Boris Johnson has imposed strict restrictions on travel and work to try and stop the spread of coronavirus. These restrictions have caused confusion as some police forces have fined dog walkers or people going out on unnecessary drives. Peter Hitchens thinks people are overreacting to the outbreak and the lockdown is not useful but Piers argues the UK is not going far enough to curb the spread of the virus.

Peter Hitchens was bang on the money...... literally everything he said would happen is now reality.
He was wrong about COVID being the same as the flu, they're not even caused by the same viruses.

Looking back on the lock downs seems so foolish now. I have a feeling another is coming soon.
No it's not, people weren't following the last one in 2021 let alone follow a new one in 2024
Instead of nationwide lockdowns, they should’ve paid private courier companies to deliver healthy and substantial food packages to the over 65s, as well as their pharmacy prescriptions, on a weekly basis. Would’ve cost a fraction of the furlough scheme. Kids wouldn’t have lost out on their education. Small businesses wouldn’t have been hit so hard. And we wouldn’t have had that ridiculous eat out to help out scheme or whatever it was called by sunak.
I'd like to see a systematic analysis of who was right and who was wrong in 2019-2020. We should listen more to those who evaluated the situation accurately. Likely they have higher predictive ability.
If people can be fined for buying non essential goods, shops should be fined for selling non essential goods. That's why we buy em. They're there to be bought. Dafuq lol.

Interesting. I'm from Australia and can attest that Peter Couldn't be more wrong. Economy has bounced (maybe too much) and we saved possibly thousands of lives by intrducing lockdown.
Sweden has lowest excess deaths in Europe and inflation is through the roof everywhere, your a typical ozzie clown.
Sweden didn't lockdown and they had one of the lowest excess death rates of all OECD countries including lower than Australia and New Zealand.
Lockdown saved no one
