These are very modern compared to what I used as a kid. There was a long belt from the tractor to the sheller and pulleys. The corn had to be fed into the sheller with a shovel.
this is a real fancy set up compared to the pto John Deere sheller parked in front of are crib where all the corn was shoveled by hand into it. this brought back great memories of my youth. thanks for posting.
Ernie thanks for sharing. While at the Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, IA this year I saw corn shelling, wheat threshing, baling of wheat straw using horse power in addition to the use of Steam and Gasoline powered engines to do the same activities. I would suggest that you go to this show if you have not been or even if you have been in the past go again. I really enjoyed the two days I spent there although I had purchased a five day pass could not stay for all the days. A great show showcasing agricultural history.
Last time I shelled corn was probably 88 or so. Don't know if anybody around home even has a sheller anymore- was a good way to make money when I was young.
you shell it, to get just the kernels, to process them further...Picking gets it off the field. stacking in a crib lets it dry if drying is needed. shelling it starts getting it ready to be fed. does it need cracking for chickens, or grinding for other animals?

I too shelled corn as a kid. Loved to see the rare IHC 7288 at 0:17. Thanks, Ernest.
Thank you for showing how it was done years ago.
