I believe that the second troll is achieved through progressive powerups. When you don't have a powerup, a mushroom spawns off-screen and moves to the right, activating a switch of sorts. But when you already have a powerup that mushroom is turned into a static fire flower which can't activate the mechanism.
The sheer creativity of some of the most complex trolls in SMM absolutely astounds me. They think of things that I never would have even considered as triggers for insane, complex machinery that results in all new ways to kill you. It's an art form, really.

@12:30 I believe that "fake" CP is CP2, which is still flagged as collected because it is your most recent Checkpoint. However, with all the Switches and gizmos going off, different Cannons are present/missing giving you access to a different door out of the room. Switches have done a huge amount for the creative capacity of level makers in that you can make 2 (or even more) versions of the same room, using the actual same room. That said, there IS also a Checkpoint duping glitch I saw in a recent Juz video for MM2 which lets someone place at least a 3rd CP.
@17:40 I believe there is something with the Link costume where a spawned Mushroom will become a Master Sword if you are already Link. Swords don't move when spawned, but Mushrooms slide. As such, the Mushroom activates a mechanism which triggers the Wisdom vine. If you're Link, it won't be a Mushroom, thereby trapping you. Watching Ryu play troll levels is just delightful since he just goes for it rather than thinking hard about how he's going to die. Such a wild change from watching Juz and Carl.
Ryu, the second level was different when you were not link because of progressive power-ups. Imagine a bomb under a note block that drops a muncher. There is a progressive power-up a few tiles to the side of it. When you are link, the power-up is a fireflower or master sword, which does not move and stays in place, not activating the note block. Without a power-up on Mario, the progressive power-up is a mushroom, which moves over and activates the note block, activating the bomb. Hope this clears it up! ;)
The answer to the link level is surprisingly simple ;) Progressive powerups,so if your small it's a mushroom and it runs over a noteblock to activate whatever, if youre link it's a sword/fireflower and does not move to activate the block.
that first level was one of few troll levels that actually had great thought and planning put into it. i don't even have a switch but i'd play that stage.
Regarding your question in the first level about what the creator used to make it so convincingly look like a checkpoint: It was a check point. It was the second checkpoint. You don't collect it because that is the checkpoint you already have. The reason the door leads somewhere else is because it's a different door. The on/off blocks are in a different position the second time you enter the room, so the cannons are in different positions. They are now covering the first door you used and revealing the second. That's also what allowed you to actually CP1 yourself if you try to out smart the level by using the blue on/off block to go backwards. It wasn't there before, so that pipe was inaccessible
Oh that checkpoint troll is nice, and actually somewhat simple. To answer ryu's question: It looks like a checkpoint because it is a checkpoint. However, this time he didn't spawn from the left, but from above, which messes with the way the launchers spawn. If you look at CP2 with the red clown car, you can see there's 6 blocks between the checkpoint and the launchers, but when he reenters from above, there's only 3 blocks inbetween.
I love that link troll level and I’m so glad I got to see Ryu play it because just like he, I too was stunned at the true path. You must have the courage to just play as Mario, you must have the power to go alone, and you must have the wisdom to not be Link.
some1 probably already told you, but in the first lvl the 'fake checkpoint' is actually cp2... you can't collect it because it is already active. The room is changed by clever (different) launcher placements. (There is probably a check to determine wether you enter from above or below to decide which door you can access)

Thanks so much for playing Twoll-light Princess Ryu! Don’t feel bad - so many people lose the powerup, see different things happen, but don’t realize why that would matter until they get to the Wisdom Room. 😈 Also to answer your question, the whole level is done with progressive powerups. When you’re Link, the powerups evolve into fire flowers, which are stationary and don’t do anything. When you’re non-Link, they devolve into mushrooms, which move around to activate certain things I’ve set up in the level. 🤓 Happy new year, looking forward to another year/decade of watching Ryu videos! 😄🎉
The last level works because of mushroom detection contraptions, which take advantage of progressive power ups. Essentially, the game can know weather or not you have a power up.
If anyone's curious how the last level worked: progressive power-up. When you're Link, the mushrooms offstage are instead fire flowers, and do not trigger a lot of background stage elements as a result.
The last troll uses progressive power ups, if you are link they will all be fired lowers and won’t move, BUT If you are mario then they end up being mushrooms and probably move onto something like a noteblock to trigger the setups!
I heard from the creator of Twoll-light Princess on a comment on another video that he uses progressive powerups to achieve the effect. If player = Link, powerups = Flowers, and nothing is activated. If player = Mario, then powerups = Mushrooms that travel a little ways to activate all the stuff that enables clearing the level as small Mario.
I believe that the second troll is achieved through progressive powerups. When you don't have a powerup, a mushroom spawns off-screen and moves to the right, activating a switch of sorts. But when you already have a powerup that mushroom is turned into a static fire flower which can't activate the mechanism.

"Dude four way, coming in every direction man" - ryu 2019/2020
The creativity on these troll levels is top-notch.
I am so glad you played those levels. I've seen others play those levels & it's always hilarious! XD
Thanks so much for playing Twoll-light Princess Ryu! Don’t feel bad - so many people lose the powerup, see different things happen, but don’t realize why that would matter until they get to the Wisdom Room. 😈
Also to answer your question, the whole level is done with progressive powerups. When you’re Link, the powerups evolve into fire flowers, which are stationary and don’t do anything. When you’re non-Link, they devolve into mushrooms, which move around to activate certain things I’ve set up in the level. 🤓
Happy new year, looking forward to another year/decade of watching Ryu videos! 😄🎉
@8:30 you gotta respect respect the fact they put that ghost there instead of making you wait 430 seconds.. props to Bear wear
Every troll level does that
Ryu troll level on New Years Eve? Great way to start the year!
Aaaah, someone already beat me to it! Dang.
It was check point 2 but the on off blocks were in a different state so you had different Cannon positions. @12:25
both levels are mindfucks. duplicate rooms and having two versions of the level for mario/link!
It was the same level, progressive power ups made it different when you were link.
@@xian2themax I'm aware, I wasn't saying that was two levels entirely. That's why it was a mindfuck.
The last troll uses progressive power ups, if you are link they will all be fired lowers and won’t move, BUT If you are mario then they end up being mushrooms and probably move onto something like a noteblock to trigger the setups!
wow what some genius level designs!!! Absolutely blown away by the "Do not get Link!"
Love that Ryu is starting to enjoy troll levels more!
The opening scene looks like you are sitting at a barber shop, in only your undershirt, waiting for your beard to be trimmed.
