We recommend Novo for online banking for nonprofits. Here's a list of documentation you'll need: EIN (Employer Identification Number): Obtain this from the IRS. Formation Documents: Include your articles of incorporation and bylaws. By default, the IRS regards a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit as a private foundation. A private foundation can be directed by a sole individual. Private foundations are typically funded mostly by “insiders”, the person(s) who starts them or operates them. A private foundation can accept donations from “outsiders” but to the extent those outsiders are considered members of the public, the nonprofit will be required to have permission from the state to solicit funds from the public.
