Sunday morning in South Carolina, drinking a coffee on my deck and watching Kevin’s video. Great way to start the day
Thanks!!
Same thing here in FL, having coffee and donuts myself
Upstate South Carolina checking in!
From the “home of the Mothman” along the Ohio River!
Sounds divine! Enjoy my friend!
Should get Eddy to set up a camera and Timelapse his work around the shop too to get you more content Kev. It awesome watching the Cutlass gettin done but he does pretty good work (for who it’s for🤦🏻♂️) and it will give us update vids on other shop projects mid week.
Gotta say I love the cutlass videos. I love seeing you use the carbon welding hood so much. I gotta say I’m honored that you’re using it on your own project. Soon I will be sending a new surprise for you❤
That is a sweet ass helmet.. keep it up, man..
Every time I click on a KSR video I automatically say "Alright everybody" when it starts lol..
Watching you build your own car is awesome. It's always someone else's vision, this time it will be the car that you want to build. As always, thanks for showing us what it takes to build a car at this level.
I like my Sunday mornings now. I always enjoy your Sunday videos on the frame and what it takes to build a certified chassis.
Eggs, sausage, and KSR makes for a good Sunday breakfast.
You did the tapping operation perfectly. I've been a lathe machinist for 20+ years. For a small quantity, that is the best way to get a nice true thread without the risk of crashing your machine. Nice work!! There are other ways for sure, but that is exactly how I would have done it.
Just watched a video about Cleetus explaining how he blew up on UA-cam. I thought it was cool how he gave Kevin props on helping him. The KSR, Vice Grip Garage, Cleetus fam seem like solid dudes and I love their videos.
Sunday afternoon in the Netherlands, sitting down with a tea and enjoying the the KSR Cutlass update. Go sir!
Cutloose Sundays…….. yahhhhhhhh……. Take it away Kevin…….👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
In order to be ready for sick week you should finish up the cutlass in time to make sick summers 😊
Kev, you can only do so much on the Cutlass, especially when 4 wide racing is happening at ZMax dragway !! Let's go Parts Plus !!!
My new Monday morning routine, get up, shower, make my coffee and then sit down and have a Cutlass catch up with Kevin before starting the day.
These Sunday Cutlass videos turned into my favorites really quick, I see Cleetus has a new video out, oh well, it can wait! Lol
I think the reason is one is entertaining and the other is educational, I think the educational one is more satisfying, the same with the SME videos.
Thanks for sharing, see you next week.
Your tapping process on the lathe is how any decent machinist would do it.
On smaller tapped hole sizes doing the same thing, using a tap handle and a center in the tailstock where your drill chuck is located helps to feed it in straight and how much resistance the tap is giving you into "blind" holes that can bottom out. Sometimes small taps can break pretty easy when you don`t have a good "feel" of it feeding in.
Congrats on 300k subscribers!
Love your work Kev
Thanks!!!
Can't wait to see the olds engine.
Kev is gonna get me all motivated to go work on my car today. Appreciate it
Heck Yeah!!
Raycon is an awesome product!! I get headaches from ear muffs and safety glasses all the time!! It’s amazing to me how much detail goes into the build of the cage and body of these cars!! Absolutely love seeing this build!!!!!!
Kevin, Don't forget that you get bonus points for keeping a Cutlass Oldsmobile powered. Hopefully, the car can stay that way.
Can't wait to see the Cutlass finished. Great looking cars!!!
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!!
You can totally see the legs of the dashbar closing in when you weld them in.
Crazy to see that much motion on them.
Thanks again Kevin. I can see why you have a reputation in this industry your attention to detail is something special.
I don't generally get this personally involved in other people's projects, but considering how few genuine Olds powered Olds racecars there are, I'm here for it. I remember the old slogan; "Keep your GM car all GM", but keeping and Olds powerplant in the Cutlass is something that hasn't been done in far too long. I can't wait to see her smoke every opponent once she's dialed in. She's gonna fly!
Saved this for when I'm grilling some ribs. Ksr, cold snacks, grill, meat. Murica.
Love the thought process in these Cutlass videos. Show how you run your business building other folks cars!! Awesome!! Again thanks for the race car building class!!! Keep it up!!!
Car is another step closer to completion
Looks good, Kev. Have fun with Clay!
I love those Evolution chop saws, so good at cutting metal.
Hey Kevin. Really enjoying this build and learning a lot from it. Great that you’re keeping it Olds engine! Would be perfect if you included old-school style “Oldsmobile xxx ci” in the livery 😎 Thanks for bringing us along 🙂
Or another great video on the cutlass 😊 Thanks for sharing Kevin
Best part of Sunday morning. Cutlass update!
Hell yeah, another Cutlass video!
Thanks for another great video Kevin! She's coming together nicely! If you haven't already, you'll need to come up with a name for her.
Great update, love these Cutlass Sundays. Your tapping method is a good way to do it, if you had machine taps (spiral flute) you could do it under slow powered rpm as you don't need to back the tap out to break the chip, but for the sake of a couple of holes every now and again your method works great.
Kevin and crew, y'all rock! Love the Cutlass updates. Peace 🤘 ✌️
That tapping method is how I was taught if it's in your lathe, had an old timer in the 90s, who started machining when shit was still belt drive in large scale
I like your story and keep sticking with it ! Nice work…👍
I’m a machinist by trade. We use the same process to start taps. I do the same whether I’m on a mill or a lathe. I always at least start the threads on the machine so I know it’s started straight. I also use the tailstock to hold thread dies straight when o.d. Thread cutting. I start the die on the part and then press the chuck against the die with the tailstock locked down. It’s the best way I’ve found to start one straight
Just popped in to see the progress on the Buick!
Oldsmobile is closer to getting SICK!! I like that power plant you're going with.
I thought you were a good dude, but if you're friends with Clay, that proves it. I've seen Clay since the early 90's at Memphis Motorsports Park. He's never acted like his poo doesn't stink and despite what's going on, good or bad, he has a laugh and will talk to anyone. Good job on the Cutlass so far!
Love the leaf spring cars. Putting adjustability in the mount is cool! I'm building on a 62 Falcon with leafs and Caltracs and I am making the front and rear mounts adjustable!
It would be rad to see a trick titanium firewall on that unit 👍
Titanium.......That's the Brightest *Spark* comment I've read all year 🙊🙊🤣😂
As usual getting it in! Thank you for the inspiration to go work on my turd. About to finish my coffee and get back to it. Just got done with the cooling hoses and am finally wiring in the Holley Dominator! Maybe wire up the pumps and pause to take in my momentary victory. 🤣
love the update. I enjoy how you entertain us and actually inform and actually teach us how these drag and drive cars go together.
Great build ; I learn something with every video. Many Thanks.
Ear Protection:
Howard Leight Impact Sports with Noise fighter Gel Cups will fix your headache issues. Very nice to have a set or two in the garage for other people or if you forget your buds.
I'm really happy you're doing this build. My dream build is a street style g-body.. little stock block 400/500 hp ish.. it's cool to see how you're doing yours. Keep it up brother!!
Great to watch a proper build.
Thanks for the update. Have a great day! 😎
Thanks Kevin!
Really cool to see it coming together brother. ❤
Totally diggin this series!! Looking forward to the next video!!
You'd make one cool shop teacher! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
It's odd for me as someone who did bodywork back in the 70's to early 80's to hear about measuring in thousands, that sort of measurement was for engines and drivetrain only. We had shims and by golly we used em!
Awesome stuff, would love to have a KSR built car one day :)!! One thought is to get a battery pack for that kind of camera, would be one less thing to worry about if it can run all day...
I appreciate you making this as interesting and informative as you can… sure it may be tedious work, but the attention to details just means you will feel that much more proud of the finished product
Thank you for the video. Love the progress. I think soon when you have time do a welding competition video.
A four way tool post would be a nice addition for the lathe ?.Then you could have a parting off tool as well as the facing tool
Good job Kevin
Loving these Sunday videos
Enjoying the content as always, Kev & caught your cameo in Clay's video. Looked like a great time in the hospitality tent. As previously noted, we don't comment much and simply watch and give each video the well deserved thumbs up.
On another note and this is in our wheelhouse of manufacturing - the "rule" in manufacturing is 2.5X the diameter of the thread diameter for proper (acceptable) support on fasteners in depth of threads. Ex: 1" diameter fastener equates to 2.5" of thread depth engagement.
Cheers!
Yep! We made it to Zmax Friday afternoon!
I have never heard 2.5x the diameter for thread engagement. Standard 3/8" nuts only measure .335 tall!
@@KSRPerformanceFabrication We'll be at Route 66 (local to us). Looking forward to it. Yes, nuts for clamping force. Reference something along the line of a rod or main bolt is where the minimum 2.5X comes into design.
@@strykerentllc hopefully I never put as much load through those bolts as a rod bolt sees. If so, it's been an uuuuugly pass!
@@KSRPerformanceFabrication LOL that makes two of us. The head gasket event was one too many but hats off to your skillset for saving soccer mom! Watched it live and hope you heard that ATTA-BOY KEV from Illinois. Cheers!
Using the Lathe to tap a hole is common... the next move is turning it on and allowing it to thread itself.
Even in a blind hole it can be done, the tap will bottom out and spin in the jacobs chuck... then just reverse the lathe chuck to extract.
YES YES AND MORE YESSSSSS
I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos, Kevin. If my financial position ever changes dramatically for the better, I'd like to bring my Ol' man's 68 impala to you. Seeing your work, your attention to detail, attitude; there's only one person fixing it. I appreciate your videos!
When tapping holes you can use a tool that centers on aligns the top of tap. Enjoy your project s very much.
I also use the same method of tapping threads on the drill press.
Hey Kevin you should take a look at the eye muffs. Ian from Full custom garage promotes them and they sure look like a pretty amazing invention.
Good content and thanks....nice progress on the Oldsmobile....👍🔧
Kevin, try setting a timer on your phone that will chime in your ears to remind you to check you camera battery.
Gota love getting a phone call mid voiceover! 😂 I hate when that happens!!!
Eddy reminds me of the class clown that everyone loved.
its funny you'd mention threads and how deep into the nut/receptacle they need to be into. I've always been taught 2 threads protruding through the nut. i'm teaching a lot of young mechanics underneath me that dont understand basic concepts (usps hires literally anyone) like that. i'm going to have to remember your rule for the threaded deck plates and receptacles that dont allow protrusion to start teaching to the new kids to get at least the diameter of the fastner into the threads. thanks for all the little tidbits of info you drop in your videos. its giving me enough false confidence to start considering building my own cage once i decide what to build for a hotrod.
I was taught 1 1/2 times the thread diameter for thread engagement.
Good morning Kevin and KSR crew! ☕️
Like to see them BOP cars out there! Just picked up a third gen trans am to fix up.
Just think we’re one video closer each time to seeing this thing fire up. Can’t wait till that happens. Keep it up as always Kevin
Cutlass = CutMore is a perfect name for it 😂 👌
At this rate the car should be called the Argo, after the ship of Theseus.
Keep it up Kev. Great job with your Cutlass. Love the progress. Totally sick.
19:37 *Kevin: “when you try to fit it somewhere really really tight in a place you had it fit before, sometimes that quarter of an inch makes a big difference”*
My brain: “*that’s what she said*”
😂😂😂
Great content thanks for sharing
4 Wide Weld Nationals brought to you by KSR
Your time-lapse is great. (You say what's important, with comedy 👍)
To be normal..... umm lightning (SWEET)
Dam..... can I be your welder.
Don't say tha much, but dam. Your smart, and I'm a welder.... cheers I guess.
love me some Gainesville bento.
Midtown>Archer Rd>Newberry Road....thats how I have the locations ranked......lol
Yes for more Cutlass
KSR FTW
No better way to get your Sunday going than watching a ksr video
100% agree ear muffs give me a headache earplugs do not
Ship of Theseus? Car of Keveus? It’s still my dad’s axe.
At least 4 threads engagement through the button guess that’s the same as thickness 😊
KSR and Coffee! ☕👍 Kevin, I have the same problem with ear muffs and safety glasses if i use them too long. Think i have too trye some Raycon 😊
Hold off another week or so and there will be another KSR discount code for some Raycons ;)
That sentimental moment of "this is still the same car I drove to high school"
Tail stock Kevin.... it called a tail stock and yes you are doing it the best way 😊
Although I would probably machine your step, drill and tap deep enough for 2 spacers then part off the 1st one, machine your next step then part off the 2nd.... 😁 less steps
At least the diameter +2 threads
SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!
yup half the time i'm at work i just have my raycon's in without anything playing.. keeps people from bothering me and i'm not having to listen to 90+db of white noise from all the machines.
Those holes in the body near the dash aren't rust they're Speed Holes
👍. Years of machine on a lathe all looks normal most would just run the lathe slow and power tap it either way works. Safety id wouldn’t stand inline with the chuck while breaking edges with a file. Take it from a guy with experience used to aswell until one day I got lazy/loss of concentration caught end of file with a jaw and drove file end thru the handle into my hand luckily file handle stopped most of the force it still stuck in my hand. I still have broken handle as a reminder.
Whoa! Good advice!! Thanks!!
Hello Kevin I am a new subscriber but I also have a few words of inspiration...
First of all like many others I'm enjoying the cutless build.
What is on my mind is about your business integration of all present projects combined as a whole will enhance motivate energize and most importantly ramp up your ambition to more efficiently integrate all cars in shop etc.
Ian Graybill
Nice word salad.
