First there was ,"Ice road trucker's", then Haley logging shows you, "How to make an Ice road" great vid, glad it all worked out, and if you need to do it again, can I suggest you find a piece of thin walled pipe that fits snugly in the layflat hose, weld 2 handles on it, and flare the output to a rectangular (letterbox English types) so the water comes out in a fan pattern. keep the laughs coming.
If only the highways department could build a road as quick - I particularly like how you incorporate so much grass to make it like a winter glass fibre for extra strength. A lot of people wouldn't think of that. Thanks for posting.
Cripe,it's already pretty cold where you are! Here in Maine we won't be dealing with that until Monday. But first we'll be getting a bit of a snowstorm for Saturday night into Sunday night. They're calling for 18-24 inches all together, but than can change! Anyway, stay safe and stay warm.
I'm taking credit for giving the "Thanks for watching guy" his new title. I was wondering about ice damming the crick but not no more. Next time you need a real hose handler, gimme a call...of course I'm a city worker so I'll need to bring a few supervisors!
Hi Dave!!😀😀 That really worked slick. Glad you didn't end up like grandpa did!! Hopefully now it stays cold while you are cutting the job. Take care and stay warm!!😀😀 Your friend Al.
Super cool the DNR was willing to experiment with you on building an ice crossing so not to stop the natural flow of water but still be able to continue logging and trucking probably better than wating till summer and putting in a temp brige no disturbance to nature now try to tell me loggers are not the true conservationest on this earth stay safe get logs
David, you got a good dozer man there.Better get him a life jacket just in case 🤪 You and I think alike, I would have tried the 5 gallon pail trick, good choice in using a pump. Lot easier and ya can have a little fun in the process. Stay safe and thanks for the video
I can see it know ice road truckers of northern Minnesota maybe you could get the lisa the iceroad trucker to help lol. We finally getting hit by a winter storm calling for 6 to 10 inches here in my area should of went up north. Keep up the great videos
I could see the cold in the video, lol. Nice work getting that all done in a day, I’ve never had to use a pump like that before, usually you want to get water out of the road but that looked like it worked slick as shit:)
The ice bridge is a great way to go as long as its cold enough. A 350 size machine also works good to blade off the grass and brush a couple of days before the main bridge building takes place. its amazing the ice roads a guy can build.
Looking good Dave i will call ice capades pulp trucks on ice lol good luck they'll catch up quicker on the piles guess youll have to work 10 days a week to stay ahead
Next we know we'll be watching all of you on Icecapades or some skating babes or a sculpting show in a big city thing. Check with your local fire department and see if they have any old hose and nozzles they might part with for a donation. That'd work better and get you some reach too for that semi-trashy pump. I'm surprised someone didn't start logging and blow that drone out of the sky trying to detach some missle toe! And give that REALLY nice wife a present of airing out all the coveralls and such before yall go inside. There ought to be a pilot light vent on those things to keep you from joining the cow that blew over the moon. And if your truck runs away going home you'll know why. 'Natural' gas better than a propane booster!
Have you done any more flooding? We always kept flooding every sub zero night to keep up with what the river took off the bottom. And wider is better, don't need your bridge rolling under the load.
I like the ingenuity. But what’s the process at the end of the day to keep the dozer tracks from freezing up for the rest of the winter? That does look like a nice little machine.
David you should have let that pump run overnight with the hose propped up you could have made an ice sculpture with the timbco too late now off to the next task
People in my home city did that every winter with a garden hose on a pole like 40 ft ish. Very cool slow flow and it built up with a wierd but cool look. Also remember when i was a kid we went to canada and road a snow train tour through mountains? water was running out of the cliffs next to the tracks and freezing nicely
If you leave a berm on either side of your road you can come back and fill it with water after it sets up. This will allow you to increase the thickness of your road exponentially.
Dozer in middle of creek, "yeah we never done this before" hahaha! Comrade in dozer musta got his kahonies on loggerwade.com. Hope he used the promo code BIGDEAL for 18 percents off! Thanks for the watch comrade DRINK MORE VODKAS!!
You should throw 4 posts in the ground on all 4 corners of that bridge just to be sure your actually driving on it. (For example: next time it snows) 🙃
Lol must be a county job my old man works for the state and after a few years of him working there a pamphlet for working with mndot showd up at the house on the front picture is him working on gaurde rail and two or three guys standing behind him watching watching just classic
just a comment frm 6000 miles away and 80 degrees. to plan for a week prior, and to plan for a foot print twice the width of a normal "road" to allow the freezing of the water wide enough to spread the weight distribution. couldn't 'see' the road, drop 3-4 foot logs vertically to mark-off the ice bridge, just a safety issue + florescent tape/ribbons tied off. guess safety led flashers would be overkill & batteries wouldn't last a day it was entertaining....... be safe
here in north western Ont. Canada, if we did that to cross a creek, your ass would be cooked, we have temporary 20" steel i-beam frames we put over creeks to cross eqipment and log trucks to cross, and we have to puull them out when we are done. you cant put dirt on the ice, and you cant put equipment in the water with out a red tap permit or run on ice as that takes dirt on to the ice that ends up in the water, when i first started working in the bush camps many moons ago, you could get away with doing shit, but not for the past 40 plus years, because ass holes were pushing mud, rock, trees over the creeks and freezing them in..that ended that.. we first started using old log trailer for a bridge crossing 2 placed side by side, now we have to use big 20" i-beams due to the weight of the huge equipment that has to cross, we can make a road over a lake, by plowing it and flooding it 300 feet wide,, but cant bring nothing on the lake to build up the road, and all snow has to be removed before flooding. flooding a shallow creek 5 feet or less would freeze to the bottom and back water up for miles, witch people really didnt like, but it was the pack sack logers that screwed it up fo even the big pulp an paper camps
I thought they usually plowed the snow off then flood the ice with water and build up the ice thickness as snow makes an insulator slowing the freezing .there is s fellow who's very experienced in making ice roads his web site is "king of obsolete" from canada
@@davidhaley7053 you proved it will work the way you did it , enough water ,snow and cold temp being the most important. Hope it will support those logging trucks.
Now that is how you freeze/make a road in the winter!! Great video David. I think the key in that is not to dam up the water.
Thanks Skidder Kev
New name for channel " Ice road loggers" well done David and crew now you have another way of building roads.
It was a learning experience!
That's awesome that you have pictures of your grandfather at the same place 50 years earlier.
Way to go David, another interesting aspect of the work you all have to perform on a daily basis.
Glad you found it interesting. We sure learned that day.
Some damn good foresters helping you out there 👍🏻
I agree!!
Couldn't agree more!!
A learning experience for all of us!

We were actually trying to keep it fairly clean off anything but snow and water.
Good job boys. Have a great day.
Thanks Steven

It's -28F right now. Geez that's a lot of snow!!!!!!
Yes it is! But at least it'll be cold enough to keep the snow fluffy.I'd rather deal with 2 feet of dry snow than 2 inches of wet snow!
I like that freezing down the road idea it's a good video it's good to be earth-friendly in the spring you won't even know you were there
Great video with the drone David the dozer is doing great pushin snow hopefully ice bridge works well for ya
Thanks Chuck. I hope so too! Otherwise there might be a fail video in our future!
David Haley yeah wouldn’t be fun to fall through but it could happen

Very interesting, i look forward to seeing trucks rolling over it to the mill! Be Well
I'll be a little nervous for the first one. Won't happen for a few weeks though.
Dave, the Fire Company is going to be jealous, I know a good lawyer who does slip & falls, but I think you'd be 99% self inflicted, just too much fun.
