    This video showed better process that I had imagined and what I had learned from previous searches.

    Nice tutorial. Similar solution could be do it with "Component > Model in place" tool. Is almost the same, but with this way you can choose Topography category. You would be able to turn on/off with Visibility/Graphics Overrides :)

    Thank you for sharing this trick with us, but this is a simple manual modeling and Revit needs to come up with some sort of "BIM-worthy" solution for this issue!

      BIM stands for Building Information Modelling and the site is not a building. Modelling sites requires different criteria thus different application.
      Best practice for doing sites is toposurface and building pads.

      There is a BIM-worthy solution, Since the "Roof" above the building has to be constructed it should be made out of a roof with freeform modelling functionality in Revit than you got the masses.
      the above solution is not worth its time to be honest

    Great tutorial, as ever. But this just highlights how comically and unnecessarily complex/fiddly even the simplest of things is to achieve in Revit. Things which are equally as hilariously easy to achieve in almost every other software package. Autodesk have so much to answer for. Muppets.

    Good tutorial, but i have a question.
    Could this upset, or create a bigger headache elsewhere if you have other topo surface you need to edit?
    Could it be done with the building pad as you first shown, but then use a massing surface in the missing area above the basement in place? That way, and please correct me if i am wrong, you are only having to make a small surface, you don't need to match to all the existing topo surfaces, especially if you have a heavily undulating site with lots of contours.

    • @balkanarchitect
      @balkanarchitect  4 роки тому

      Yes, as I said, it's not the best solution, it's only going to be useful for smaller projects and simpler topography, but it is the only solution that uses revit tools only. :)

    • @ShmuelAharonKam
      @ShmuelAharonKam Рік тому

      You can also copy the mass and "paste in same place". Use different phases for the two copies. Then change the second copy. Among other benefits, you won't have a line around the smaller mass.

    I tend to leave my topography away in the demo phase, or only show a CAD file. Not sure if that's the best solution..

    • @ShmuelAharonKam
      @ShmuelAharonKam Рік тому

      So you can either extend the toposurface by moving the edge points, or just create your floor without a pad under it (you can also model the pad as a floor if you want both).

    What happens if we exported this file to say 3ds max or blender as a 3d? Does it export the whole thing?

    • @lostGhostAmorphia
      @lostGhostAmorphia 4 роки тому +1

      For 3dsmax it is possible to export the whole model as a FBX-file (be careful to export the standart 3D-view from Revit). There is also a Plugin for Blender, where you can import this FBX-file, unfortunately I don't know if it is possible to maintain materials etc.

  • @loaizable
    @loaizable 4 роки тому

    But then, how do you get quantities from that mass?

    • @balkanarchitect
      @balkanarchitect  4 роки тому +2

      You can get a volume, it's definitely not an ideal solution, but it gets the job done. As I mentioned in the video, it's good for small projects, and topography that is not too complicated. 🙂

    • @fouezdesign
      @fouezdesign 4 роки тому +2

      @@balkanarchitect Thanks a lot for your tutorial first. Let me say that was one of the main issues I had with one of my first projects in Revit as a beginner. But like you said , its a quick solution for small projects and I cant believe that an intelligent software like Revit doesn't have an option for it , I mean site/topography tool is weak in this situation.

    Can we calculate cutting filling?

    • @AussieBIMGuru
      @AussieBIMGuru 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Immi, the best way to do this is using graded regions. Dynamo can obtain solid volumes for most things but not topo unfortunately.

      @immi85 4 роки тому +1

      @@AussieBIMGuru unexpected reply 😄 but thanks for massage😃 i am also using graded regions. but if we use massing (like in this video) then i don't think we get cutting filling volume.

  • @elg1gy

    That was a really bad way of doing it. Involved way to many steps. Just model the part over the underground building as a mass instead and use a pad to cut the terrain.
