Whoever tuned the piano was a lousy tuner. It went out by the 2nd movement. For a historical performance like this, they should have made sure the piano was in great shape.

I think it may have more to do with the age and quality of the recording. Even in the first movement some orchestra parts seem slightly out of tune.
