  • The Mamiya 645 (m645 1000S) has been my favourite film/analogue camera since I first got it. However, even though it has been my favourite film camera, it does have some negative points with it and in this video, I will be sharing those point as well as my overall thoughts on this camera based on how I've used it and hopefully you all can gain something from this video! :-)

That M.U. is for "Mirror Up"... aka Mirror Lockup mode for avoiding bounce when shooting long exposure or close-up shots. The few times where I had issues with the shutter... it's usually because of either the MU or the Multi has been flipped/half flipped or I didn't get a full wind on film winder. Hope that helps.

The viewfinder going dark is because your aperture is small. Switch the lens to "A", and if you need depth of field preview theres a little lever on the front.
That basically makes the lens stay open aperture and then close down for the shot

That’s NOT the shutter sticking my friend! That’s the mirror - and that M.U. Button is the mirror lock. So after you focus you click that button, it locks the mirror in up position, then you click the shutter (no shake or vibration because mirror isn’t opening and closing - only the shutter) then after you’re shot, you click the MU trigger again and you’re mirror comes back down into place and you can’t focus on next shot. So it’s actually working correctly.

It's possible that the foam cushioning which dampens the impact of the mirror has deteriorated and become sticky. If so, merely replace it. Kits are available

Hi we exactly have the same problem wherein the mirror doesn't stay up without film but with fim loaded, it occasionally sticks up, however, this doesn't affect the shutter since the shutter still operates normally, it's just the mirror that stays up. You can bring down the mirror by switching to mirror lockup and then switching it off again using the lever. Hope that helps :>

mine had the mirror sticking issue, it was a rubber panel lining the mirror box to the side of the mirror. the rubber panel had curled over on its edge and catching the mirror, i peeled the rubber lining off and the camera works perfectly fine.

Hi and thanks for the video. I think those lomography grey films are rebranded fomapan film. I'm sure you can find fomapan easily in Europe so if you haven't yet, give it a try!

My battery lasted years. I’ve just changed it for the first time, having got the idea to take some Argentic photos.
