My husband and I built our first dome in 1978 in California. Loved every minute of our time there. Have just moved to Kentucky to get away from the crazy politics and yes I will be building another dome. My husband has passed but my son is taking up the banner and we will each have our own dome and homestead. So efficient and strong, never had a problem with structure.
Looking Good! I will be building a few Natural Spaces Dome kits for clients this summer and it is always fun to see others doing it. Keep up the great work.
Good work. I could tell you weren't a pro builder before you said so when you said that was a messy job site. Haha. That's a clean job site. Again, nice work
How did you treat the wood surfaces tho protect them against rain?? Maybe GFK?? Like wooden boats? I am planning a new pattern of 480 Deltoid surfaces. I made the plans with fusion 360. And i am very interested in experiences from others who made similar domes.
Not all the same size. Different length struts & different triangles. That's the nature of a geodesic dome. The plan specifies exactly where each strut & triangle goes. See- naturalspacesdomes.com/
You can find pricing info at Natural Spaces Domes. Every project is different, and the dome kits are only the shell. Essentially double the price (at least) when fitting it out w foundation, well, septic, walls, doors, windows, kitchens, baths, elec, heating, roofing, etc... and my costs do not include much outside labor.
That's hard to answer. The triangles and riser panels came pre-cut. I'll need to look through the construction manual & plan to try to give a better answer. And... it really depends on the dome (dia., freq., extension openings, etc.). The garage is a mid-profile 3V @29' dia. Main dome is low-profile 4V @47' dia. Both have two extension openings. One sheet of the T&G 3/4" plywood makes at least one triangle... and cutoffs are probably used for all the various strut gussets. Since mine was a pre-cut kit I'm unsure how that played out.
Why? Why would you NOT use something translucent so you can grow food? What's the point of a Geo Dome if it's not being used to grow food? Looks stupid if you ask me.

Cool! We are very happy with our dome home. So unique.
Check out Trippy Acres on UA-cam... a new channel & dome self build in Tennessee.

To see it up close was amazing, this is a work of art! 🔥
Thank you!!
I was at Natural Spaces in North Branch in mid July of '18 around the time you filmed this.
Bro you're living my dream.
Thanks. Its been a good bit of work and we are almost done with the house build. (This video was from 2018).

Ha! Thanks... yeah, total noobs. I have a bad habit of using all horizontal space... I should make a New Years resolution... lol.

We put a roof on it.
Specifically Grace Ice & Water Shield and roofing shingles. Please check subsequent videos for more details.
Amazing
Huge dome!
did you make the plans and cut the materials? or is this a preordered kit? looks very cool
Pre-cut kit from Natural Spaces Domes. Like a big erector set!
@@AdirondackDomestead awesome, hooked on your videos now
That’s cool.
Hi, good Job. what connector did you use?
Thanks!
Natural Spaces Domes kit.
Hello, I would like to build a domo like that but I need the metal connection kit if you will be very happy to tell me where it is sold thank you
Check Natural Spaces Domes.
Are all the plywood triangles the same size? Some look smaller in the video.

But where the hell is the gun turret you promised!
Shhhhhhhhh! Ixnay on the Unturrentsa!
How much did it cost you?

Hi Dave. How many sheets of 4x8 ply did you use?
That's hard to answer. The triangles and riser panels came pre-cut. I'll need to look through the construction manual & plan to try to give a better answer. And... it really depends on the dome (dia., freq., extension openings, etc.).

Does this help?
@@AdirondackDomestead Thank you. I will use those dimensions to calculate surface area for 3V & 4V. Appreciate the quick reply.
A roof is installed from bottom to top also...shingles...
Yep, that was the process done by my roofer in 2020 (this video is from 2018). Please check some of the more recent videos to see how it came out.
Where did you order your kit from?

Can u add a link for the kit

I highly recommend visiting them, and doing their "Dome school" in Minn. if you're serious about their kits.
Savage !!
You should just be time lapse building from 3 or 4 go pros as you build
Yeah, thought about that. As I'm a total noob in creating videos I thought I'd just do vlogs with minimal editing.

Thank You your thoughtful comment.
I'm interested in your project. Not at all interested in closeups of your (or anyone else's) face. Please point the camera at what you're doing.
We will bring that up at our next video production meeting. Thank you.
Cover the plywood with solar panels.
