Haven't watched this yet but I'm glad you're tackling this knotty problem. I know I can rely on this channel for intelligent analysis. Most of the extremism we see comes from hadiths that encourage violence and hate. It's wonderful to see scholars like yourself addressing the issue head on. Some Muslim governments are revising school textbooks to exclude egregious cases of religious intolerance. This is all to the good. Now let me watch your video.

As Dr. Shabbir said these Hadith had their origins in something the Prophet (S) in some context and were presented by the narrators in a distorted or changed form which put them in contradiction to Quran. My question is why on earth we have to worry about these reported sayings of the Prophet on some events which we must white-wash to make them palatable for our time. These events are not relevent in our time while the Quran is relevant for ever. We should just ignore these Hadiths and live with the Quran for a meaningful life.

Thank you, Dr. Shabir. My quick solution when given this kind of hadith is by putting it in parking lot. If I cannot accept a hadith with my conscience and my logic then I am empowered to question it, it is my afterlife at stake. It may take years before I learn that particular hadith has different meaning than my initial understanding, or a plain fabrication, but it is the journey that we all take as muslim and may Allah SWT is pleased with us.

Our beloved Prophet never fought any offensive war, rather defensive war. He was compelled to fight. At very first they took shelter near the well of Badar, but were attacked by the attackers. Thenceforward, prophet developed a military force to defend. All the sword or jihad verse are nothing but military training and persuasion. If there were no barrier of preaching Islam, there would be no fight. Matter of Grief that, some false fabricated history book and Hadith book portrayed our beloved prophet as an offensive warrior hero and expansionist.

because most did not want to take responsibility for passing down hadith, ever wondered why so few hadith are passed down to us through our prophets closest companions like abu bakr, umar, uthman, ali, talha, zubair, fatima his daughter ( may allah be pleased with them all ). But Aisha and abu Huraira amongst others took the opposite view and saw hadith literature as a great treasure, and so these two are quoted the most as hadith transmitters. my own reservation around some hadith is that they lack any context as to why the prophet pbuh said what he said, what situation was he addressing as this is critical in applying a hadith to our times without this context you really are flying blind.

It beggars belief that Ali thinks that the Islamic conquests are the reason for jihad Hadith and not the results of them.
So a people who already controlled Medinah, Makkah and surrounding areas. Were Self sufficient. Decide to decend upon the two greatest superpowers of the World simultaneously. Successfully driving out one from key territories and ending the other. In a few decades they reached the Atlantic Ocean west, China east and Constantinople North. Then they started writing Hadiths 100 years later to justify that 🤔
This historical revision raises more questions than answers. What was their motivations if not what we have today? Money? Why didn't they stop after they'd won the unimaginable riches of the Persia, Egypt and Syria? What gave them the audacity to go out and take over a quarter of the old world within a few decades? Where are the voices of opposition to the alleged deviance from the prophet Muhammad pbuh message? What do you do to verses talking about Jizyah? Do you reject Qur'an too?
You're basically pretending Islam is like Christianity. Where rules of using violence aren't expressly laid out but can be whatever leaders feel like. Violence in Islam has clear guidelines in the Qur'an and Hadith.

thank you for this dr shabir and sister safiyah, correct me if i am wrong but the above hadith lacks context in that we dont know why and when the prophet pbuh said this, was there a war going on ? was there a severe threat at the time? This is similar to winston churchills speeches about fighting the germans on the beaches and never surrendering is that for all times whenevr one meets a german or within the context of the second world war. Same here I feel, In the quran we have context as to why and when most of the verses were revealed and what problems/issues Allah was addressing but a lot of hadith literature lacks this context thus leaving them open to wild and sometimes very intolerant interpretations. Also ever wondered why his closest companions did not take responsibility to pass down hadith to us ( we only have a handful of hadith from them ) but Aisha, abu huraira and some others took the opposite view and thought the hadith were a great treasure that needs to be passed down. Surely if they were meant to so important our prophet would have institutionnalised their preservation during his lifetime as he did with the quran

He is using circular reasoning. The Quran conveys both views of allah. But Shabir only wants to see the lovey-dovey version of Islam because it comports with his preconception of allah and Muhammad. SMH.

Thank you for you thought, but in fairness I must share that not All terrorist activity is carried on by "muslims" but rather by individuals who are identified as, or identify themselves as Muslims. Tribal warfare in Sudan, for instance is tribal sectarian fighting in which such labels as "sub-saharan", "black", "arab," "Christian" and "Muslim" are freely used for convenience as the actual actors are a complex collection of organized crime, warlords, independent security forces and village populations. The simple fact is that bad actors often hide behind doctrines and beliefs that have been twisted out of original meaning and context to rationalize conduct. FWIW.

The Qur'an is enough brothers and sisters, do not follow other hadiths besides the Qur'an.
And in anything over which you disagree - *its ruling is [to be referred] to Allah.* [Say], "That is Allah , my Lord; upon Him I have relied, and to Him I turn back." 42:10
"One day We shall raise from all Peoples a witness against them, from amongst themselves: and We shall bring thee as a witness against these (thy people): and We have sent down to thee the *Book explaining all things* , a Guide, a Mercy, and Glad Tidings to Muslims." 16:89
"O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. There has come to you from Allah *a light and a clear Book* ." 5:15
"Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the *Book and a clear Qur'an* ." 15:1
"Shall I seek other than Allah for judge, when He it is Who hath *revealed unto you (this) Scripture, fully explained* ? Those unto whom We gave the Scripture (aforetime) know that it is revealed from thy Lord in truth. So be not thou (O Muhammad) of the waverers." 6:114
" *A Book whose verses have been detailed* , an Arabic Qur'an for a people who know," 41:3
" *Thus do We explain the signs in detail* ; and perchance they may turn (unto Us)." 7:174
"And when We read it, follow thou the reading;" 75:18
"Nay more, *it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear)* : 75:19
"For We had certainly sent unto them a Book, based on knowledge, *which We explained in detail* ,- a guide and a mercy to all who believe." 7:52
"And they do not come to you with an argument except that *We bring you the truth and the best explanation* ." 25:33
" *Allah has sent down the best hadith* : a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide." 39:23
"These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you in truth. *Then in what hadith after Allah and His verses will they believe?* " 45:6
"Then in what *hadith* after the Qur'an will they believe?" 77:50
So obey Allah, and obey His Messenger: but if ye turn back, *the duty of Our Messenger is but to proclaim (the Message) clearly and openly* . 64:12
"Say, "Obey Allah and obey the Messenger; but if you turn away - then upon him is only that [duty] with which he has been charged, and upon you is that with which you have been charged. And if you obey him, you will be [rightly] guided. *And there is not upon the Messenger except the [responsibility for] clear notification* ." 24:54
    *The most merciful* 55:1
"It is *He* Who has taught the Qur'an." 55:2
" *The guiding of them is not thy duty* (O Muhammad), but Allah guideth whom He will. And whatsoever good thing ye spend, it is for yourselves, when ye spend not save in search of Allah's Countenance; and whatsoever good thing ye spend, it will be repaid to you in full, and ye will not be wronged." 2:272
"And We have certainly diversified in this Qur'an for the people from *every [kind of] example* ; *but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute.* " 18:54
"Say, " Allah is most knowing of how long they remained. He has [knowledge of] the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. How Seeing is He and how Hearing! They have not besides Him any protector, and *He shares not His legislation with anyone.* "" 18:26
“You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. *Legislation is not but for Allah.* He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.” 18:40

Yet again the channel of “Let Shabir Ali Speak on Behalf of Allah” has produced another video.
How can they say with a straight face that the prophet’s war were all defensive and he would not attack unless attacked? Have you not read the history? How did the battle of Badr start? Who ordered the killing of young boys of Bani Quraidha? Who ordered the killing of several poets merely for speaking up against Mohammad? And many more.
    Shabir and Safia,
How can you honestly go to sleep every night thinking that you have lied so much to cover up for Allah?
I have far more respect for the Taliban who are honest about Islam than these two liars masquerading as scholars.

The Hadith is there but there’s context. Read the seerah and Islamic history and see how Muslims were with non Muslims. Umar bin khattab ra gave refuge to the Jews and Christian’s in Palestine and allowed the access to their holy sites. You have to realize when and why the Hadith was mentioned. Under which context. The Arabs at time of prophet salallahu 3layhiwassalaam were a very tribal society who were also warring tribes so there’s a context for the verses and Hadith. War is war if you look at the crusades they would say either convert to Christianity or we will kill the heathen saracens and this is history. Warfare has a set of rules for certain periods that it is necessary to be more strategic during periods of warfare. If you read the seerah you see the quraysh travelled thousands of miles just to declare war on the prophet salallahu 3layhiwassalaam and his companions to even where they moved when they migrated to yathrib. If you look at the invasion of iraq George bush said the crusades are back and many of the us soldiers were saying horrendous inhumane things and did those things in iraq and sanctioned it all over muslim majority countries in the Middle East. So I don’t think we have to necessarily try and prove a point. There’s a reason the Quran came to prophet salallahu 3layhiwassalaam and the Arabs at the time it did as if you look at pre Islamic Arabia it was worst of the worst. The Arabs were tribal, alcoholics, mostly pagan, womanizers. Injustice was rampant and consuming unlawful wealth off ppls backs was known so the Arabs were an example because we deal with the same stuff to this day we are just more populated and have technology to know what’s happening. Bottom line a free license to kill indiscriminately and murder?. Islam is the last if not only religion that will support that as if you look at the seerah and the Islamic conquests after the death of prophet salallahu 3layhiwassalaam the muslims were contacted by ppl all over to help them from the Roman Catholics st the time. So it’s not a matter of oh should we try and rectify this Hadith or not, look at the context and when it was said and what circumstances were there for it to be said
