Dragnet was an excellent series, both very much of its time and... we're still watching it! Furthermore, whilst Los Angeles is in no sense a lovely city, the opening panoramas have always stuck with me. I wonder how these scenes would look today...

I just love the times Friday admonishes someone like he does the rookie officer (the one who wants to be in on the big capers) For some it's just a learning process and they'll eventually make out fine but others will wash out soon.
In this episode there's no good ending for any of the victims except the perpetrators are caught.

@@grantkitchen7928 listen to me. Watch the show and watch it good. Even though they didn't "solve" the case they got the suspect.
Now if you're or a loved one is a police officer, security guard, in the armed force, or a firefighter; great for you. But you of all people know how difficult crime is hard to control & cases are hard to solve. I would like to see you honor those who have gone before you & not be critical.
But if you're a civilian, be quiet!!! It's so easy to criticize & not do anything about it. The heroic men and women, of our law enforcement, military, and fire departments are beyond amazing. They go to work, knowing there's a chance they may never come home, they spend some of the holidays/birthdays/anniversaries by themselves. They're not always there for special events. Why? Because they are willing to protect and defend so that we can enjoy our lives. They pull long hours, get exhausted, hungry, thirsty, homesick and much more. Imagine going to a job knowing that there's a chance you may not live through a shift?!? Or a job that pays alright; while others who criticize/hate/grumble about you,; get such a much bigger salary in one thing than you will get in your life!!!! I have said what I needed. Just think before you're so quick to criticize!!!!!

@@glorygriffith4386 I agree with everything you just said. And believe me I have mad respect for police, firefighters, military, etc. My comment was not meant to be a negative criticism though I now see how it could come off as such and I apologize believe me I'm one of the last people to speak negatively about law enforcement. I was merely making an observation that they only solved two of the cases in this episode the old lady who was attacked I don't think they caught that guy and I also don't recall them catching a "suspect" who stole the homeless guy's change when did that happen? 🤔 I may have to watch it again. I was just saying it was kinda unusual for them not to solve the crime but it was more realistic this way I guess. Again I meant nothing negative by my comment and I apologize if it came off as disrespectful.

This is a nasty one because it was so brutal and the perps showed no remorse. Ma and Pa grocery stores and old single people, just the hard working people they picked on, people trying their best to live their lives. Brutal on many levels. Good character development, well written. A real gem of a Dragnet.

One of the things that stands out is the how the penalties and consequences for committing a crime seem so tough. I mean, I you expect the penalty for murder to be stiff. But when they show robbery suspects going up for 5 to 10 years...man, strict. Things are sure different today, and not for better...
