exhausted but then he realizes the day is done and he takes off running to the barn! That was great to see.
Jim reminds me of my dad, who is 81 years old. They both work hard and a 100 miles an hour, so you'd better be hustling if you're gonna keep up with them! William is a good kid and he's gonna learn a lot from Jim!
That was real horsepower!!! As great as it is for us to see the strength Jim's horses have on video, it must be totally awesome to see the horses work in person!!!! Jim and Brenda, thank you so much for letting us come along to watch!!!🥰 I love those horses!
This is showing how they use to do it in the old days, very very interesting. Skippy is really active and makes sure everyone is doing their job well.😂😂😂😂❤❤❤🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Absolutely amazing to see the work being done as singles!!!
This is hard and dangerous work for all. Incredible footage of how it’s done!
I like the clip clop at the end. Have a great week end.
Ken looks like a lot of horse for little William!! But he does pretty darn good 👍
Hi there Jim and Brenda ❤boy they sure know what they are doing with those horses love watching them work in the different situations wow so interesting but could be tricky at times I’m sure.. that little dog is going to get himself in trouble one day lol chasing those horses the little scamp lol thanks for letting us spend some time with you guys in your daily life always look forward to your videos❤❤❤❤
🤔Always a Like always an enjoy, good teamwork and suspect Willam added a little more to his repritore working single horse skidding, nice day and work Jim/Brenda 👋
I agree with you Brenda that was scary watching William and the horses dodging the brush, rocks and Skippy. Please stay safe Jim and William. It looks like very hard work for the three of you.
This is a great adventure watching Jim work the horses and fell trees so efficiently.
Sorry you had excavator failure.
Hello from the rocky mid-coast of Maine, Brunswick, US Friday, April 12th, 2024.
skippy was adorable playing in the puddle
We enjoy sitting back in our livingroom watching you work , on your videos . Thanks for sharing , don't work too hard tho .
Good experience for William, working with Jim and being mentored in the way Jim does things. Bill and Ken continue to be kingpins in logging work. They deserve a little extra grain tonight. 😄
Bill looks like he lives that type of work, much better than plodding along with a plow!
Great video.
Loved the seeing the nuances of skidding a log out of a rocky, rutty area. I am glad not to be William. That Amish guy was working with the master teamster, new at working horses, learning logging on the job AND being videotaped by the Misses. Seems to be a lot to me for a new-ish employee.
Where was Ken at the end of the video? Did William ride him home?
Makes you realize how much work it is skidding logs. You could see Bill knew he was going home. Awesome video.
hahahahahaha I know ,he goes I'm out of here 😅
and Jim loved the ride..you
just know it.😅😊😂
Yes Bill is so powerful BUT Lady when she knows she's going home boy oh boy she pulls like a train.
Love your videos and enjoy watching. May the lord bless and protect you and Jim working the horses
Yes This is a wonderful video. William is such a strong help, and learning the log skidding just adds to his value. Thank You God bless
Riveting video. Bill did not understand William, both horses did the best they could but found the circumstances a little strange, being used to pairs, and it went well.
When finally pointed home with the stone boat and gear, Bill declared "Let's get outta here quick!" and left me wondering how William was coping, or had he headed back already.
Bill has an attitude all his own.
Greetings from Australia.
Loved the video and Skip going crazy.
Enjoyed your video Jim Brenda and the guy working with you. Thankyou have a great day.
Skippy! Ready to help wherever help is needed!
perfect day, very good coverage in! he woods..it felt like old times with my parents getting firewood for nx.yr. then letting it season good..horses were amazing in strength. this is an excellent time of year with no pesky bugs on horse or man. long day but rewarding, and william earned his Beans for sure.
Brenda is a champion at lifting stuff!
Thank you. Those horses are amazing. And Skip in the end.. so happy dog. Make me smile..
The thing I dont like about Skippy barking at the horses is when the grandkids come and ride. I must admit Im a bit shocked Jim lets Skip do whatever he wants, but I absolutely know that he is your dog, not mine and it was just an observation and not a criticism. My dogs get away with much too much especially the older I get. Also, have you ever read or listened to The Secret Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben? Its really fascinating and made me personally feel a spiritual connection I had never felt before in the woods. Finding the Mother Tree was amazing too. I love watching ALL of you work ❤
Erstaunlich. Aber ich habe es schon immer gedacht. Alles Leben ist eins.
Now that is some nice firewood for sure…horses are working great. You have to love Ken…God bless.
That Skippy is a wonderful dog...bet you are so glad you got him......lov from south alabama.
Jim , Brenda and William great video single horse 🐎 pulling out logs 🪵. 😊
Thanks for this video. I have to do this kind of job myself here as soon as the snow has gone. ( probably in about 3 weeks). I have the trees down already, but I have to get them out of the woods to get them to a trail. Interesting to see how you are doing this. By watching I learned both, how I can do it and how I certainly will not do it.
I am curious, how will you certainly not do it?
Great video ! Amazing work ! Thank you for showing real-life situations.
It's so sweet that they pull these big trees an than they get tight up at this little tree 🙈
I wonder if the students at Paul Smith's College get anywhere close to the level of education on logging with horses that William is getting in the woods with Jim. The learning curve seems very steep!
Great logging video
The more I watch you in the forest , I get a feeling of what my Grandfather did up north of Sudbury over towards Saul Ste Marie in Ontario, Canada. I was told the logs were floated down river.I am not sure If they had power tools back in the 1800 to 1920’s
Totally enjoyed this video. Lot's of horse working today.
Looking for more videos
Don't you all know that Jim and Brenda know what they are doing with Skippy? The horses are so used to him that he is not a concern to them. Plus, Skippy is very fast and agile. I loved watching him play in the water on the way home!
Skippy is a WONDER!
Your video's are always interesting and worthwhile!
This was another awesome video, the work ethic of both men ,, 👍
What a work out for both human and d horses!
Glad to hear the woodpeckers are hard at work too . 😊 . Bill is one of your pulling team , he has no problem pulling the logs .
So… I think Jim and William did a great job! However, I’m with Brenda on it’s scary watching you both pull logs, and I think Billy tolerates the pulls better than Ken, with all the rubble and such, it seems bill is a bit more patient too, all in all both horses did well. Skippy made me smile running through that water, I bet he sleeps well at night 😊
So much work. I have never seen a dog run as much as he does. Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
Yes indeed I always enjoy your videos. As a matter of fact I find myself looking forward to them every day. Thanks for sharing your world with us.
Way to help Brenda🙄🤣
Simply amazing!!
It’s amazing how you can treat perennials in transplanting them and they will survive and bloom beautiful.
Always injoy your videos
Ken and bill are as close to being twitch horses as they will ever hook them up and tell them to taker to the yard and get out of the way. They will surprise you. I love the videos God. Bless
I love the end music!
Enjoyed the video guys
Yes skippy has got to get manners jumping at working horses in the woods is dangerous to ALL I have had horses and dogs all my life and had one dog and horse that used to play chase that neither was trying to hurt each other but just had to much energy
But did have a dog get kicked ,
and did not make it so please 🙏 the horses are beautifully trained so can skippy ❤😊
Mind your own business.
That dog needs training and a leash once in a while - my opinion.
Skippy is a typical boy - playing ing water
Bill and ken are powerful
Hey Jim and Brenda When do you plan on being back at your horse logging job back in Paul Smiths College Seems like I keep missing you on the log job Still have apples for your horses
Loved the video
Looks like Skippy is going to learn a very hard lesson!
Leider.
The flowers will be beautiful but it looks like a big job.
Tough skid with heavy beech and boney soft dirt. Skip has enough energy put him to work.
Hey Jim, Throw Brenda right up on Ken & she can steer him with the logs & go back & forth.
Save you & William from having to walk along side or behind.😊
That was my job when I was a kid.
Ken's whippletree is real close to hitting his heels when he is not hitched & does on occasion. We had a horse pretty much ruined. Hitch came off, horse took off & whippletree banged his heels, tore them up & it took forever to get unafraid of a whippletree.
Out with my pony today, a few comments like 'what's the odds on that?' ..it's Grand National day. Some people want the race banned, but I reckon Bill would say 'I'll give it a go!'
Skippy has to have border colly blood
My Grandfather used just a lead line when working with a single horse skidding logs . The horse followed voice commands only. the lead line was to tie him while felling and work at the landing. Walking beside the horse does not look safe at all.
Skippy needs to respect the horses they tolerate him until he starts chasing them!
Skippys gonna get kicked if he keeps going after the horses
What do you feed that dog he never stops. That was great to see the big guys used as singles.
William needs to build just a lil porch out there ,,it is so pretty. Well,,Brenda,,I am not a scary type person,,,BUT; man Let's pray.
I like to treat cambium layer of beech stump with roundup keeps it from sprouting all that beech brush.
The difference between home & Paul Smiths like two different worlds. No snow and covered.
Question for you Jim, do you intend to make a team with Baron for horse pulling this summer? If not why ?
I would love to learn how to log with you but I live south west of Syracuse NY
💖
Good video ❤
Any Morel mushrooms?
The horses are much easier on the woods and ground skidding logs this time of year compared to tractor skidding. Wet,muddy ground can be a huge mess this time of year.
Skippy is going to get kicked in the head if he keeps chasing the horses.
Be careful Michael what you say. I made a similar comment the other day and the Karen’s of our world jumped down my throat. However I agree totally.
Skippy needs to stay at the house when they go to the woods cause the woods isn't a place for him when they are cutting timber
@@ronaldtodd4819 I have seen the results of this same thing. Truth is the truth!
If Skippy gets kicked hè had 1 grate year, more than most other dogs get their entire life in an appartment. ❤
Mind your own business.
I wouldn't let a dog chase the stock. Some day he might run them through a fence!
Is that the sound of a woodpecker?
Yep
Yep!
👍🏽👍🏽
Which one of your horse is the strongest ? I have a feeling is Bill, am'i wright ?
Thank God the horses are not as wild and crazy as the dog. He must have needed a bath on the way home.
It depends on where the horse kicks you. HA HA HA.
Hello, could you show your axes in a video? thank you so much
