Why the fire and rescue services in Marseille is provided by French Navy?
中華人民共和國統一工作部 only fire brigade. For historical reasons. Same thing for Paris the fire brigade is part of the french Army it goes back to Napoleon , at this time there was a HUDGE fire in Paris and the fire brigade was so crap that Napoleon decided that the Paris fire brigade would be managed by the army
But for Marseille i don't know the reason.
The French military provides fire protection in both Paris and Marseille (France's two largest cities) and perhaps another one (Toulon?). In Paris it's the army and in Marseille it's the navy due to the prominence of Marseille as a port city on the Mediterranean Sea.
Code3Paris - emergency responses non a toulon les pompiers militaires n'agissent que sur le port militaire de toulon peut etre le civil aussi
Same story in Marseille as in Paris: in 1938 there was a big fire in the "Nouvelles Galeries" which caused the death of 73 people. Civil firefighters were unable to handle the situation, but the the Toulon Marine Brigade intervened succesfully. So they decided to confide the security of Marseille to the Navy as well.
