Bobby Charlton versus Mexico in the World Cup 1966 is very very special. Interesting that modern commentators only go back about 30 years at best. Of those shown the John Barnes goal against Brazil is by far and away the best.
It’s still astonishing all these years later. You’ve got one of the most feared defenders in the game, Colin Hendry practically murdered by the sweetest touch of a football I’ve ever seen.
It's worth remembering that immediately before that goal, Scotland has a penalty saved. Seaman parried the ball away and gathered safely from the resulting corner kick. He then threw ball to G Neville, and I think he passed it on to Gazza. The rest is history...
@martinwheeler208 shearer sliced it though, he admits it himself! luckily he didn't slice it enough ! But I agree Teddy's assist was just class - looked technically perfect (well it was!)
@@antoniosilvestro9045 I love it when absolute whoppers come up with "easiest route" because I like embarrassing people with facts. Firstly let's address that part, which is England beat the team who beat Portugal 2-0 before the tournament, then the team who beat the 3rd best team in the FIFA rankings, then beat a solid Netherlands team, doesn't seem particularly easy to me. Then there's Argentina in 1990 who lost their first match to Cameroon and scored 2 goals in their 4 knockout matches on their way to the final, or the two finalists in 2002 where Germany played Paraguay, USA and South Korea, scoring only 3 goals, and Brazil played Turkey (twice), Costa Rica and China. England were maybe their toughest opponent. Or how about Italy in 1982 who progressed from the group (and went on to win the tournament) despite not winning a match, finishing level with Cameroon and only progressed on goals scored (1 more goal than Cameroon). Or how about Italy in the 1968 Euros who "won" the semi final on a coin toss? So before you come out with bollocks such as "easiest", make sure your knowledge is up to scratch first 👍 And maybe you'd like to explain how the 66 World Cup was fixed 👍

And Beckham was just doing what he does, but that John Barnes unstoppable run with all that dribbling through eight players has to easily be the number 1 goal here. #johnbarnes #
Beckhams free kick ,against Greece,Owen’s goal against Argentina and Gazzas goal against Scotland three of the best ever goals amazing to watch time and time again
England top goals surely have to be more than just a single shot from distance, as in a free kick. The build up is central and for that, Bobby Charlton v Mexico must be number one.

Nat Lofthouse's goal v Austria in 1953, even though he knew he'd get injured in the process (He ended up breaking his leg in a clash with the goalkeeper), he still went for it.
Cole - yes. A sumptuous strike from a player we never saw the best of in an England shirt. Beckham - no. He’d been lining those free kicks up all the second half without success - and why didn’t the goalie try to save it? Owen - yes. Truly sensational goal at a World Cup and wasn’t he still only eighteen? Barnes - no. Looks great but was in a friendly. Were Brazil bothered? Gazza - yes. Without a doubt, a genuinely great goal. Technique, pace, guts, flamboyance, cool finish. A violent, beautiful goal.
David Platt's goal definitevely belongs someplace up there, probably at #1. I remember a commentary at the time that said the goal was so perfectly executed that Belgium's defense hadn't even made anything wrong.

Only one Bobby!
His England debut goal against Scotland was also awesome, with Sir Tom Finney, the Preston plumber, providing the cross.
