About Vivo:
Vivo follows a one-of-a-kind kinkajou (aka a rainforest “honey bear,” voiced by Lin-Manuel Miranda), who spends his days playing music to the crowds in a lively square with his beloved owner Andrés (Buena Vista Social Club's Juan de Marcos). Though they may not speak the same language, Vivo and Andrés are the perfect duo through their common love of music. But when tragedy strikes shortly after Andrés receives a letter from the famous Marta Sandoval (three-time Grammy-winning Latin pop legend Gloria Estefan), inviting her old partner to her farewell concert with the hope of reconnecting, it's up to Vivo to deliver a message that Andrés never could: A love letter to Marta, written long ago, in the form of a song. Yet in order to get to Marta, who lives a world apart, Vivo will need the help of Gabi (newcomer Ynairaly Simo) - an energetic tween who bounces to the beat of her own offbeat drum to fulfill Andrés' wishes.
Directed by: Kirk DeMicco
Co-Directed by: Brandon Jeffords
Produced by: Lisa Stewart, Michelle Wong, Rich Moore
Cast: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ynairaly Simo, Zoe Saldana, Juan de Marcos, Brian Tyree Henry and Gloria Estefan - in addition to Nicole Byer, Michael Rooker, Leslie David Baker, Katie Lowes, Olivia Trujillo, Lidya Jewett

Storyboard art by: Carlos Romero!
Thank you Carlos
Next time don’t waste this beautiful persons talent by destroying it with A BLAND ANIMATION😭
So many creative choices taken out or made instantly bland.
And why the small hands 😭the storyboard body looked great and less creepy
@@pinacoladaofficial calm down, bud. The storyboard is right there, won't go anywhere.
Carlos is a master of his craft
The storyboard is so expressive and fun you can see the emotion and practicality feel it, well finished movie look so bland well being so colorful, it feels generic In a way.
My take is that the people behind it are really good at designing and placing the concept in 2D. Not that the 3D is amateur, but perhaps their strong point, even if it's less refined is 2D.
You see it in many concept art of a 3D.
What the hell are you talking about? Both versions are expressive and energetic.
I swear to God you people who aren’t animators always use the most pretentious-sounding non-arguments when talking about stuff you don’t like, all because you don’t actually know what you’re talking about and aren’t content with simply uplifting what you like or just simply saying something’s not for you.
@@PeeperSnail I agree. The monkey does look a bit less expressive but tbh the person in both views looks expressive. I don't see how it's bland at all
I feel like part of whay making it good is that it's an animatic it makes it feel as if she's moving from place to place a lot quicker sort of jumping about changing quickly
@@PeeperSnail Hello, amateur animator here! The original storyboard is much more energetic. The reason is because of the limitations of 3D, which mostly don’t allow you to do smear frames or over exaggerated movements, which is what makes the 3D version look stiffer. Sure, you can argue that she still looks energetic in the finished product, but even then when you compare it to the storyboard it looks like she’s being held back. The movements are snappy, but not exaggerated enough to compliment the overall animation style. Though, this is also a flaw caused by Gabby’s awkwardly proportioned bean-body. 3D animation just isn’t make for what this movie was going for, and I personally think this movie would have been much more visually pleasing in a 2D style.
I will not lie at all. The only way I could put up with Gabby and her antics was constantly defending her through the movie by saying "aw she's a modern day edgy 2007 scene queen" and as a past edgy alt kid it made me connect with her more. I even made "she's not like other girls" jokes it was fun when you look at her from that lens
Also when the dead pets got up to do the bad recordian session omfg was that hilarious. But I also like meme worthy recordian sessions.

Well, that is what she essentially is so I'm p sure you got it right-
It’s the only thing protecting you from that darn recorder.
Personally I like her story board face more
Same
Same
Yeah the mouth and eyes on the animated model are just too small for her face- along with her head in general being wayyy too small for her body
Me too
Same here, in her story board she doesn’t have makeup and looks much more cuter!! :)
Why is her storyboard design SO much better than the final
Because her color pallet is... Pretty much a big biiig mess
@@lamisty9-217 someone’s badly designed deviantart Mary Sue oc.
Perhaps because the model looks disproportionate. The arms, legs and face look a lot smaller in the finished version
in my opinion is because the 3d model is a total mess the color pallet, the proportion etc
@@lamisty9-217 I think that's the point of her character tbh
That she's young, and doesn't know stuff
Doesn't know how to take care of animals, play music, dress properly, etc.
I love the meaning of this song, but not the song itself. Also yeah, yall right, she'd look better in 2D. Giant head and small legs REALLY don't go well in 3D...
her whole desing makes me wanna die
@@pescuezoee exactly what my thought was when I watched the movie
her entire design looks better in the storyboard
The story board characters look more expressive than the final product
1:29 its my favorite part👁👄👁
Agreed
I really wish this movie were more focused on cuban music instead of going all over the place with the music... guys we almost got a super cute and heartwarming movie about a man that leave the woman he loved just so she could be famous but we got this... god damnit I hate miss potential in movies
It made sense for her cause she was into electronic and hip hop pop music and was raised in America, away from her cuban roots
It wasn't that bad
@@makaniistorm8664 It could have been a movie about her connecting to her roots via her Great Uncle and Vivo. It would have been cute!
@@happyllama1160 True, I would probably be more entertained with Andres (Was that the name?) alive and being surrounded by the culture.
Gaby’s recorder ruined the movie
It’s a bit sad how static her character remained. This song shows how by saying “I’m not like other girls” and forming so much of her identity around that she is isolating herself and actively harming those around her. Her mum points that out too on several occasions however at no point in the movie does she go through any sort of meaningful character development to change this. In any other movie the message for her would be to realise that though she is unique, she has similarities with other characters and that they are unique too. Every other character has to change around her, a good example being the girl scouts who only befriend her because Vivo fights off a snake as opposed to her overcoming her ego and them realising that she is trying her best or even connecting through a mutual interest in music. Static characters can work. Paddington never really changes but it works because his stories are about him changing other people’s lives and minds and bringing light to the experiences and difficulties of immigrants moving to the UK. But this movie is a travel movie which always relies on character development and Vivo seems to set up the dominos for it without ever knocking them down.
That is so long😂😂
@@tahirajansen8544 I could make it longer 😂 I miss doing essays 😭 I love English literature but chose not to pursue it academically because I like being able to have money and afford things. Not many opportunities for literary analysis in software engineering though.
The most tragic part is 1:55 because it looks like the storyboard artist understood it and you can see she looks like she's either doubting herself or forcing herself, better implying a need for growth. Then the actual movie version is just her doing a pixar face and she just feels like a jerk :(
I really think they ended up cramming way too much into this movie, which proved detrimental for its characters.
@@mamasgirl987 I also enjoy this part of the storyboard 1:30 - to when the spotlight scene ends
In the storyboard she looks very confused and lost, as well as sad. While in the movie it just shows her looking bitter and sad- I just feel like there's a difference.
I hate this song so much, but at the same time it’s AWESOME
I hate it but I also love it.
Yeah
agreed
yeahhh
Hate it. 10/10
This makes me wish this movie was in 2d
Woah those storyboards are amazing! Does anyone know the artist who made them?

Nevermind, their name got added. Thank you video description!
I think the storyboard better, I mostly think its just more simplistic. There's so much going on in the final, in the characters eccentric colors and the background. I just personally think it looks better simple.
Her entire songs was her being extra. The background being simple wouldn't have matched
@@jaylabell2886 Yeah I agree. The background is so dull, but I felt bad with my opinion of this because I know how hard animation is. But, how can you make a song about being “extra” and not go extra?
Yeah and just
The face in the final is 10% of the head
Gabby rly said “I’m not like other girls”
She's got purple hair and a checkered tie of course she's not like other girls
She's a monstrosity
The autotuned "you don't know me!!!1!" broke me. I can't take it seriously.
@@sagesstuff4761 that is a fact...she is a monstrosity she scared vivo
Don't bother her Gregory, she got purple hair and pronouns
@@Roryberry4 a meme reference to Fnaf security breach it's not in the game but... Yeah
This scene and her character design are just eye murder. And this song is so ear murder
Didn't Sony make this movie?
(Rhetorical question. Just saying it's expected for it to be subpar.)
And that's the point..?
@@LIZArdsFail There are characters that are annoying and sing badly that do so in a charming way. Gabi fails to do either of those things.
Also on the eye murder end, I got scared for epileptic people the second this song started. It's a TERRIBLE thing to have something this flashy and overwhelming, ESPECIALLY in a kid's movie, which are usually supposed to be accessible for everyone.
Storyboard gives more taste than the final design idk why but seeing her look crazy like dang its perfect
Tbh I'm getting really tired of most 3d movies because there are so many like it I would LOVE to see 2d animation such as wolfwalkers and Klaus which were more unique, not all 3d movies are bad just most of them have the same style but others such as spider verse which a comment mentioned has a unique style.
I’m not sure they are better movies because the style is overused, but they are more enjoyable than movies that don’t take any steps forward with the 3d style like this one. The Mitchells Vs The Machines was amazing because it took the unique 3D style of Into the SpiderVerse and built upon it to make the entire thing look completely different. Even Encanto looks amazing despite the saturation of copycat movies trying to emulate the 3d Disney style because of the leaps forward it made with 3d technology and effects. With so much emphasis on dancing, 3d was definitely the correct choice for that movie.
I think one of the reasons why Klaus and Wolfwalkers were so enjoyable visually was the change from the overused Disney Renaissance style that used to be oversaturating films. Klaus obviously used new technology to light the film giving it the unique look and WolfWalkers took inspiration from old Irish carvings and illustrated manuscripts.
And here's the thing- there are so many 2D animated series, yet so few 2D animated _movies._ Which I think is really weird.
@@happyllama1160 I agree I didn't mean to come off as if all 3d movies sucked but movies such as spider verse that make they're 3d art style more unique unlike others that usually have that same sort of style that try to copy the Disney art style I didn't mean all 3d movies were bad ill correct myself.
@@happyllama1160 I'm liking the way Turning Red is looking too- so 3D movies can definitely feel unique!
@@krash1220because tv doesn’t have the budget to make 3d animation that looks good so they resort to 2d since its quick, easy, and importantly cheap
The fact that they tried to make the song sad with an auto tune you'd find in a rap song but it just makes it that much more funny
True.
tbh i like the storyboard more than the 3d animation
Love to see that the sketch always looks better than the final product, even in professional movies XD
when the entire internet thinks that the storyboard looks better you know something went wrong
There are very few songs that I hate but absolutely adore at the same time. This is one of them.
I find the storyboard way better. I honestly thing the movie could of been really cute as 2d. I think the 2d is more child like, more energetic, but that’s just my opinion.
That whole scene just felt like they made it extra load, extra colorful, repetitive lyrics, and fast moving objects just to keep kids now a days entertained. The story board looks way better
The sad thing is that kids are a lot smarter than people give them credit for and can understand emotional and complex media if given the chance. Unfortunately media producers think kids just like chaos and colours.
@@happyllama1160 I agree vary much so.
when the storyboard is more appealing than the final
Damn, I kind of wish that they did the whole movie in the story board style!
Storyboard artist are so cool dude
I like how in the story she more expressive and less energetic. In the actual movie she’s not very expressive and moves so much it’s kinda annoying. Or maybe i just like 2D more than 3D but I just like the storyboard Gabi more
how is it that she looks so much more expressive in the storyboard version?
because in the storyboard she has a chin and doesnt have tiny arms / legs and eyes / mouth
Did Lin Manuel Miranda really rhyme violin and tambourine??? This man can write music, why did he write this?
If only they kept that style when animating 💀
They should’ve made the movie 2D and unique like klaus
I wish her proportions looked like her storyboard proportions because that just leaves so much body to move around and express with than her tiny arms
I think we all low key hate her and this song, but the song is stuck in our heads and we are too curious so we ended up here.
this really is the sad truth…
Weird, I guess I'm not human. I actually like this song....
@@ijustwanticecream7216 for real
The reason you guys enjoy the storyboard design more is because it’s less detailed, her actual outfit is sensory overload.
I LOOOOOOOOOVE STORYBOARD!!💜💛
Her storyboard design is much better honestly. Better proportions, not so flashy with the outfit, and surprisingly more expressive.
I haven't seen much of this movie, but everything I've seen has lead me to believe that it's just an hour and a half of kids torturing the little monkey in song.
i wish they kept her old expressions, they made her do these weird scrunched up faces all the time i hate it
the fact that this song is so chaotic that rapper autotune is for the sad slow moment is possibly mind blowing, the word possibly being because this song already kills your mind
When the storyboard is better then the final product, I think you messed up *somewhere*
it’s the 3d model for the girl it’s like stiff idk
her face is squashed
Honestly, I loved this movie. And the soundtrack.
Ykw same
You know, i think most people prefer the storyboard because it's waay more expressive, which is okay! I prefer it too. I might as well speak for everyone by saying, "2D fits way more!" Making everything 3D makes it lose its charm. Good 3D can be shown in movies like Encanto. It was perfect because it just fit the entire setting. Especially with the dancing, it was basically MADE for it. This.. isn't the case here. This song would've probably fit 2D MORE. Heck, Gabbis entire design looks better! I wish people would TRY and make more 2D movies, because it's definitely possible to make it look GOOD. Take Wolfwalkers for example, they perfected that with purely just drawing! Sure, it can take a while, but it's absolutely worth it.
I love how terrified vivo is in both versions
all " im not like the other girls" girls are gabby kinnies change my mind
She's Cool 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Her face looks better in 2D
1:30
My favorite part😍
NO FR this was my favorite part of the entire song and I wish they made an extended version 😭
Ngl, the storyboard version of Gabby looks so much better, her face is less scrunched and is more expressive.
OMG 2:24 IS THE BEST PART I LOVE IT SO MUCH
💀
Weird to see all of the negative comments. I don't see a problem. The animation team clearly put a lot of work into the final outcome. Obviously storyboarding allows for more flexibility and freedom in some scenes, but it's never expected for the final product to be an identical match.
I know a lot of people say that the whole movie should be in 2d but maybe at least this song could've been in 2d kinda like how the animation style would change for the other songs, they were such cool transitions it kinda sucks Gabi's song didn't get that
*Insert generic 'storyboard is better' comment here*
Ok... unlike most of ya I can say WHY the storyboard is better, especially for this particular song. The song is vibrant, bombastic, and fast paced. The designs look like they were made for a slower less energetic movie. Compare Gabi to the Emojis in the Emoji movie. Now regardless of your opinion of either fil the emojis when they were fast moving and sporatic looked like they could handle the tension of such a scene where as Gabi seems to be struggling to keep up with the music.
This is design based, in her storyboard she is a 2D character that isn't bound by a preset model that realistically has less range of movement, like even with her legs if during the recorder march if she lifted them up too much the skirts fabric would clip through her leg or do other weird things, her mouth an eyes are smaller and less expressive because they can't stretch and shrink in all directions without looking off putting. The 3D model has the benefits of being more defined and giving greater weight to a character and this is all well and good when it's a weighty scene... but in a scene where they are supposed to move like squash and stretch 2D cartoons it benefits for them to be 2D cartoons. Her eyes can grow and shrink, her leg can kick up to her noes and all that has to be done is an animator 'stretches' the skirt when he draws it. I've not seen the whole movie but for the most part I feel like the models they made fit the rest of the film in a more grounded state but here they should have cut the scene or to really push the other worldly and 'fun' vibes switched it to full 2D animation to allow the animated character to be Animated.
Short Version: The 3D model was made in such a way that fast moving and goofy humor would always fall flat when compared to a 2D version like the story board.
The storyboard artist is Didier Ah-Koon
omg the bass and beat to the part "I know it seems like im lonely people assume that im lonely" is just amazingg!!!🥰
I feel like the storyboard has more energy than the final product
Her Story board desing is so much better like-
Underrated masterpiece
Me: I down to the beat of my heart
huh
The storyboard art looks so much better imo
i love how the pets in the storyboard are named differently than in the movie and also the storyboard had colours
After listening to this song multiple times I'm either immune or crazy at this point
The storyboard design is energetic yet simple and makes sense, the finale version is just a 2013 deviant art oc
How is a 3D, colored, fully animated scene manage to look so BLAND comparing to the storyboard
She’s the literal embodiment of “I’m not like other girls” from fucking Tumblr
My eyes the whole video ⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️⬆️
I love you, sony
Can I just talk about how the colors are much better in the storyboard? Like, using a red background for most scenes fits so much better than purple. It starts off with this really light shade of red, which already makes things feel a little intense, which matches the feeling of the song. It's loud and repetitive. And when everything gets even more red at the end, it feels so much more powerful and big. So much so that it feels like you're watching a villain song. The original has just so much going on with the colors. It's just kinda hard to feel? It's hard to describe, but matching the colors with the actual beat of the song, really helps it. Because this song is so fast and so sporadic, the colors of the original just don't match as well. The change in character design was also a lot better. Making the girl bigger and more expressive just makes everything feel so much more huge and heavy. So whenever she stomps, you can kinda feel it.
1:30 this is my personal favorite part in the song
Me too 😁😛
this is great!
soo cool
Crazy that the storyboard feels more expressive than the final product
This is the movie where I realized I'm old.
I actually prefer the "opresive normies" incarnated on the girls scouts a lot more that the "individual and independent woman" is framed in the movie as the one I should be cheering for
THIS SONG IS AMAZING, so catchy!!!!
As much as I agree with others that she may be a 'Im not like other girls' type and maybe annoying, (Yes I prefer storyboard), but I dont really know.. Im conflicted.
I absolutely love how banger this song is. A lot of people do too but they also hate it? I understand why but Im a bit sad because of that. In my opinion, I think it's quite fantastic. As a kid who was more isolated and forced to be more realistic (Or 'mature' ew) early, I kind of admire how she likes to express herself (Excluding the Final Output where she seems more.. eh?). The fact she looks so bright and just, purely random? Its quite cute to see. Sure, annoying, but she's a kid. It hurts to be told that she looks weird and random and bright in a bad way. I can understand those opinions and whatnot but I believe she's going through a phase. But everyone goes through that.
And another thing is that some of us who had difficulty expressing emotions due to ridicule actually admire how, again, she likes to express herself, despite some of her messages are quite bad. Because some of us weren't allowed to that or we're all too shy to. Yes, it's quite extra and maybe narcissistic that she thinks she's better than everyone else but yet she's also quite isolated from everyone else because she's different. I kind of relate a bit that she'd rather isolate herself and be herself than follow peer pressure traditions' rules.
What else Im saying is that, I think the fact shes so bright and random is the point of her character. And I actually do dislike the fact that there isnt a bigger character depth or development where she fixes her bad habits. But I just think that hating this song merely because she's acting like those emo-ish, 'im not like other girls' type, yet narcissistic kids because she's expressing herself. I understand that sounds bad but she's a child. It's kinda what they do.
They go through weird phases, act like they're SO different and cooler and better than others.
In conclusion, I dislike how she gets all offensive and is kinda 'edgy' but I dont think we should be THAT angry and disgusted at a child's antics, as much as we hate it. They're immature; if you hate it and you force a child to stop because it annoys you, then that's just forcing them to grow up and just be 'normal'.
But! That's just my opinion. People are free to have their own opinions as long as it doesn't harm others and you respect others' harmless opinions. But maybe Im just digging too deep into this, idk.
Praying that everyone falls asleep quickly and has a peaceful sleep. Hope you all wake up happy and well rested 🙏🙏🙏🙏
WOWWWWWWWWWWW GOOD JOB
i love vivo
"I'm not like other girls. I'm not even a girl, I'm a velociraptor!"
I love this movie
Storyboard is def better
Que legal esse desenho de cima da imagem real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the biggest problem with this song is now out of place it is with the rest of the movie. It feels so wrong to go from One Last Song to this. It's very well animated sure, but again, it doesn't fit with the rest of the movie. Also the whole recorder solo just sucks. This film has the guy from Hamilton in it.
God Damn it!
I really most like the stotybord alot bro good work❤✌
Despite the fact that a lot of people didn’t like this movie all that much, I loved it, but honestly, it would have been even better if they used the spiderverse animation style
Might just be me (probably isnt due to the other comments) but her face on the finnished animation looks so squished together. Its like if someone turned 10 y/o me's drawings into a 3d model
Is it a problem I prefer the storyboard drastically more than the final version
Wow
WOW! 👍 and thanks so crazy for me that really helps you nice and sweet
Storyboard looks like villain origin song
Wew very good remake :]
Let's be honest if this movie was 2d it would have been made so much better
Vivo had so much potential to be amazing and, I'll be honest, they really dropped the ball with things like this. Gabby was not necessary
this song makes me want to eat a shoo lace
I can't decide if i love or if i hate this song
The gabbie looks so much better in the storyboard like a better more lovable character
nice!
Her storybosrd design, imo. Is better cuz the hands arms legs and feet are more even porportioned to the others. And her face aint thst tiny
NICE ADAPTED 😌
Who did the storyboards here?
so so on the song but this sequence is so fun and wacky i’ll allow it! admittedly i would’ve loved this (and related to it) but even more as a kid so i can’t be too hard on it
