- The U.S. Coast Guard, working closely with the Gumbo-Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton, Florida helped to released more than 500 sea turtle hatchlings into the Atlantic Ocean on Monday.
The hatchlings, collected from nesting areas around the Florida coast, were released into deeper waters off of Florida, along with several adult turtles that the nature center had been rehabilitating.

ahh last year we were walking the beach and a nest hatched! there was like 300 little guys running into the ocean! really was a once in a lifetime thing!
I have seen sea turtles hatch many times, I always thought they had to leave the beach under their own power so they know how to get back when it is time to lay their eggs. Guess I was wrong.

I wonder if they kept them for a year or two to get larger would the survival rate be greater ......... would they still come back to the beach where they were hatched ?
