    Exactly! water bags, I was also wondering why nobody uses them when you have to work on a location in a small team. ;)

    I'm filming a lot in desert (Dakar rally 7 years in a row) and my gear ir really simple: GH5 + Canon 24-105 + mic with deadcat + external viewfinder attached on my screen and always handheld. Surprisingly this works great for me.

    Thanks for taking the time to make these super informative videos Luc. I just got a FX9 and am new to the Doc film world. How do you carry a fully rigged FX9 around on a Run n Gun situation? As in do you have a backpack that fits the whole rig? If so which one is it? Q2: How and what do you pack the FX9 in, when going through airports? Thanks a ton.

      So the camera is broken down for air travel. I usually carry the camera in a cheap manfrotto backpack with my laptop and all the batteries, etc, then put all the lenses and monitor in an F-Stop ICU padded case. When I get to location the ICU goes into an f-stop Tilopa backpack (which I think is the best backpack out there for doc shooters) and I build the camera. Once the camera is built, it pretty much stays that way until the shoot is over, or until I need to get on another plane. In the field I operate mostly out of the Tilopa bag, but I also have the big F-stop Shinn and the smaller Guru packs - definitely my favourite bag company. Check them out! shop.fstopgear.com/?rfsn=6879535.324ad4
      Hope that helps!

    another great video mate! Simple but packed with real life/experience tips! Love it! Not many like you out there! Regarding sound... I believe you said you use the "tentacle" are those the 32 bit ones? if so... it would be great to make a video of how you use them! Have fun on your next shooting adventure mate! cheers!

    Great one as always man!
    Do you shoot your docs alonr in terms of sound, or do you go with a soundman? If you do go alone I would like to see a video about your process with sound!

    • @LucForsyth
      @LucForsyth  2 роки тому +2

      I always push for sound when I can, but when budget is tight I’ll run it myself. For one character I’ll use a wireless pack into camera, for more than one I switch to tentacle track E’s with a time code box. I’ll make a video on this soon!

    Regarding lights. I recently bought a Nanlite forza 150 to go together with the smaller forza60. They’re really small, well built and super easy to transport. Both works with v mount or connect to the power with quite small adaptors.

      I’m not in the union actually. I thought about going that route years ago, but docs don’t require it and big sets just aren’t for me. But - from my friends who work on narrative projects, I know it’s a lot to do with networking. Reaching out to a lot of DP/OP/1st AC until you make a connection and then hopefully following that team from project to project. Sorry I don’t have more for you on that!

    • @LucForsyth
      @LucForsyth  2 роки тому

      I would if you plan to work in super rough conditions. For a light drizzle the camera is fine, but I like to leave mine out in snowstorms and heavy rain

    Are using “Netflix approved” cameras essential?

    • @LucForsyth
      @LucForsyth  Рік тому

      For me, yes. But for making personal projects, I don't think so. Unless you really think it's the kind of thing Netflix might actually buy, I wouldn't worry too much about that. I never did!

    • @robmcd
      @robmcd Рік тому

      @@LucForsyth that’s great info and I absolutely agree. A video discussing why you got the FX9 over the FX6 would be great, and one discussing why Netflix has an approved cameras list and if these rules fall over to other streaming services like Amazon and Hulu would be really great content. You’re a bonafide influencer now, so even if videos exist on UA-cam about these topics, viewers want to hear you discuss the topics. It’s like going to a keynote to listen to Dr Hubbard or Dr Nick. They’re both doctors right?
