Incredible history. Nothing has made me wish Martin would finish the books more than this. A much darker, more ancient story is told here.
Damn, I thought the White Walker origin in the show was already pretty deep, I can now say they tore off a huge chunk of lore and potential from the original.....
Who's here after season 8 episode 3 😋
Yes!.
Me
well...
im here
I'm only here because game of thrones won't explain it properly themselves
This guy talks faster than Busta Rhymes. That said, great content👍

A mysterious ultimate villain wrapped in dark history, meanwhile the D&D show: "LOL he's just the first white walker, a 1 shot kill, nowhere near as strong as Cersei and Theon's uncle."
omg.. dude,, take a breath,, lol .. loved this though thank you

RNS Entertainment LOL
Always impressed in how much information you throw out in such a limited amount of time! Thank you!
That was an interesting video. Its a good suggestion of the reason why Ned and Cat, always said, 'There must always be a Stark in Winterfell'. That meaning to protect the world of men.
Exactly!
Thank you for narrating both sides + the History to your best ability. you're too fast for me. I advise to stop rushing and take your time.

Me: But why??? >.
because the children of the forrest created him to destroy humans
@@helplesssoul6581 Seriously, the show literally said this in season 6...
@@helplesssoul6581 bullshit little story. Lazy writing. Did not explain anything.
wishfordaddydrake Tf did you watch the show? They made the night king so that he would wipe the first men out because they were killing them and and cutting down their sacred trees
Imagine sersei becomes the Night Queen .. This will be horrifying.
Dany
She became mad queen alright lol
I'm saving this video under my favorites.
Dude, that's great just jesus, slow it down!

Welp he's dead now thanks to Arya! Such an anticlimactic way to kill him, he deserved better than this, we needed to know more of his intentions and his story should of continued to the very end!!
I think it was clear from the last 2 episodes. If he killed / wiped the memory he wouldent be the bad guy. He would forever be the king of everything.
Agreed. So underwhelming. I'm worried for the last 3 episodes now..
This arc was dull, Night's King purpose from the start was to wipe out all humanity.
I'd love this story to have more substantial lore but this could only ever be provided by George Martin.
Maybe it's for the best that complex story telling was left to him.
It’s a tv show you want more read the damn books...... the Harry Potter movies wasn’t nearly as good as the books because they were short films
Shainah Moore thank you!!! So tired of all the hate
David and Dan had a sit down with GRRM to discuss plots points. they know the general idea of where the story ends but the Show version and the book version are completely different. the show only has 10 hours a season to work with so obviously they have to cut, combine and rework things. Also, this is for television, so its a more simplified version of the book. You can't expect them to make such an indepth perspective on the history of the book. It just cant be done. I think the way they handled it in the show was decent and believable enough
Literally everything in your comment is in the video lol. Except I disagree that it's a good adaptation. It's not about whether or not it's the same, it's about whether or not it's GOOD, and as for Season 6 (and to a degree Season 5), it's just not a good show anymore. The quality of previous seasons has entirely disappeared.
RNS Entertainment i know that. i was helping other people who commented by sort of summarizing lol. also, on whether its good or not is obviously subjective.
+RNS Entertainment Season 6 especially ep. 9 and 10 were amazing.
+Kevin Triforce I think at least it was better I the season 5 in my opinion.
I definitely agree with what you said I just think that HBO should have made each season starting with season 2 12 episodes long so they can fit more material into the show
I really Like this theory. The children of the forest created them to punish the humans for destroying their things. They would take someone important to the humans, I don't think they'd just take anyone to be the first white walker. I think it'd be someone important like Bran the Builder or a noble.
That's not what this video states. There's nothing in the books to lead anyone to think that the Children created the White Walkers, or that the "Night King" from the show is anything but a stereotypical "big bad" that the show invented of their own accord. The Night's King in the books has an entirely different story and timeline, and the Children had nothing to do with him becoming what he was. The show is stupid, and just made some shit up with no regard for the books or Martin's story.
+RNS Entertainment you pretty much said that the shows version did this, that he book and show are different. I got out of this that the SHOW had the children create the white walkers to fight the humans. The the SHOWS first white walker to me would need to be someone noble.
+Marissatwd 21 *that to me the shows
I also said that they changed the entire timeline of when the "Night King"/White Walkers were created by hundreds of years, putting it well before Bran the Builder was even born.
+RNS Entertainment alright. I don't want to argue about this. I thought the theory was good but i guess what I heard from the video I misinterpreted.
So Bran is a reincarnation of himself trying to battle himself ? I am so confused
I agree because that’s in theory that would be a long shot think about “Brandon stark fell in love with the corpse queen and in the end he turned into the night king and thousands of years later he defeated by Brandon stark” it’s very confusing

The children didn't "raise" a tidal wave to break the arm of dorm and make it the broken arm, it was assumed to be the 'greenseers' (spelling?), but even then this is looked at as a natural event that the greenseers were just given credit for.
Source: The World of Ice & Fire book, 2014.
+ShouldBeStudying Incorrect. The greenseers WERE Children, and they used their magic to raise the hammer of the waters (which is a tidal wave). World of Ice & Fire does not contradict this, and in fact is written from a specific character's POV as he gives HIS take on their history. The character is written as being wrong several times in his own conjecture.
Hmm interesting. I know greenseers ARE children, rather "wisemen of the children" but are they not different all together? The greenseers could see "visions", which we seems to justify as time traveling. The children couldn't do this. Children also could not control the beasts around them, like an individual with the title of "greenseer" could. I guess, I'm looking at it from a perspective of white walkers/others vs night's king/queen. Yeah they are essentially cut from the same cloth - but they are different in abilities.
If the greenseers really had that much power to raise a tidal wave, why not use it ON the men themselves? Yeah okay, they took out the piece of land that the first men used to migrate to the land but since the greenseers can see visions of the past and future could they not see an instance where man figures out how to travel across water?
I guess I must've missed it but which book says for certain that the greenseers conjured this up and it wasn't just a natural act?
+ShouldBeStudying No, the greenseers were just the specific Children who had greensight abilities, just like Bran and others are just humans with greensight. They can't "time travel" at all, they can only see events in the past/future and only slightly have their presence be felt, with things like rustling in weirwood leaves or a "presence" felt by the observed. Followers of the Old Gods often misinterpret this as their gods watching over them, when in reality it is just a greenseer.
Also, all of the Children had magic to some extent, and most COULD warg into and control animals. This is not a greenseer ability, and is very common among the Children.
Raising the tidal wave took all of their combined power to accomplish, and was extremely difficult for them, which is why they focused it on what they viewed as tactical points: breaking the Arm of Dorne, and then attempting to do the same at the Neck. They succeeded in their first attempt but only managed to slightly flood the Neck. They essentially had to combine all of their most powerful magic to accomplish this even once, and failed in their second attempt. The First Men were far too numerous and entrenched in much of Westeros for them to just "wipe out" with a wave. It's not that easy.
Also regarding the Children of the Forest, Leaf is seen creating the first White Walker thousands of years ago, but in the books it says "Leaf has seen 200 years".
wasn't it 300? i thought she was born when Aegon started his conquest
thats probably just a delibrate decision to feel some relation to the character shown.. instead of a random unknown character of the children of the forest
Today the Night King died. Now he can RIP.
Night King rest in....Pieces🤣
RIP in peace

i love watching old videos and seeing how they line up with current story lines
the show is still awesome dude.
Perhaps in the show's account, he is banished North and eventually captured by a group of the children who happen to hate men.
But that wouldn't explain the summer weather.
Going forward please slow down. This isn’t a Micro-Machine’s commercial. Please, seriously. Now I have to go back and watch this again and try to catch some of what I missed.
I hope they give him an entire episode of backstory.
when night king raises the dead is it not just mass warging?
Tony Garcia That's what I theorize, the magic is similar.
It's more mass Puppeteering
Did you know that Bran in Welsh means Raven, so its quite apt that the 3 eyed raven has that name. Other names in GOT that have their origin in Wales are Tyrion, Euron and Tywin. There are others I cant quite remember at the moment.
The 3-Eyed Raven's name is Brynden. It does work for Bran, who is training with him though.
The show calls him 3eyed raven. In the books is 3eyed crow
its true, and Jon Snow means 'long sheep' in Welsh
Brandon is named for Bran the builder who founded house Stark. Every generation of Starks has a Brandon. Ned’s older brother was named Brandon
I want to see Night Queen in the show! And she must be more beautiful then scary.

Is there a night Queen?
Maybe if HBO do a prequel of the NK..!!!
What I dont understand is why start the show with the WW and not end with them? Would have been better.
My Theory: Why the Stark kids are important (Brann) The Night King was a First Man. The Starks are descendant from the First Men...
The Night King IS a Stark
I think it’s Brandon the builder brother and the night queen is buried in the starks crypt under winterfell
Oh god why doesn't George just help out D&D.
I think he just had enough of the dimness and sexist stupid ways. I am surprise he tolerated for so many seasons butchering his story. terrible writers
+kumarlexx i have no clue what your first sentence is trying to say...
from my knowledge.. thats exactly what he did though
why contribute to a train wreck
george is not able to help cause george is not george. perhaps someone is using his face. it could be arya trying to rewrite the legacy of the starks. perhaps we are entering the long night once again and the story will never finish. whatever the case its obvious that season 7 is not the same as the previous seasons. and we all know season 8 will be so cliche. its hard to match what they have already entertained us with. lets just hope that the war between ice and fire or living and the dead will be of epic proportions. either way im excited to see what will happen during this long night. someone important will need to be sacrificed cause like george said, death must be paid for life. perhaps not just jon but jon and dany together will be the new rulers of the wights, we will see cause the winter has come again. sansa, arya and bran already knows cause their family have been preparing for this moment all their lives, perhaps they will rule the living and make a pact with jon and dany. soo excited, cant wait a whole year, that is truly another long winter!
I don't think the show runners know how the Whitewalkers came about. I don't think George Martin has told them yet.
Since Bran is the three eyed raven it is theoretically possible that he has guided or actually assumed control of Bran the builder as well as other Bran Starks throughout the timeline, battling the white walkers for thousands of years.
Time travel without traveling through time.
GRRM: Suddenly the twist you’re building towards is out there, Because you’ve been planning for a certain ending and if you suddenly change direction just because somebody figured it out, or because they don’t like it, then it screws up the whole structure.” You hear that D&D. I wholeheartedly believe they knew the fans figured out the ending & they said, “ha! We’ll trick them all.”
Could it be possible, that Nissa Nissa is the Night's Queen, becoming such when who ever the warrior was who is referred to by Azor Ahai put the swqord that would be known as Lightbringer through her. This would leave her not dead but soulless as it were. So could it be possible that indeed a Stark such as Brandon the Breaker was the original warrior known as Azor Ahai. It appears that he knew how he was supposed to forge the sword being that it is said that he knew with a heavy heart the sacrifice he had to make to forge the sword into a flaming sword or sword with a soul that could actually defeat what was soulless, namely the Others.... Once the Others were defeated, a new enemy is now born The White walkers, coming into existence by the Night's Queen aka Nissa Nissa, and the Night's King is actually the very one who defeated the Other's, Brandon Stark or Brandon the Breaker. Feeling remorse and sorrow thinking he killed his wife, but later to find she actually was still somewhat alive, abandoned everything to be with her still, but inadvertently caused another menace to rise.... Thus setting off a chain of events that now leads to the current state of affairs...
you sir, have earnt a subscriber today 😊
i think bran stark is bran the builder and many other legendary brans, i think this because after s6 we already see how bran becoming the 3 eyed raven he can alter the past even phisicly
The Three-Eyed Raven is a TITLE, Bran did not physically become Bloodraven.........................You literally have no idea what you're talking about.
This content ads so much enjoyment to the already fun game of thrones series! Thanks so much
Here after watching S08E03
The episode had an epic battle, but no words can describe how disappointed I am with what they did with the WW and the Night King.
What a waste of a great character development and an awesome mystery
I certainly agree with you on how the writers of hbo’s show are fucking up the timeline without source material, I am confident in season 8 and that it will clear up any inconsistencies or confusion we have.
I've read any of the books but got is my life at the moment I love it and on the way to finding it the third time now and every time I watch it pick up on something I previously missed. Great video
Ok, first of all, I can't think of one instance where a movie or TV show based on a book was actually better than the book. There is simply no way to be as thorough on film as in writing because there is no way to explain what people's thoughts in books are, which is huge for character development. Secondly, the Series of books is over 4500 pages and counting. There is no way that a series could run that long with the success GOT has had because there simply not enough money to pay the actors, let alone for all the CHI effects that are needed at this point in the story, where we see magical creatures and huge battles more frequently. Lastly, I definitely recommend reading the books but, if you haven't yet, I would finish watching the TV show first. To not do so will, in fact, lead to much confusion. As a stand alone series, for people who haven't read the books, it is a pretty awesome TV experience. Ok, I've run out of room. Lol. Peace, all!
So they don't have time to show relevant events/characters from the books, but they do have time to show Arya repetitively doing the same goofy kung-fu stick training and seeing the same terrible play over and over for an entire season? Most of this season was pointless drawing out of simple and obvious plots. Literally no one thinks that the show should be the same as the books. The problem is that as of this season, and last season as well to a degree, the show is making terrible decisions with what they're choosing to do and where they're choosing to take it. Couple that with the shortened last two seasons and delaying tactics, it's obvious they have nothing left without Martin's work to supplement them. The problem is not money, they have plenty, and budget doesn't determine creative decisions to that degree. The problem is not time, they're shortening the seasons and wasting time on filler while ignoring actual source material they could be drawing inspiration from instead.
The tv series was a great adaptation through the first four seasons, and in Season 4 they made plenty of great changes from the books. The past two seasons have steadily dropped off in quality, though, and the fanfiction-level writing this season sealed the deal of it being beyond repair.
It’s my understanding that the First Men and Children of The Forest had a peace but later, when the Andals came over with the Light of The Seven, then chopping down Weirwood trees and re-starting the fight. Hence why they created the White Walkers, mainly against the Andals.
This next bit is my opinion.
The Night/s King used to live in The Broken Tower at Winterfell and was a Stark bastard but he went to become the 13th Lord Commander where he met a Targaryen (Nights Queen but referred to as a White Walker by most) The Lord of Winterfell attempted to kill and erase all record of him and what he is. Jon Snow is a Warg and is the only one who is capable of matching his powers if turned into a WW.......here’s your bitter sweet ending. Dany has to kill Jon to make him a WW and become Azor Ahai, but Jon goes and defeats the NK but takes his place in the lands of always winter, creating Peace.....but will return to save house Stark if needed (hence why there must always be a Stark in Winterfell - otherwise his sacrifice will have been for nothing).
Just my opinion...please dig holes in the theory.
That is a bomb theory and has changed my thinking that Bran and the Night King may be one in the same.
This would have been so much better..
Bang goes the ‘Jon is the only one capable of matching his powers’ but I’m still certain I have the NK’s story right.
thank you for posting I found it very informative and I do to believe that the Starks have a tie in this there is a lot of confusing information out there with this issue thank you for shedding some light
I will have to slow video down casue i can't keep up but this has so far been really interesting. Good job.
The night king looks like Aerys II and the others are the other Targaryens that died during House of Dragons. The White Walkers on horses all resemble the Targaryens
S8 basically turned thrones into a story of the Bran Starks.
i love how the white walkers are affiliated with the number 13.
12 tribes of Israel...could there be a 13? 12-> 2^2 x 3
Game of thrones is FULL of occultic themes, symbols, gemteria, etc
Theory: They need a Stark of Winterfell, because the Children
had caught a Stark member in experiment magic to fight against the First Men
about 12 thousand years. The Children used too much dragonglass and went out control
as establish the White King. Over the thousand years, the White King (a rogue Stark)
had evolved in magic and established the other White Walkers and wights. The Children
to help Bran Building to build the Wall and Winterfell to have a weirwood trees to communication
with the Old Gods of the Forest (Children) with support Three-eyed Raven to save
the history. The Children and House Stark have a pact to stop magic the White
King and his dead army in getting south the Wall.
A poor man's Witch King of Angmar.
Decent production value.
The show is great, I'm sue the books are a masterpiece. To bad they can't do them justice.
The Truth Hurts v jn
So Joh is not going to call him grandpa anytime soon huh. lol Might be why the staring completion as the king felt the connection!
Gendry will be the one sitting on the Iron Throne..7
it is really sad, how much HBO has change and gone off the books.
this comment aged well
isnt it possible that the children made the walkers and then locked them away before they could do any damage, the long night somehow leading to their release
Oi
Sansa - nights queen?
Thanks for the breakdown and some truly constructive criticism. Now if I could find some like objectivity in critiquing the new JJ era Star Wars material I'd be a happy camper. But that's heresy in those circles.
I haven't read any of the books, and don't plan on it until the show is finished. I could hear your frustration at the show being so different from them. I hate that feeling lol.
I can’t wait for the prequel
Astute observation about the digestive Hollywood explanation.
What if the children used the White Walkers as some some sort of WMD to deter the first men from war and as a way to force them into peace? I feel like that would make both the boom and show's explanation for the origin of white walkers make sense, as the children could have just lost control of them after a while. Great video though!
dude!! The Night's King and The Night King are two different characters. The Night's King (13th lord commander of the Night's watch) exists in the books but Night King (the leader of the Wight walkers) only exists in the TV show.
This video literally explains that and how HBO initially listed the character on their official website as the Night's King before realizing that they made a huge mistake spoiling his existence in the books, hence the name change to the Night King to make them different. You are a moron who didn't even listen to the video.
I actually had an idea of how they could reveal the night kings name may be Sam will find some action books in Castle black about the white walkers one of them being A book that reveals the white walkers leaders name the night king the great other if you ask me why I mention the great other I personally think either the night king and the great other are the same being or separate beings
Brandon the breaker, Bran the broken?
Read the books guys. As far as the series is concerned, it'll end how Lost ended!
The White Walkers are just a deadly force of nature. Like a fire or flood. They have no emotion, no malice, no desire. They just do what they do.
Why are they coming now? Three reasons: a long winter is coming, there are (were) no Starks in Winterfell, and they smell death (from the War of the Five Kings).
Thanks for making this video. I love learning the lore/history of the show, but am too lazy to read...
What if leaf is 12k years old and created the night king when man first started affecting the children of the forest and the wiki just has it wrong?
Makes since. Leaf could've refused the pact and been all war crazy. Not uncommon at all, she would just still had to have hatred for the first men at the end of the age of Hero's which isn't odd when you look at her age.
thanks for the clear up
Give my man the Noble Prize
Someone please tell me why Arya didn't turn when the Night king caught her by the neck?? When he touches things like the baby or the dragon, they turned. So why not Arya?
She's holding Valerian steel?
I feel sorry that the show took such a intriguing character as the Nights' King, and turned him into a caricature at the end. He didn't deserve that death. Not so easily and definitely not by Arya. I guess I expected too much from a show that, despite its brilliance up to S04. declined rapidly once it went beyond the books.
If you look at the picture of the current bran stark next to the picture of the night's king, you can see that they have almost the exact same facial structure. they look closely related.
Yup. Take a closer look at their noses. I could swear that Isaac Hempstead Wright plays both of them
+Daniel Escasa I don't think it's the same actor, but the two actors might be related.
James Wireman You're right, they're not, checked the cast. However, you've got to wonder if HBO chose the Night's King for his nose - or a maybe that was part of the prosthetics
Since the actor who plays Bran Stark on the show is a teen and growing, the Show keeps changing the actor who plays the Night King. So that the facial features of the Bran and Night King are similar.
That’s because the Night King IS Bran. Yep. He was warned not to worg too long or he’ll get stuck and that’s what happened. He worged far too long through the Night Kings eyes and became stuck as him. Which is also why it’s not a coincidence that “the first ppl were Stark’s” AND why it’s not a coincidence that there are earlier Starks with the first name Bran.
When Arthur Dayne dies I'm sure his sister brought him back to life but brand did not hang around long enough to see that part? Maybe?
I'm of the opinion that, in the television adaptation, the Children of the Forest created the White Walkers toward the end of their war against the First Men. We can't assume that the Children are, or were, any more unified than Men. Perhaps the White Walkers were created by one faction while another, larger faction, sought a diplomatic end to the war devastating the continent. If so, the first White Walker might have been quietly banished to lands far north of any holdings of Children or Men when the pact was struck. I believe the first White Walker seeks to continue the purpose forced upon him by the Children; to scour the Race of Men from Westeros.
I’m still confused, the wall came first, then the white walkers? Why would bran build his own prison
RIP Night King
I still think it could be both. The Men were demolishing the Children of the Forest in the war, so why would they want peace, unless they created the White walkers as a show of force, maybe even had them attack a few times (like how America used the Atomic bomb in WW2). Afterwards they sent the walkers to the middle of no where while there was peace, but four thousand years later something bad happened which created the long night.
As for the Night /'s king, just because they have the night king here, doesn't mean they won't have the Night's King come back later. Also, and this is completely imo, but what if the lady the Night's king fell in love with was the Night King's daughter? Food for thought
You assume that him being called "The Night's King" is revealing his identity and not just a type-o. Occam's Razor, dude. It was a mistake
Leaf in game of thrones is probably 12 thousands years old.
Anyone here , after seeing last episode of Got
Knight King is Beal the Bards bastard son. Brandon Stark’s grandson. You know Brandon the breaker.
I think he kept it vague because he is planning at least two big battles in TWOW.
In the show Ned stark and the night king both "feel" Bran's presence in the visions, so the show night king might also be stark.
but so does hodor
There is one nagging question i have with this theory.. If Brandon the Builder is the Night King, who both built the Wall and lived on the Wall, from where comes the magic that stops him/white walkers from crossing the Wall at the moment? The only logical choice seems to be that it was added later, after he was banished from the wall.. which raises the question what was the purpose of the wall in the first place? Or is he inherently different than other white walkers?
Why it gotta end man tf
I think jon snow gonna defeat the night king
with the sword in the darkness
jamie
hail arya, slayer of the undead!
Have y'all heard of the theory that the children of the forest created the night walkers to fight the first men but when the pact was made the night walkers were sent to the Land of Always Winter. And the Long Night was the White Walkers revenge for it.
Is everyone really that's slow? This is at normal pace people, calm down.
I remember some of this information from the books, but some of it is new to me. Do i have to read A World of Ice and Fire to get the whole story? Haven't gotten around to that one yet.
Love it!
Good stuff!!

not a problem I read it somewhere, but whether it's fact or not, I can't say for certain. I've read and watched so much about asoiaf it can get fuzzy between fact and theory. gained a subscriber thanks again
I liked your video. I have found, when viewing adaptations, nothing is ever exact. Some things cannot be done on film like they are in prose. Other things, seem to always need to have a Hollywood sheen added for mass consumption. I have found the GOT television show to be wholly entertaining fare, and the books to be their own entity.
The show never needed a "Hollywood sheen" before, and it's only there now because D&D are hacks who can't do any better. They realized they aren't actually good enough to handle this story and resorted to every cheap, lowest common denominator garbage to try and desperately appease casual, stupid audiences.
NO ONE expects an adaptation to be EXACTLY like the books. No one. Saying "They're different entities!" does not excuse the adapted entity of being shit, sorry, that's a terrible argument. The show was never exactly like the books (except maybe Season 1, which was close as hell), but always had a level of quality that is sorely missing in Season 6.
Yep, and them only doing 13 episodes more (rumor) just sucks, they cant wrap it up that quickly
it's not "dragging it out" -- it takes time, money, and a TON of efforts to make this shit, man.
it's the grand finale -- the cgi ALONE is going to be insane. you honestly have no idea what you're talking about.
AlexanderThe Great
because you're completely disregarding the facts, let alone common sense
and whoa wtf? ...where there hell did I say "WRONG WRONG NO WRONG MORON"?? are you on fucking bath salts?
I think the children of the forest made the white walkers during the war with the Andels who worshipped the 7 Gods, not the war with the first men.
