How to Connect FPV Video Transmitter to Camera

  • Learn how to connect a mini video transmitter to a mini camera. The small transmitter shown is ideal for an FPV racing quad, but can also be used for other rc needs such as planes and cars/trucks. The camera used is a common size that fits/mounts into most quad copter drones, and is referred to as an HS1177 camera. The video signal operates at 5.8 GHz with a power output of 200mW. There are other power output options, including 25mW and 600mW, with the higher output providing a longer range for reception. The FPV goggles shown, has a built-in receiver, but a stand-alone receiver can also be used for the set up of a ground station, operating at the same frequency and same channel, and connected to a video monitor.

Just FYI guys NEVER POWER UP THE TRANSMITTER WITHOUT THE ANTENNA. How you didnt burn that out was beyond me. I know, the hard way! Just dont ever plug your battery in unless the antenna is attached. Ever! Good video other wize. Very helpful. I am ordering two of those, but for planes.

You should ALWAYS fit the antenna before powering up any TX.

This was very helpful. So the little thing connected to the camera is like a mini tv antenna tower. And the goggles are like the tv. So multiple people can like "dongle" off the same signal. Which is why you shouldnt use the same channel as the other users.

Yes, that's a good analogy, and yes you'd want to be on separate channels unless someone wants to watch your video at the same time.

Hi I'm kind a new to the hobby, but I do know a bit about electronics, question, in the transmitter and receiver what about test the leads there, from what I understand there should be no connection with the ground lead and the signal RIGHT? then in my case is it possible that the transmitter came bad from factory? since I tested the continuity on them and they seem to have connect it them, due they have continuity and I just don't know for sure if that is how it suppose to be, could you please help me I have not found a right answer, Also tested the continuity on the antennas but as expected there should be no connection or should be? due there I bought another antenna and that one has so got me more confused.
In one of the transmitters there was a big ball of thin in the antenna so I deduced to remove and check, when removed the thin and check with the multimeter the continuity from the antenna signal to the ground and there was connection, to m understanding that should not be... or is that correct?
sorry its too much but I had the feeling the more I try to explain the more confuse I got whether there should be connection or not.
Thank you so much in advance for your time. Sincerely Luigui
