People! There might be an uncertainty regarding the Fällkniven bolster issue. It was only a problem with their first production run and has been solved now. If anyone has a problem with their knife they can send the knife to Fällkniven and get a new and fixed knife which will not have this problem. Chapeu to Fällkniven for the good customer service. Everyone makes mistakes, it's all about how you solve them!

@@lovemeknots "kakken zonder douwen" literally translates as "pooping without pushing", so it is used for an effortless process. Not a very polite expression, but not that rude either; an adequate description.

On the second big tree, you should have shown one guy going by carrying it, then the other guy also helping, then, because it was so long, have the first guy show up again carrying it, like a third person.

Bullshit. Unless you're bushwhacking or in your backyard, an axe is more trouble than it's worth. It's way too heavy and bulky. Now, you sometimes must carry an ice axe when you're traveling over snow or ice, but that's something different.

Who hikes with a fucking axe? An axe is fine if you're at a National Park campsite, or in your backyard. But I've never heard of anybody doing the PCT with an axe in his pack. Axes are way too heavy and bulky. Now, you have to sometimes hike or scramble with an ICE axe, but that's a different thing.

You have a saw to cut down the tree. The saw vastly outperforms the axe, and is much safer to use. Then you can have a saw for felling and cutting down logs, a billhook for delimbing and batonning, and a small knife for carving and bushcraft. Each tool is optimized for its use: the saw is the best solution if you need to rapidly part wood across the fibers. The billhook (rather Italian style: roncola bergamo for exemple) is best for medium chopping, batoning, and handling logs around. The knife can be kept as sharp as one wants since it will be kept only for light duties and won't hit any rock, and it's small size and specific use allows to make it quite light.

^ haha true. I never had wrists hurting by using an axe all day. I dont know how he uses an axe but my wrists stay straight using them. Its like using a hammer. A long and/or heavy machette you use more as that as well but giving a bit of wrist action to it. A med. sized machette is just like kitchen knives, you use the wrists almost only. having a wife dont help... those wrists dont get no action no more as the wife does all the action now hahaha

Or you could carry this amazing new invention they call a “lighter”. And if it were a true emergency (sure still carry a ferro rod too, why not?) you’ll use either your axe edge at the tip (you’ll still have a sharp belly)... or you’re hyper smart and carry a file too and have flatted one of the thin edges... (that’s what I do). Totally violates the ‘one tool’ philosophy - but working smarter means realizing you bring the right tools for the right jobs. Like lighters.

I'm testing small axes now for uses such as these. I am also getting ready to try a Tomahawk style ax/hatchet as well. A nice hickory handled small ax to me is a better and more versatile tool. A true 'woodcraft' ax would fare much better in tests such as these as well. Granted, making spoons and things aren't going to be as easy but, a lot of the deficits shown by the DBK boys where the knife prevailed would turn out different with a more specialized ax.

You guys are crazy. Thanks for showing (in a very entertaining way) that both tools have their purposes.
So-far as I'm learning I *always* bring a small axe / hatchet when I head out to the woods. I just throw it on my sons pack and the additional weight doesn't bother me at all. =D

You gents are the perfect team. I really enjoy your videos. My 5 & 3 year old love the jaktkit and Mickey's favorite knife video. The part where Marten starts singing and Mickieb runs off they laugh. And on the gunny video, they love when you scream at the wood while feather sticking. Please keep making these excellent and hilarious videos! Subscribed.

I figured I might add my opinion on using a fire steel. I find pulling the steel back and holding the blade or striker stationary to be more controllable and in some situations when using small light tinder you stand a much less of a chance of pushing it away or spreading it across the ground. Just a little tip no one asked for 😂
