I don’t care what the Current climate of Hip Hop is, Corey Gunz should have a place in it. I know everyone wants these big money deals, but you can go your own route and drop albums, maybe on a lesser scale than a major label but still. Corey is/was dope and it’s a shame we haven’t gotten a full length album from him and if he has the same skills I don’t see why he still couldn’t blow up.
Corey's rap delivery and timing remind me of Papoose. I mean they both have skills and both underrated and understated.
Reality is cory is a good corny rapper he didnt have much appeal. On top of that his goofy azz dad watered down his brand by the way he represented his self.

I think Cory Gunz didn't succeed on a commercial level because he doesn't have a commercial sound. His punchlines go above a lot of people's heads and his flow is hard to rap along to. Commercial audiences prefer catchy flows and simple bars they can understand & repeat easily.

I believe on the A Milli song, that Cory Gunz out-rapped Lil Wayne in my opinion. Of course, had he signed to the label at that time things might have been different, but I doubt it. Being that Cory is like myself, being an introvert you want to work but at your own pace. What were the terms and conditions of the contract is the question. Looking forward to hearing more from Cory Gunz in the future. Great video commentary.

No one has ever accused Gunz of not being a Lyricist but he was too quiet for his own good. If he’s gonna be an introvert, he needs a mouth piece to represent him. He’s definitely got more bars than a lot of these sound alike copy cats played on the radio these days.
I dunno - always felt like Cory Gunz’s rappity rap style doesn’t make for good songs overrall. Also the style has this outdated Eminem-esque thing about it that doesn’t float in 2021.

His style doesn’t fit today’s commercial rap scene. I guess u can say that he’s “too lyrical”, and just hasn’t figured out how to make it work for him. U have guys like J. Cole, Kendrick, Joyner, and Logic that are lyrical, but have commercial success. They make songs that still have commercial appeal. Cory just spits. He’s a spitter that hasn’t learned to make songs for the masses.
Cory is one of those elite emcees that needed an in-house producer to help cultivate his sound and also give him feedback on how to built a classic. If he had one classic under his belt he'd be a lot further ahead.

it's not, he's an incredible lyricist and one of the things he might have picked up from YM is how to put a record together, which as much as some of their music is trash, that's defs a strength for someone as skilled as Cory is. My other friend Aasim was signed to Bad Boy for almost 10 years with no official single release and that's only because he didn't have the image or the records. It's not Bad Boy's fault.
