Lance Egan ties up his popular jig style Tailwater Sow Bug. It's a great option for a Euro nymphing rig.

i've been fishing the soft hackle version of this, beaded and without, all summer, and it's done pretty good as a "slow sink" alternative to your rainbow warrior when euro nymphing.
I use your tungsten surveyor this way in a smaller hook size on the Bighorn River in Montana
Great looking fly Lance 👌
Nice job man
I tie something similar called Dirty Politician by Kurt Finlayson for the Colorado River below Shadow Mountain Lake. It works quite well during high flow late May through late June. It'd be nice to see Lance tie that fly. I only have a picture to go by and my imagination... :-) The fly in this video is simpler and quicker to tie. I'll give it a try as well.
Dirty politician is an excellent fly. I've had lots of success this summer with this fly. CDC hackle. I've caught lots of Brook and brown trout.
@@donaldburleyson3099 I agree. Besides the CDC hackle I use a pink hot spot tail and collar. This works especially well in off-color water, which is what we have at the location I mentioned above in June.
@@schmoonkie I just recently found this fly at a fly shop in the N.C mountains. It looked good and fished even better. I've since tied up several variations and they all did well. It's one of my go to flies now! I do like the hotspot as you mentioned when the water is stained.
Out of curiosity if you put vein on the bottom they can't see it. Why not flip over on top. Thanks Lance
Jeff, tie a jig fly, tie tippet to it and drop it in the water. The rest will become self explanatory. You have it backwards.
Question!!!>>> It seems the way you tied this fly, it will run upside down. Does this matter?
You want it to ride hook up
Buuut, isn't the "back" actually the belly when you're using a jig hook??
No
No. If you want the fish to see the darker back it needs to be on the side demonstrated in the video. I doubt the fish care about the “back”, but Fisherman certainly do.
I agree. Weighted flies flip. A non-weighted fly is really effected by the knot but a 3mm will just make it go hook up. That is why they are a great point fly.
