I recently bought a set of Caley irons replacing my Callaway Apex CF16 irons. My honest opinion is that the Caley irons are outstanding and great value for money, my distances aren't much different but my dispersion was much better with the Caleys. My HC is 13.1 so hopefully with the new irons I can get down a little more.
Great video Dan, I ditched my P790s 6 months ago for a set of Takomo 201s, I love them, not giving anything up in performance at all! Also what I got for my second hand P790s paid for my new irons! As for the grips I got midsize lamkins for an extra 10 dollars for the whole set! I know this is not helping the local golf retailers but there’s just too much of a price difference not to go direct to these companies! Well made clubs KBS shafts and Lamkin grips?! 😊
Thanks Dan, nice review. I've been playing New Level irons for about 5 years. NL is in Arizona -- they have a nice online fitting program that asks a few questions about desired flight trajectory, how far you typically hit a 7-iron, distance of wrist to floor, etc. The program then provides you w/ a recommendation. I was able to discuss the recommendation with the owner -- and customized my shaft (KBS 105 stiff) and grips (Winn Dri-Tac Midsize). al for $600...pretty hard to beat.
Appreciate you doing this review Dan! Good to make people aware of the DTC brands. Lester does a great job with Sub70. This just shows that you can get great quality at a very good price, and also shows how much of your money for name brand goes towards the cost of marketing, paying for space in stores and pro shops, sponsorship of players, etc. Pretty wild!! Keep up the great work Dan and I think how succinct this video felt 👍🏻
Very good review. Honest, comprehensive and no vested interest in either, which is refreshing. Personally, I would never pay top dollar for a big name brand. Even my 5 year old Mizunos were on clearance sale, making way for the newer model. Buying quality irons online seems to be the way to go. Thanks.
I have gone the PXG 0211 iron route for my irons. They are top quality and the sound and feel is spot on what i want. Distance , spin, and descent angle are all what I need to shoot good scores.
Love how Caley and Kirkland tries to compare against the P790. If those manufacturers went up against PXG or Titleist you wouldn’t have put this video out! Now grow some and put these up against PXG! It’s all pretty similar regardless of manufacturer. Hey everyone buy Caley and don’t buy PXG there’s zero differences.
Dan, love the price point of the DTC irons. Just need a way to try them out without losing money. I’d probably get myself fit first for set of irons, get all of the details of what works best for me then go to a DTC that closely resembles that iron and order them based on the specs I get from the fitting. I wouldn’t get my woods from a DTC because I think more R&D goes into them than the DTCs can afford. Cheers.
I wish TM would ditch the speed pocket. It seems like it would mess up if I kept the clubs a long time. There's been a big difference in distance between the 7 and 8 irons and down with the players distance irons.
I was in the middle of writing these direct to consumer brands should provide a 7 iron to take to compare, when you pointed out that option. Returning it for a full refund shows belief in the product. Many years ago I remember Tiger shark doing an option to just try the 7 iron but I think you bought it outright no matter what. My dad tried it and never committed to buying a full set. I had it in my mix and match set for a while. Social media has opened up the market for everything and the big corporations probably need to sit up and take notice.
I bought a set from DTC last year, wanted to tweak the set and had trouble getting in touch (although now have managed). If the customer service isnt great can be very frustrating.
I’ve bought some direct to customer irons. They was fantastic. Until it was time to sell them. I’m still stuck with them. I’ve had 3 sets of P790 and they sell easily. Sometimes the resale value is important
I took the plunge with the Caley 01Ts. I am a high handicapper and they suit me fine. 4 and 5 iron are a bit blurred distance wise but that’s a me problem. Got the Caley hybrid set and the 4 hybrid is fab. Lofts are definitely “strong”. 4 iron is 20 degs up to Pitching wedge at 44. Needs a 48 or 50 gap wedge. All in all I’m more than happy.
CS is so difficult here in the UK - in the USA, buy it, don't like it, send it back no worries. This seems a good move by a small independent. Good luck to them, hope they do well. 👍
If you’ve been custom fitted before then yes go direct to consumer but if you haven’t then how do you know which spec is right for you on shaft, loft, lie, length etc. the Caleys look good though.
Low to mid handicappers will be custom fitted so the shaft you test might not be the one that plays best for you. The Calli, you won't have that of course. Order a set and you can try out the 7 iron and you don't like it send it back sounds like a novel idea, but it isn't custom fit. Calli price is the game changer on the face of it but what is the guarantee period. If it's the same as the TM then it is worth a look. Great review Dan
Great review Dan I think we can get a bit bamboozled by the bigger companies into buying there’s and as you say it can be harder to test clubs that are sold straight to the customer (which I think is good no middle man). But when they seem to perform as well or better and also the price difference I think you need to take them seriously. I have to say at that price I would certainly consider them. Especially when 2 years ago it cost me £2,500 for my full set of clubs, and I know that personally I can be a bit of a snob wanting all my clubs to be the 11:25 same make (probably my down fall) lol but the more I see them the more interested I become also they have more irons out now 😅
what annoys me the most being left handed is no one makes good clubs. Always feel left out :(. I cant see any option for left handed on caley site. ps: dont let terrance get his hands on them DH, they'll come back covered in lead tape and bent to all sorts of weird angles
I got myself a set of pxg 0211 xcor2 irons, similar to these. Took them out last weekend and played some great golf(for me). Im a high handicapper and shot 100( normally between 103-110). Id say a high handicap can use both if they want to work on strike(like myself).
takes a long time for me to switch irons, once I've bedded in a set I hang on to them for as long as possible....recently switched to the Wilson Staff CBs and purchased through my pro shop, unfortunately I had to make some educated guesses to fit myself because Wilson don't make demos available (and it took a few mods to finally get them right) - in saying that I was very close to pulling the trigger on a set of Haywood CBs because of how competitively priced they are, but once I'd factored in shipping and having them tweaked at my end the Wilsons ended up being a better deal...plus I've always wanted a set of Wilsons, so I've finally ticked that box.....I may still pick up a set of the Haywood CB heads down the track as I've got a set of shafts that I can drop into them, but that's for a day when spare cash is a thing, and at the moment that's impossible to predict
Hey Dan nice PXG hat my PXG 0311XP”s we’re about the same price as TM clubs ordered a gap,9,7 as a trial 30 days to return restock fee would have been about $47 US which I consider cheap for a 30 day demo I’m a senior love them got the recoil dart senior flex shafts zero upcharge when I ordered the P,8 and 6 to finish the set I wanted the 6 different from the other lofts and lies PXG service unparalleled in my opinion Cheers from NorCal
Great video, I recently saw that Ram have released a similar club retailing at around £300. As Tom Watson won the open with ram they must be worth a look.
Nice review dan. Those caley irons look good and the price is definitely a plus. I think its good if a brand can compete with the big names and offer much lower prices as at some point the big brands will have to react to it. Keep up the good work dan
Direct to consumer is not the risk it may have been 10 yrs ago, thanks to you lot. Watched you for some yrs now and trust what you have to say about feel and performance. Thanks, Dan.
In todays world Dan any saving is great. Major brands are so close to cutting out the new golfer and even me with my "shiny stuff syndrome" I am looking at how to slow the spending down
Only Number 4 and number 11 are the same....did he swing the same speed? The output is dead on and carry is shot to shot. The averages are too far apart. Looks like you loosened up by the time the P790s were up to bat.
All of you guys doing the same reviews of the same clubs because these DTC companies are handing them out like candy. Good on them I guess for doing their blast marketing because it seems to be working. It's a shame the one company that doesn't hand them out is better than them all.
The difference will be there in three years when you come to trade them in, one set will still hold a decent residual value and the others not, if you intend to keep them then that is great.
I suppose the thing with that is they’ll probably both halve in value - it’s just the TM will have lost £600 and the calley might lose £250. If you binned them you’d still be better off.
Sorry Dan. I'm getting bored with all club reviews on UA-cam and I'm unsubscribing from them all. Not yours though because you have too much other excellent content, but I think it's time the other UA-camrs got off the club review train and started thinking of something else. Keep thise matches going with Bernie, Joe the pro, etc, they're great 👍🏼

Proper discussion about golf clubs . Well done Dan ❤
I am still a buy in the golf shop person….I like the fitting process and supporting our club…
With irons, I only buy from DTC. Custom built and still much cheaper than big brand stock sets

I would add the Wilson Dynapower forged, brand but much cheaper, great quality and performance is fantastic

Great job, Dan. It’s good to see more affordable but high quality options being offered as alternatives to the big companies
Thanks Dan. Price is a massive consideration right now so these Caley and similar DTC brands must be considered.
If you know your game, your number etc... DC is not a problem. The only thing is the limit of shafts, they often only have KBS.
Great video. I play Sub 70 irons and absolutely love them. The customer service is 2nd to none.
Same here, absolutely outstanding customer service and great products (699 Pro irons & JB wedges)!
Dan, love the price point of the DTC irons. Just need a way to try them out without losing money. Caley and Takomo both give the big boys a run for the money at less than half the price. Can't go wrong in my opinion.
I would add the Wilson Dynapower forged, brand but much cheaper, great quality and performance is fantastic
@@Pud56 Wilson is criminally underrated. I switched from mizzys to the new dynapower forged and love them.
I bought these as I simply could not afford the dearer brands. I love them they are such good value for money . Very fair review Dan

A point to note is the P790’s will hold their secondhand value much better compared to the Caley so probably depends how often you change your clubs.
So many good DTC irons out there now thanks for the comparison Dan
Had my eyes on these for a few months & can’t wait to pull the trigger when my personal circumstances settle down…
Great review 👍🏽
CS is so difficult here in the UK - in the USA, buy it, don't like it, send it back no worries. This seems a good move by a small independent. Good luck to them, hope they do well. 👍
Bought both sub 70 and PXG direct lots of options to choose from
If you’ve been custom fitted before then yes go direct to consumer but if you haven’t then how do you know which spec is right for you on shaft, loft, lie, length etc. the Caleys look good though.
Get a fitting Neil, really important 👍
They look really nice, I'd definitely consider if they made left handed ones.
Id like a set of what Tom Watson used in 1973 when he shot 62 at Pinehurst... maybe just maybe its talent and not the latest shaft or head
Looks like it’ll be a set of custom Caleys for me then
Dan...you may have brought on a lawsuit to Caley to go along with the Costco one with TaylorMade.😆
Low to mid handicappers will be custom fitted so the shaft you test might not be the one that plays best for you. The Calli, you won't have that of course. Very good Dan. I recently purchased a set of Takoma irons, very similar to the Caleys and they are worth every penny!!
Had my Takomo irons 12 months and they are great, and a fraction of the price👍
I got myself a set of pxg 0211 xcor2 irons, similar to these. Took them out last weekend and played some great golf(for me). Im a high handicapper and shot 100( normally between 103-110). Id say a high handicap can use both if they want to work on strike(like myself).
Good review & I think when the time comes for me to consider a change, I will look at DTC on the potential cost savings alone

Good interesting stuff again DH
Good honest review Dan, enjoyed it.
Sub70 offer free custom fitting and you can speak to the person that built your clubs. For a set that's half the price of the TM's it's a no brainer!
Great review. Caley are nice clubs
Good review, would love to see them in the hands of a 15 handicap golfer and see the difference.
Perranporth 4th Hole... I holed in 1 2 years ago... 5 iron.. nice..
Can't argue with them prices 🤷♂️
Been looking forward to this
Great review. What about the Takomo 101 irons?
Hi Pieter, great to see you in the comments again, a trip to Holland this year?
Very interesting comparison Dan👍
A very good review. Each to their own, the only way to make sure any club is for you, is go try them out.
Great video, I recently saw that Ram have released a similar club retailing at around £300. As Tom Watson won the open with ram they must be worth a look.
I’d not be able to afford the Taylormade irons, happy to try the Caley’s at that price. Plus, I’m a hacker so consistency is not my forte
Another outstanding review video.
Just bought Caley 01T I’ll let you know. For the money, I bet it will be a Win
Very interested in Caley irons
I would want to test all the clubs before I buy
Fair enough 👍
@@DanHendriksenGolf That way when I duff it with a divot as fat as a hedgehog I know it's 'mostly' my fault ☺
Taylormade gotta pay the boys the big $$$$$, hence all their products will be overpriced. Cally, Takomo, etc, are already eating into their market.

Great video Dan 👍⛳️
Thanks Josh, hope your well mate
I think if you’re a standard lie or you know you specs you can see excellent results in clubs like Calley, Takomo and others.
Yup great irons but don’t hold their value in the secondhand market aswell as the p790s
I heard the long irons and harder to launch
Direct to consumer is not the risk it may have been 10 yrs ago, thanks to you lot. Watched you for some yrs now and trust what you have to say about feel and performance. Thanks, Dan.
Caley vs Takomo??
Bernie got it in one 😂🎉

7 irons 😝 more like 6 Irons 👍🏻
It just a carbon copy. Can you imagine trading in 790 as opposed to the caley. No one would take caley. I prefer to spend my money on the 790.

@@DanHendriksenGolf funny you should ask 😜.. the company is Maltby
Absolutely shite customer service though. I learned that with the last irons he brought out. Still got emails so can back it up
We clearly state that only the 7 iron can be used in our return policy. Thanks, Ryan.
@caleygolf check your responses one could say misleading at best.
Evening all
30 degree "7 iron" When is this nonsense going to stop? I mean, this is supposed to be a players club, not a some GI shovel
