Yeah, that’s an amp I’ve considered many times. Affordable, straight forward approach and looks so cool! But to be honest I think every smaller tube amp in Fender’s catalogue below the 65 Princeton reissue (which I own) in terms of price has certain drawbacks for me that keep me away. Love the look of the Pro Jr, but the 68 Vibro Champ is probably the best candidate for me if I were to add another smaller Fender.
I have the Bassbreaker 007 combo and the Bassbreaker 15 combo in Midnight Oil (with Celestion Greenback). Years of recording with no issues, just replaced the tubes in each. I've been very happy with these two!
I had the 15 years ago, however with the first gen problem in the effects loop. Do you have the 007 combo? How do you compare it to the 15? Is the gain structure in the bb007 is similar to the middle gain of the 15? Thanks!
The 007 is great, pretty much a mini Marshall. It is class A and no FX loop. I would say it is like the mid channel of the 15 but does overlap into the cleans and then more gain at the top end. But very close. I never use the FX loop on the 15, even later models still has something wonky going on. Otherwise, both great amps for me.
I like mine. I live in a small apartment so it's been difficult for me to find the right tone I'm looking for. Volume is at a 1 or 2, anything more is simply too loud. Looking for the right pedal combos to dial mine in. Either way, sweet little amp
I put the Pro Jr IV head in a mojotone tweed head made for it, got a mojotone tweed 1x12 tremolux size cab with a Weber 12A150 alnico, all new TAD tubes. Light, loud, sounds great.
I got mine used for a few hundred bucks cheaper than new. Have it running with a Tone King Mini Attenuator. I was on the fence with this amp until I got the attenuator. Now I love it. It sounds amazing totally maxed out with volume, then dial in the tone based on the what you're looking for and the guitar you're using. It has such a pleasant, saturated overdrive. If I use a really high output humbuckers, like an Invader, it legit sounds like I'm using a big muff except I can back off with the attack or volume and clean it up. I'm sure I'll get another amp because I like to waste money, but this thing is amazing. It's pretty much great for anything but metal.
I have a Fender BJ IV and a Fender Twin Reverb. I totally love the BJ IV best. I play clean, no pedals. My Gibson LP Standard 60's and Fender American UltraI Luxe Tele sound beautiful thru the BJ IV.
My Blues Junior appeals to me more, more versatile, 12” speaker, Master Volume. I really like your in depth reviews. What I’d like to see from you is a review & comparison of the Fender Princeton Tonemaster & ‘65 Princeton Reverb reissue.
I bought this amp about a year ago because I was worried they'd go back to black tolex and I'd regret not picking up a tweed. It's a great amp, I use a Boss RV-6 for reverb.
I bought one of these at the holidays. I appreciate the review and agree with your sentiment. I use a attenuator and it really helps with both overall spl and it also helps with noise 60hz. Keep up the good work
Why do all the newer fender amps distort so much and so low in the volume. My older fender amps were all much cleaner. I was going to buy one of the hand wired Princetons until I tried one and was amazed to hear it get very distorted at any vol much past 3.
@@tonilehmann3381 You don't need to. Chinese made voxes are built like tanks, oranges have good boards and quality caps, the Fender '68 custom series are decent. There are good cheap options. Your amp will die and you will be sad
Happy owner of the exact same Pro Junior IV as the one demoed here. I'm no technitian though, as a gigging guitarist, I can say I have been using mine intensively for the past three years without any issue whatsoever, totally replacing my other more expensive amps, such as Fender 65 Princeton Reverb Ri and Vox AC15 handwired with Alnico Blue speaker. Totally reliable amp so far.
Looking at this, a Blues Jr. IV and a Vox AC10. Played these in the store--was surprised that Pro Jr. had headroom and mojo. Actually, all three sounded good. The Blues Jr. IV seems like a safe, but neutral choice. The VoxAC10 surprised me--easy to get good sounds, but this had the mojo. I need a small, flexible amps for roots rock/blues/billy gigs, but also something that I can use for church gigs (and effects--church gigs need lots of pedals, heh heh--like U2 dotted 8s). Would this handle both? I'm actually satisfied it has volume and mojo, but I've fooled myself in the store in the past.
Jack thanks for the awesome demo of this amp. Do you feel like this amp is appropriate at "home" volumes? Not bedroom but say... living room volumes? I would be using the SD-1 for overdrive rather than cranking the amp.
Thanks! It actually wouldn't be my first choice. For home volume in general I'd get something like the Vibro Champ Reverb, or a Vox AC10 which has the master volume.
The Blues JR IV FSR 1x12 Speaker 15 Watt Western Tolex that is made exclusively only for Sweetwater Music is the best out of all the Blues JR amps especially with the the Cannabis Rex speaker that they used for it..It’s the only Blues JR out of all their series they made that uses that speaker and it’s an amazing different sound.
I have a champ 40. Solid state w 3 tweed voices, 3 blackface voices and an excellent clean channel 2. As a novice player, will I benefit from this or a blue jr? Will I hear a diff? Live in an apt where I can’t rly go past volume level 2-3 btw.
Honestly I think you’re just fine sticking with the champ for now. Particularly in an apartment setting. If you decide to upgrade, see if you can find a Fender Super Champ XD or X2 used. Those were awesome and sounded great at low volumes.
@@JackFossett thanks for the input! Do you have experience with the champ 40? Any recs as far as best clean settings? Find myself playing through the first black face setting or channel 2, eq bass-7 treble-6, reverb/delay effect at 3, it don’t venture out much. I find the tweed voices sound far away, so if I lower the volume on the Strat, and turn up the amp volume it brings it forward.
Depends what clean you want and the room (that makes a difference to the EQ settings) I've had most of the small fender tube amps and Champion 40 since they came out. It's pretty good with the blackface settings. The first one is modelled on the twin reverb...too clean for me. Second is the deluxe... Definitely my favourite. Third is the Princeton which I find cuts through better in some situations when jamming with friends. There's no one setting that works in all situations. Best value amp around for covering a range of sounds IMO. PS my old pro junior was really noisy... Buzz, hum. Got quite annoying.
I briefly had a Blues Junior III but traded it off. I have a JOYO JTA-05 (Fender Champ clone) and a Gretsch Electromatic G5222 (Fender Champion 600 clone.) My Greta is a Fender product, but that one is its own thing lol.
I have the mono price and it sounds good. But the tubes blew in 5 months and there is basically no clean sound. It breaks up right away. It’s a fun amp and I have gigged with it but the repairs cost more than the amp.
Half the price of the new Gibson Falcon 5 watt and with the Les Paul delivers some really really nice fat classic rock style dirt. Off course the Gibson / Falcon - Mesa is built here in the US,..LoL! I like the amp with a Les Paul and I think as long as youve got either humbuckers or p-90s you can have a lot of fun with it. The Strat, however is another matter. The single coils were , atleast in this demo,.thin, weak, lacking in color and,.. and ,.I dont know,.just really "uninspiring" is all i can think of typing LoL! I want to say that,..with the Strat it literally sounded like the worst type of modeling amp, but this is just one demo-example of playing. Although i suspect that .this amp might benefit greatly from adding reverb and a slightly bigger speaker I am going to check out some more vids with it before i put it on my "buy list" .I now John Segeborn did a video with it a couple years back.
I hope you didn't just jinx it. 😮 I may have to get one quick before the prices go up $100 like the Champ, and 68 vibro champ just did. I've been on the fence between those and this one for quite some time.
The Alnico Jensen is quite sweet at clean, but shrill as «all» Jensens when driven. I put a g10 greenback in my PJ IV. Less bell-like cleans, but amazing drive tones. @@JackFossettMy first comment was rude. I apologize. Let me put it less harshly. I think the Pro Junior is probably too loud for home use and not loud enough for playing with a band. I'm not a proponent of very loud music, but an amp for performance has got to keep up with a drummer. For home use a master volume or attenuated output design is important. So this amp doesn't seem to suit either situation.
@@charleshuguley9323 oh no worries, that wasn’t rude - blunt maybe, but not rude. You should see the comments on the Epiphone video I just did. Many of those are in serious need of some manners 😬
@Fenderonly2746 Not here to make more than musical waves, however, I feel compelled to make you aware, lest you had forgotten in the mad rush of life-on-earth: you choose to go by the moniker “Fenderonly” (I have no idea to what the number “2746” may mean.) Beyond @JackFossett reminding us of the video’s title, ergo Fender-to-Fender, which would appear self-evident, yer selling out your screen-name, brother. (I think Supra’s are awesome, by the way. Just having Sunday-with-beers UA-cam fun.) Hope all is well in all corners, folks! 🙏🏽✌🏽💙 from Minnesota
I agree. I've been through two PJ IVs in the last few years - all of them are noisy - in three different houses including my current home which has dedicated outlets for my amps
0:07 - sorry you didn’t see it! I put playing right at the beginning and a lot later so it would be totally obvious and impossible to miss, but I guess you did.
I got one this week from Reverb. What do I win?!! 🥲 🙂 (About it being loud enough with a drummer, couldn't you put towels on top of the drum heads, or use rubber drumsticks? 🥲)

OK HWERE WE GHOO FRIENDSD OF THWE WORKLD OF GUITARISTS WANTING THE COOLES AMPS FOR ALL OCASIOOINS IN MY OPINION.. = MIKE. = P.S. s. bottom line i do love thes original fender Pro Jr's wit he old vintage simplicity of a volume knob and a tone knob and that is it. like Eric said Layla was recorded on a original Fender 1957 Fender champ and his 1956 Stratocaster the studio no effects that wasd ll.. just the amp. so i am a favorive supporter of that plus i do know that adding in my case adding in the kilter upgrade which in the daty was just co0ndered an upgrade to a better speaker to those that knew the benefit = JBL D-=110F yes so you do not get any better than that period so agaIN YES i LOVE THE RO JR. NO MATTER IF IT IS THE ORIGIANL LIKE MUINE OR VERSION 1 OR 2 OR 3 OR 4 IN TERMS OF SUOPER IMPROVEMENTS I STILL WOULD BE SUPER HAPPY TO SHOWE UP WEITH MY 1994 AND 195 TWEED PR JR'S WITH THOSE j.b.l.d- 110f SPEAKERS ALL READY INSTALLED AND RTREADY TO GO IN ANY AMP COMPARISON OR GIG OR RECORDINDING SETTING WIT H sIR eRIC CLAPT ON OER WHO EVER LET US DO ITY BAYBE LETS DO IT BOTTOM LINE IT WILL SOUND Great = Like Tony The Fickin Tiger. = Right On = !!!!!!!!!!!!! M.G. in phoenix, Az. = stay safe and healthy.M.G.= Mike...!!.
I feel that the top end of this amp is too bright and rather intrusive
It definitely can be. Not an atypical characteristic for budget Fender tube amps.
I've been playing since 1963 and tube amps are on the way out.Tubes are hard to find and expensive when you do find them. No more tube amps.
Sounds small, nasal and boxy. I'll pass, thanks.
Definitely not, the pro and blues Jr amps are pretty grim
Useless for the bedroom and useless for gigging. What's the point?
So you’re a fan is what you’re saying?
Absolutely not. Supro delta king 10 is far better for the price
Referring to just Fender tube amps, regarding the video title
@Fenderonly2746
Not here to make more than musical waves, however, I feel compelled to make you aware, lest you had forgotten in the mad rush of life-on-earth: you choose to go by the moniker “Fenderonly” (I have no idea to what the number “2746” may mean.)
Beyond @JackFossett reminding us of the video’s title, ergo Fender-to-Fender, which would appear self-evident, yer selling out your screen-name, brother.
(I think Supra’s are awesome, by the way. Just having Sunday-with-beers UA-cam fun.)
Hope all is well in all corners, folks! 🙏🏽✌🏽💙 from Minnesota
@@strummercash5601 haha I’m fender only on guitars only
@@JackFossett yeah I guess I didn’t read it lol
@@strummercash5601alls well here in Northumberland, England 👍🏽
There is nothing great about Mine gets all kinds of noises squealing and rattles my pig nose amp is much better better sound too
I agree. I've been through two PJ IVs in the last few years - all of them are noisy - in three different houses including my current home which has dedicated outlets for my amps
Blah blah blah... lets hear it
0:07 - sorry you didn’t see it! I put playing right at the beginning and a lot later so it would be totally obvious and impossible to miss, but I guess you did.
Im buying a clone from china
Which one?
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The Son = The Sun
Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Luke 17:21
I got one this week from Reverb. What do I win?!! 🥲 🙂 (About it being loud enough with a drummer, couldn't you put towels on top of the drum heads, or use rubber drumsticks? 🥲)
You could put your amp on a chair like Rory Gallagher
