Very awesome mod! I'm looking to do the same with my cabs. Are you planning to do a more in depth tutorial on how to set this up, what to purchase etc? I'm pretty familiar with USB encoders and hub but not too sure on the wiring 😂 this is great stuff! Subscribed!!
Nice work. Good alternative to buying brand new console surface. I also love how it solves the original bad layout for the Homer controls. Great inspiration. A few questions: In your description you mention: "3 extra buttons were added to each player position." But there are only 2 new holes drilled for each player, right? Or did you add buttons to the front edge? Was there a reason for the slightly farther away placement on the start (translucent buttons) for the Marge and Lisa players? Would you change anything on your placement now that you have lived with it for a while?
Thank you for the videos. I just subscribed to you. So if you want to play stock Firmware you need another set of controllers for it . Interesting. I just order mind. Should be in this weekend. Thank you the controller video as well. Do you have the links what you used on your second video? Or the software you used on this video where it boot to Mame 0.139?
Nice the setup looks 🔥Thanks for the shout out! That's a slick macro you have setup for holding the volume- button. What was the final cost for your hardware setup since you re-used the stock joysticks/buttons and control panel?
I would say about $80 for the 4 controller encoders, trackball interface board, and 10 new il Happ buttons, and the usb hub. I kept the original joysticks and already had a few buttons lying around.
Thanks for the compliment! I used a 1-1/8 inch hole saw drill bit for the button holes. For the larger holes on the plexi I used a 1-1/2 inch hole saw drill bit
Leaving a USB hub plugged into the back gives me an error message when I turn it on. It also seems to drain the battery power even though its plugged in. Not sure why
Yes! I can still play the online Simpsons and bowling. Fortunately the buttons and joystick are still recognized with the usb encoder. You just have to exit out of the emulator being used at the time and it goes back to the stock Simpsons menu. Just make sure you cross wire the Start button back to the main board so you can actually play the games
@@tkiang that's great to hear. I had a hunch splitting the connection for the Start/Live button back to the original encoder would get the original setup going since I was seeing the joysticks and other buttons being detected in the factory Simpsons game through the USB encoders, but didn't get a chance to test and confirm like you did ✅ Then again, I personally don't find myself needing to switch back to the factory Simpsons game since Simpsons is on my SD card along with the rest of the games launching via RetroArch/RetroX + RetroArch Online NetPlay. I just added a link to this video in a pinned comment on my Arcade1Up Custom 4 Player Control Panel Mod video so they can check out your setup.
Actually I just tested it. The games don’t register the USB encoders once you are in the game. I was only able to navigate the Simpsons front end menu with the USB encoders. I went a little further and wired buttons and a stick to the original Simpsons PCB and the game still runs fine and my other emulators are ok. You are right that Simpsons is not worth going back to however I might put two buttons somewhere on the J panel to at least keep Simpsons Bowling available
@@tkiang ah gotcha... yeah for those that wanted to make all controls backwards compatible for just the simpsons game that would be a pain to splice and feed back to the stock pcb all buttons. But bowling for sure isn't bad.
Yeah the Arcade 1up board does not like being connected to the USB encoder then plugged back into android via USB. I’ll try to film another video showing the wiring and show what it would take to keep the stock Simpsons and Simpsons Bowling playable
Craig is right- any zero-delay encoder will do. Here are the ones I got: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07RNQLMJR?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title. I posted another video showing the inside control panel wiring.
@@tkiang thank you so I would need to order 4 of these right do I also need 4 micro usb cords and they will come with all the wires I need and I’ll be able to split them with stock games right
@@artcadefourtwenty UA-cam keeps deleting my reply. The encoders come with A to B USB cables. Only the 12in1 board for the spinner needs micro USB. As for a hub search for 7 port switched you'll find one that matches the one at the end of the above video.
If buying that product linked to the Amazon page you only need to buy two. Each order comes with 2 USB encoders and 2 sets of wires and USB. So you need to buy two to get 4 encoders. I actually bought that set and another one with different sized quick connectors for my project: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09JLLZG4L?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=1 So total of 4 USB encoders but I get 2 sets of large quick disconnect wires (for Happ buttons) and 2 sets of smaller quick disconnect wires (for the EG start buttons and 5V led wiring). It really just depends on what buttons you decide to use.
Great mod!
Nice work, great information and lessons learned as well.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful
Like MAME System... Good Job Man...

Hi will this mod work with a nba jam cab?thanks for your time
Could you do a video explaining how you did the macros? Thanks!

Not bad. Much cheaper than my setup w/new parts kits and you also got the trackball connected ✅
Very nice mod. What did you use to cut the additional holes in the clear plastic control panel cover? They looks as good as the stock holes
Thanks for the compliment! I used a 1-1/8 inch hole saw drill bit for the button holes. For the larger holes on the plexi I used a 1-1/2 inch hole saw drill bit
is this possible with mortal combat arcade1up?
What version of mame4droid are you using? Where you able to get dig to launch mame4droid to play the roms? Or will that cause joystick issues?
Leaving a USB hub plugged into the back gives me an error message when I turn it on. It also seems to drain the battery power even though its plugged in. Not sure why
The error is normal if there's a keyboard plugged in, I don't get the error with the hub alone or only USB encoders plugged into the hub.
Did u add more buttons to the cab
Do you have Gauntlet on there ?
Where is Simpsons Bowling?
Can you still play simpsons bowling and simpsons with online play?
