I saw it live, it was absolutely amazing. And the Met Opera in general is a stunning experience. Definitely something everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
the problem is not if they are both sopranos. one is a dramatic soprano, with a heavier voice; and the other should be a more youthful, ethereal and lovely voice.
There is nothing dramatic, or even expressive, in this constant off-pitch screeching. For those who like it, fine, but there’s no way I would pay money to be subjected to it.
This looks like a copy of Schneider-Siemssen production. Karajan ring sets, Otto Schenk ring costumes. It’s very strange for Lohengrin. Looks more like Das Rheingold.
Saw this production - It was absolutely cruel to put Wilson on camera in close-ups that ruined every scene she appeared in. When she fell to her knees, three chorusmen had to help her up to her feet....laughable and unforgivable. Difficult to believe that Lohengrin would have fallen for such a beast. Not since Zinka Milanov fell to her knees in Cav. causing a 'thump' that was heard in the Family Circle has there been anything so out of place. The entire production might as well have been sung as an oratorio. The director's concept of staging was to have the chorus stand in straight-line clumps for 41/2 hours. A great waste of money and energy. Gelb should be shot.

not enough velvet and plushiness in Wilson’s voice, so there’s not enough contrast with Goerke. it’s almost as if Wilson could be the Ortrud as well.

Goerke's tones are racked by intrusive vibrato and there is insufficient contrast when both Orturd and Elsa are sung by sopranos.

listen to Elizabeth Connell as Ortrude in Bayreuth. She had a bright tone but her acting a good technique was sensational

good makeup artist might be able help but not the production did Lohengrin forget his costume?
