I own this exact pot and also the smaller 2 liter version. They are very rugged made and will last a life time, if taken properly care of. I use them as dedicated pots for cooking rice and polenta.

Hi. Thank you for sharing. Sharp edges appear as a result of prolonged dishwasher use - cleaner eats through the exposed aluminum.

I imagine that Iittala's lifetime guarantee would cover that, is that right? Probably worth contacting them.

Your pot is probably a ‘factory second’. Maybe that’s why you got what seemed to be a good deal. I have the 5 litre one and the edges are smooth and the aluminium core is not visible. Great pot, I love mine.

The Tools series was initially sold under the Hackman brand. Back then the previous owner branded the products under Arabia, Hackman and iittala. At one point everything got consolidated under the iittala brand.
The pans you have with the exposed aluminium was the older first design. This version doesn’t take the dishwasher well as the aluminium gets eaten away through time.
The current version is improved by the sealed stainless rim. I have one with a stainless sealed rim that is at least a decade old. So your pans must be older in age.
Older Tools pans have a date code etched on the bottom. The later versions don’t come with date codes.
I stopped buying their products when they moved production away from Finland. I also think it’s way overpriced compared to Demeyere. (More quality and made in Belgium for a lower price). Iittala could at least give us a made Finland product for the high price they charge.

Hello, what do I use a similar pan if this size for, for rice etc.
Not high but wide, makes it nice for placing it on the diner table.
