Dude, honestly I don't know many young that are ready to buy this expensive bike. Yes it is great powerful cruiser but one need a solid job to own one.
I test rode one. I'm about 5' 10" 175 lbs. If you're not a giant that is overweight, it's a great bike! I've never been into Harleys, but this one changed my opinion. If I had the extra cash, purchasing one would not be out of the question. It had tons of pull and I was shocked by its handling and braking. It seemed great as a cruiser to me. Comfortable, smooth, relaxing, but easily powers up when needed. Everyone has different opinions. After spending time in the saddle of this one, I can't agree with a lot of his. Oh, and definitely NOT a 'girls' bike.
I’m 5’10 170lbs and i agree with you it’s perfect for me. I bought it brand new at the dealer with a custom exhaust. It’s looks and sounds amazing plus it’s faster than 90% of other harleys.
When you stop and think about it, your ergo issues sound damn familiar... basically a repeat of every rider over 6' tall on ANY stock HD Sporty. Now, I'm 5'6" with a 30" inseam. I APPRECIATE bikes I can even get my damn leg over, never mind that actually FIT me. Being a bit older and with a bad slower back, I don't reckon I'd have much use for those forward bars though. "Clamshell" position translates to me as two hours riding and two DAYS to recuperate.
I wanna see a softail or a low rider s - esque type of bike with this engine. A modern take on classic Harley styling with good suspension and a fantastic motor would do very well I think
I like Spite, he's a great guy but please please get someone else on the bike. He's even kind of telling Whitney what to say in her impression side of things. Her line of I don't know if I'm confused or the bike is confused. She talked about never riding that low, that the sport position but feet out was something new to her. However Spite just interrupts and says it's the bike.
Subscribed bc I was getting into bikes and then my cousin who rode was in a horrible accident that ended with him in the icu and paraplegic. Stay safe everyone
It's not a minimalist look at all! That exhaust is literally connected to the top of the engine and is straight, the only other bike that does that is the Triumph scramblers and these are twice it's size. Also, those tires are huge and the bronze trims are eye catching. Harley's are not minimalist bikes, they are huge and loud. This bike is something though, not my type but glade Harley is trying something new. I feel like the engine was made for the Bronx bike they canceled.
I agree with everything besides that the sportster s "isn't a cruiser". Just because you are not comfortable on it doesn't mean it's not a cruiser. Hell I ride a M109R and I'm not that comfortable at 6'3/4 (just like the guy in the video) yet I still consider it a crusier. Yes I know the M109R is a muscle cruiser , yet it's still a cruiser
Will somebody please slap an aftermarket pipe on these for the love of Rossi haha. The stock Euro5 friendly exhaust on these sounds absolutely lame, usually stock harleys actually sound decent, but guessing they had to go to great lengths to make the EU happy with the sound level to sell it in the EU.
I bought a brand new 23 sportster S last September, absolutely loved it!!! For four days then got rear ended and totaled out.. best four days I ever had!!
I purchased the Midnight Crimson Sportster S RH1250S on Nov 19; never looking back... this bike is sweet, and the more I ride it, the more I love it. Truly, a modern motorcycle for the 21st century, tough, ergonomic, FAST, torque, tech, did I say FAST? and holy cow does it look great! I'm 102 Kg at 6'1" and this bike fits me like a glove... you need to have the preload set properly; fortunately this is easy with the knob left under the seat (all the way out, then 11 clicks in for my weight). This bike is FINALLY the right weight for the power|torque... its not a small motorcycle; other Harleys are too heavy. (needs to be said) The RH1250S is going to save Harley-Davidson in my opinion. We finally have a sport cruiser that has power to spare and plenty of torque in the lower ranges where you really need it in an urban setting or up in the twisties too! Can't say enough, I love this bike! marcus
I’d be really interested to see Yam’s take on this bike. He and I are about the same size and build - and I’m a cruiser (Softail) guy who’s been thinking about buying something sportier and more modern. I was looking at something like a speed twin or even a CB650R but I was worried that the CB especially might be too sporty for me.
Hey Mario, the Speed Twin is an awesome bike! Everything from Triumph is high quality fit and finish...... and you'll get compliments everywhere you go!!!
@@unclejj509 Thanks! That’s kind of why I’ve had my eye on that or a Honda. I know Harleys are old guy bikes but the fit and finish is really good and I know enough that I’m probably a little spoiled in that way. I REALLY like the speed twin hahaha
Ok, I'm not a marketing engineer genius...But Harley could have put a full spec revolution motor in the Bronx and congratulated themselves on the big all win...But they didn't. Reinforcing the "are they just stupid?" thought line..
So all this being said I think you’ve found the comparison to the Indian FTR,especially I can recall hearing something to the tune of it depends on which standpoint you’re coming from; whether that be from a cruiser or from a sportier platform. Neither the sportster or the FTR,again based off this video, fit into the cruiser category or the sport/naked category. Yes the FTR looks more like a naked and the sportster looks more like a cruiser, but they dance the same line. And that line is this weird new class of bike that we’ve yet to fully understand. Perhaps a comparison between the two would help to light the way of this new/weird path. I think both of these bikes know exactly what they’re about, and I think it’s something of an awakening of a brand new class

Yes. It’s still a girl’s bike just like any other bike a girl chooses to buy with her money and ride. Regardless, I always liked the Sportster and its iconic look. Was it in need of an update. Other Big Harley’s with feet forward lounge chair for straight freeways for longer trips. You could add bags and a wind screen on this bike.
I think in a year or 2 when H-D refines this bike more it’s going to be an extremely fun and appealing bike. It’s kinda odd right now, still cool, but just needs some refining
Yea, I'll have to agree with some of you commenting! I'll be frowning on this bike, "if I don't buy one!!" I have really modified it, So making a transition to the Sportster S, would make me even happier! (I'm 63yo) "I will own a Sportster S machine!"
It’s just the right size for me at 5’4. I’m seriously considering getting a sporter s as my 1st bike. Spoke with a Harley dealership and they told me this is a great fit for me and a great beginner bike.
Harley makes a GOOD sportsbike? Now I am really curious what Yammie thinks of this bike but apparently he was not with you there, yes? Regarding the "clamshell posture" that felt weird for Whitney, it can be bought with mid controls if I remember correctly.
The engine was designed for the Bronx in mind, which was suppose to be Harley's sports bike, but I guess they didn't feel like it was ready or their was no market for it. IMO, the Pan America probably wasn't going to sell well so bringing out the popular Sportster name would sell more. If both these bikes sell, they will bring back the Bronx using this engine. Testing the waters.
Went to Sturgis back in 17. At the bar the Bar Tender was telling us, we need more hell raisers like you young guys to come in here. Look at this place, it's a damn geriatric clinic. As I looked around I saw what she meant. Maybe this will get the younger crowds into the Harley scene. Love the sportester, but those pipes make it's butt look big. That would be the first thing I'd change out. Other than that, it is quite a looker. The ergonomics are not new, I have a Triumph Bonneville America that has the same type of ergos. It does feel like a sport bike, until you remember how far forward your feet are. Kind of like the Duc Diavel. I initially thought, how the heck is that considered a cruise..... No way. Then I sat on it and realized the peds are well forward, just like a cruiser. Good on you Harley, nice to step up to the plate with good offerings this year vs the 500 and 750 bikes you put out a few years back.
I am not a girl, I am 5 11, 65 kg, I own an Yam MT09SP, I took Sportster S for a decent test ride (cruise and twisties) , I felt a bit too big, it ain't too bad a bike...twisties were def. more challenging than when on the MT09, the cruise control and six gears wer good for cruising, but ofc it needs a big windshield and more plush seat, but boy is it fast, could barely hold on esp cause forward controls combined with tank so low and flat, limited suspension so it doesn't handle bumps well and the engine/exhaust get far too hot for me in the Aussie summer, I have no idea how I can add a Pillion without burning her legs on the high exposed pipe....I will stick with the MT09.
When is Yam going to give the S a test ride? He's a light weight, but at least he's average height and could give a much better evaluation of the ergonomics.
Given everything you guys are saying about this makes me thing this is what became of the Bronx. The Bronx wasn't cruiser-y enough so they turned it into a cruiser, but I think it would've been better as a naked sport bike.

How can you be disappointed with this review when he literally said so many great things about this bike, he never said it was a bad bike but the ergonomics are bad for tall riders, which is pretty much falls in line with what other reviewers have been saying. Even with front controls he looked cramped. The MX/Miata is a great sports car but tall people will feel cramped, doesn't mean it's a bad sports car. In fact, he praises the engine and can't wait to see what Harley will do with it on other models. He pretty much said the bike is perfect for you.

I’ve got one, am 6’4”. Go test ride if you can fine one? But plan on upgrading the seat to Harley’s only other choice, $300 we’ll spent. As for “gimmicks”, I’m new to riding so appreciate that I can NOT be in Sport mode all the time. It’s frighteningly aggressive and quick. But to each their own.
Dude, honestly I don't know many young that are ready to buy this expensive bike. Yes it is great powerful cruiser but one need a solid job to own one.
You are right. I’m 25 never been into Harleys until I test rode this sportster s. Bought it the next day
"Nothing but wheels and a motor", Damn, it's the upgrade to the Sportster Iron, which I personally loved as a styling exercise.
That's quite appealing that its cramped for someone who's 6'4 because I'm 5'4 so it'll look and feel great on me.
Spite as the butterfly meme with this HD and the Rebel 1100: Is this a sport bike?
Hearing him say it was like a sports bike actually made me laugh.
Seems more like more of a small muscle bike.
This poor guy doesn't know a thing about bikes..
I wanna see a softail or a low rider s - esque type of bike with this engine. A modern take on classic Harley styling with good suspension and a fantastic motor would do very well I think
A Dynabro style bike with comfort, clearance and lean angle with this motor would sell like candy.
Slap this motor in the fat bob and I would be sold
Yes please
We need to see Spite on a Grom or Monkey now.
Also shows that Harley could make a sport naked if they wanted to.
They already did. A XR1200.
looks like HD is trying to get out of their own ass, the engine is a gem, they are into something
then indian drops the price on the FTR and releases a revamped FTR S for 2023. RIP HD
@@franciscometis6103 here in Italy there aren't many Indian motorcycles, HD is much more popular, but not as popular as BMW
And they learned to measure in liters! Haha
@@TravisTerrell it only took them 100 years
5'10 - 210 lbs This is perfect with the after market mid handling for your feet. I understand how being 6+ ft would differ.
Love the minimalist looks. I do not need 1990’s huge boom box fairing.
Minimalist? That exhaust is fuckin huge
The stock Euro5 friendly exhaust on these sounds absolutely lame, usually stock harleys actually sound decent, but guessing they had to go to great lengths to make the EU happy with the sound level to sell it in the EU.
i appreciate the honest review about ergonomics. it's just not made for tall/big riders. this is a beautiful bike and i want to test drive it!
(needs to be said)
The RH1250S is going to save Harley-Davidson in my opinion.
I’m looking at a Z900rs
Hey Mario, the Speed Twin is an awesome bike! Everything from Triumph is high quality fit and finish...... and you'll get compliments everywhere you go!!!
@@unclejj509 Thanks! That’s kind of why I’ve had my eye on that or a Honda. I know Harleys are old guy bikes but the fit and finish is really good and I know enough that I’m probably a little spoiled in that way. I REALLY like the speed twin hahaha
Giant's first complaint is “bike too small.”
There is a break disc missing from the front wheel and the fuel tank is far too small
Dang spite said if your 5ft 5 it would be perfect ergos and here i am 5ft 5 and i think the Bike looks great but 15k is a hard pill to swallow.
Ok, I'm not a marketing engineer genius...But Harley could have put a full spec revolution motor in the Bronx and congratulated themselves on the big all win...But they didn't. Reinforcing the "are they just stupid?" thought line..
Ok, Harley Davidson might not die a slow death after all. Damn, that motorcycle is sexy as hell.
It’s certainly a sick bike. I’d get it in mid controls which is an option. At 5’10 it felt great
So all this being said I think you’ve found the comparison to the Indian FTR,especially I can recall hearing something to the tune of it depends on which standpoint you’re coming from; whether that be from a cruiser or from a sportier platform.
And the first vehicle to pass in the background……is a dude on a stand up SCOOTER. It’s like you’re still in Austin
If only Harley would get rid of the “forward mids” and gave this bike true mid controls…
@Mr Thunder only those forward mids.. im talking about TRUE mid controls. like the foot position of an RnineT or a MT09. Harley mids.. are not mids...
@@RTJsims since harleys came out decades before the other companies harley mids are true mids other bike mids are rear sets and those other bikes you listed are not even in the same category. The sportster s is a bobber type bike like the scout
Add a little more ground clearance & suspension, duel 320 mm disks, fuel capacity and better sport bike ergonomics could well be a decent Harley naked sport bike.
Bought mine last year in Aug. 23. Made mine a bit more like a cruiser. Kept the front controls, added reach bars and risers. Also added a rear fender and a mini fairing. Finally starting to get some aftermarket for it. Corbin and saddleman making seats, plenty of exhaust options, different bars, tail delete, and tuning.
This thing with mid controls and some risers for the bars would be perfect for shredding corners
Any bike that’s not a Harley can shred corners compared to this.
@@alexduey7868 please tell us about your test ride of the Sportster S? Oh, you haven't taken it for a ride and you are acting like you know how it handles. You obviously have a bias against anything Harley even when they do something different but that is okay because guys like you hate what they can't and will never have so much that they disregard it before ever riding it. You sir, are a clown. If you don't like all motorcycles than you are just as much of a weirdo as the Harley Elitists that won't consider anything else.
I test rode one with the mid controls and it really lets you carve the corners. Yea it feels a little bulkier than other sport bikes but I’m sure it’s something I’d get used to with more time. I only had like 20 minutes on it
I appreciate Harleys recent moves. Really liked my rides on the Livewire. The Pan-America looks cool, and the this is a better sportster.
Waiting to see the price on the Bronx.
Have an R3 rn , just started riding . I’m telling you now the Sportster S is what I’m getting next year .
Haven't watched yet, but that's a Harley cruiser design I can actually get behind! (Which obviously means die-hards are out, but perhaps HD can will a more diverse group.)
Looking forward to see your comparison of the sportster against the rebel 1100, considering where both engines come from, it would be a great comparison.
I sat on one this past weekend, just happened to see a dealership and walked inside. i’m 5’8 and I loved how it felt just to sit. haven’t ridden yet, still working on getting my motorcycle license (life getting in the way) but i’ve had a helmet and other gear for awhile. I definitely have my eyes set on this bike
Finally a good bike.. after 100~ years, about time.
YAMMIE YOU CAN REACH 1 MILLION! I'M ROOTING FOR YOU!
Let me start this by saying, I am not a Harley Davidson guy but damn I really want a Sportster S
5'6" dude who currently owns a street rod, I think I may be sold on a upgrade.
Yes. It’s still a girl’s bike just like any other bike a girl chooses to buy with her money and ride. Regardless, I always liked the Sportster and its iconic look. Was it in need of an update. Well sure. Was it still better than the new and ever so homely Rebel? It sure was to me even with all the power, handling and technology shortcomings that Papa Yam 🍠 says it lacked. Now time moves on and long live the new Sportster and Dirt Glide!!!
Spite I don’t think you’re the best person to get on these average person sized mini cruisers because none of them are good cruisers for you haha
You need to get on the Vulcan Vaquero, Road Glide or something along those lines with how big you are homie
Yeah, but Whitney said she felt cramped? Something here doesn’t add up.
@@cwroberts79 it kind of seeemed like Spite told her what to think and she kind of agreed. She said the low position was something different for her and she could feel kind of cramped. I didn't catch whether they had the mid controls or not.
@@cwroberts79 I’ve always felt like that they kind of tell her what to say all the time lol
Hmm you guys are right. They always do kind of lead her like she’s a witness saying what they want her to say.
@@cwroberts79 exactly, because why would she feel cramped like he did lol
Wow, this is a really good review. Thank you!!
I would have liked to hear more from Whitney without spite guiding the conversation. I want to hear her thoughts without influence.
My local Harley dealer doesn’t have them for show, they can get me one with a deposit down but not even able to sit on one makes me iffy on leaving a deposit …
Bro no offense but you are NOT the target audience for this bike for a few reasons.. the most glaringly obvious being your size… if you review a size 10 shoe but you have a size 12 foot, then regardless of how amazing that shoe is for size 10 people, your review will have a negative air about it. Isn’t Yam 5 foot 11? Would’ve been great to get his take on it
Harley’s remind me of gas guzzling American excess SUV’s with huge fairings, loud pipes, and loud 1990’s boom boxes. This Sportster S is an everyday persons bike primarily for around town. Other Big Harley’s with feet forward lounge chair for straight freeways for longer trips. You could add bags and a wind screen on this bike.
Hard to add bags with those pipes
Best analogy yet. `Feels like I should be piloting a helicopter` :)
I think in a year or 2 when H-D refines this bike more it’s going to be an extremely fun and appealing bike. It’s kinda odd right now, still cool, but just needs some refining
Good point.
Yea,
I'll have to agree with some of you commenting!
I'll be frowning on this bike,
"if I don't buy one!!"
My last motorcycle, I would take to the drag-strip, it was an 85 Vmax, that I kept until 2005, when my house burned down, and took my motorcycle with it. Then after I lost the bike, I quit riding altogether till 2017, when I came across a deal, that I just couldn't pass up! An 08 Sportster Nightster 1200 which I have to this day! I have really modified it, So making a transition to the Sportster S, would make me even happier!
(I'm 63yo)
"I will own a Sportster S machine!"
It’s just the right size for me at 5’4. I’m seriously considering getting a sporter s as my 1st bike. Spoke with a Harley dealership and they told me this is a great fit for me and a great beginner bike.
I own one and I love it. This is only a beginner bike if you keep it in rain mode. This bike is a monster!
Dude, buy a cheap old bike first, get your basics sorted on something that isn’t 15k….
That's an absolutely gorgeous bike! Too bad it isn't my fit, physically or financially.
Better than busa?
Just saw one IRL, the coolest looking bike ever. Definitely look all engine, 2 wheels and no bike. Coolest
We need to get the Yammie on the Sportster S in Sport mode and get his honest opinion haha
Given everything you guys are saying about this makes me thing this is what became of the Bronx. The Bronx wasn't cruiser-y enough so they turned it into a cruiser, but I think it would've been better as a naked sport bike.
The Bronx was post to come out along. With this though so I doubt that. However, I still hope the Bronx comes out because I'll definitely Pick one up
I LOVE small POWERFUL bikes. Its either this or the Speed Twin 1200. Can't wait to ride on this summer
I want to see this engine in a Bronx style bike and make it around 400lb max and semi active suspension with much longer travel than the sportster s. Imagine a Bronx that can go toe to toe with the KTM Super Duke 1290!
@@cowmath77 no one said it was going to be cheap, but I’ll concede it’s unrealistic so ~475 lb
@@sl4305 then buy a super duke. There's no point for them to try and get into that market any time soon that bike is one of a kind
@@Ebbeebbeee Why not throw HD into that market. The rev max engine has more potential than is being showcased in the sportster s and Pan America. Screaming eagle and aftermarket exhaust, cams, tunes are just around the corner
@@sl4305 because that's an exceptionally niche bike. Very few people want that much power In a light naked because it's nearly uncontrollable unless you're very experienced, and it would cost probably over 18k and that's a turn off for alot of people especially when the ktm is a v twin so not really a lot to claim over ktm

I’m 58 years of age 170-180 lbs 5’6” height. Been looking at this as a commuting bike as the wife and I already have a triglide. Do you feel my size would work well with this bike? Thank you. Your reviews are amount my favorite when researching new bikes.
Its meant for short people like myself at 5'7". Bad cruiser because its not a cruiser its a sportster
I rode my Sportster S from San Diego to Sacramento but not after a few simple modifications haha
Black forest? Is that where the ham is from?
I ride a 2019 FTR 1200s like your new giveaway. Please compare the sportster to the FTR. Love all your videos.
Compare the 2022 FTR to the Sportster S. The canyon carving is better with the 17s.
Mans said it’s way too small 🤣 here’s my tiny self wishing mine was smaller
That bike looks Is diminutive, I enjoyed my time working at the H-D pto plant in Menomonee Falls, WI having the opportunity to ride many different bikes this is a great evolution of the Sportster it is far too small for me at 6 ft. I thought the Buell Blast was small but that's what you expect, but the Road King is my favorite.
Good to see Harley Davidson investing money in research and development as apposed to chrome and paint. This bike looks good. Water cooled, that's a plus.
Fun video, funny how the person Infront of the mic thinks that the noise is coming through yet on this side it sounds clear.
My first move with this bike would be to get mid controls, the overall design looks like it's just begging for it
They’re a factory option, I test rode one with the mid controls and it felt more “right” than the forward mounted controls
6’1” 210 lb, will I fit?
I sat on this bike at Motorcycle Live, one with mid footpegs and the riding position and ergonomics felt great and I’m 6.3
Man the bike is not small, you sir are a giant !!!
Thank you Spike for proving my point, and I haven't even ridden the bike...
Sport bike? Now THAT'S a stretch if ever I heard one 😂 Very interesting bike tho!
OK so this is one of my favorite motorcycle review channels in all of UA-cam, but I must say I am highly disappointed with your review on this beautiful new Harley Davidson. Guess what, not everybody that’s a subscriber of this channel is over 6 feet tall! I’m a short man, I am 5’5” and I am really excited about this new motorcycle, in fact I’m hoping to own one by the end of the year. Just because a motorcycle is made for shorter riders it doesn’t mean it’s a bad bike! yes it’s a little confused, but to me that just makes for an exciting new approach to riding and a gorgeous motorcycle.
Reviews are subjective, he is giving a review on his experience and it's a honest one.
Make a roadster version with 100hp.
Dual disc break more upright.
Honestly, slap on the mids and this would make a kickass standard or American take on a UJM. Kinda like a jack of all trades. Not a total sport bike, not a total cruiser, not a total cafe racer…
…
…
but it can be if you want it to.
Really reminds me of the Indian Scout Bobber from the riding camera view.
I’m 5’7 @ 150lbs and I rode the Sportster S this past Saturday, it fit me perfectly, but it really just felt like I was riding a V-Twin with 2 Wheels and a Handlebar LOL you really wanna lean in and grip with your knee’s when you crack that throttle 😂
That said, the turn in feel was sketchy AF 😬
Cool bike though 🤘🏻
Although it does not provide much power but it looks like a fun bike and i can imagine wolverine driving this bike in any chase scene .
Not much power... u must be a real bad guy
Lol bro this thing rips are you kidding? 120ft lbs of torque is slow to you?
The real question is how does it compare to a Vrod?
Manufacturers need to make bikes for big guys. Even offering ergo packages like the Vulcan S would be great.
Test road one of these, and probably one of the most uncomfortable motorcycles on the planet. I'm only 5'10".
