In a world, where it is almost impossible to legally play classic games without either using Nintendo's subscription service or paying ridiculous prices on Ebay, the Evercade managed to identify interesting market niche. And just like the audiophiles are currently rediscovering casette tapes and vinyl records, I think that this niche market for classic cartridge-based system can also survive within the small, yet dedicated fanbase.

Like... how hard it is to stick with a game if you have thousands on the same device. Something like this makes it easier to stick with certain games.

I have the EXP, the Hyper Mega Tech one, and the VS. While initially I really liked the EXP, it cuts off the circulation in my hands or pinches a nerve or something, so my thumbs and eventually hands fall asleep. So I feel like that purchase was wasted.
Love the EXP, I'm a retrogamer so this is another great system to add to my collection. It's nice to have the Capcom stuff built in. Demons of Asteborg next for me.
I bought one at launch, returned it the next day. Bad light bleeding, flawed screen backlight, bad ergonomics in TATE, etc. Not worth the price. Will buy one again when price drops 30%+ and issues are fixed.
Good video Pete and get it. I get why some people didn't by in. There's been a lot of faults which have turned some people off. For me I didn't want another handheld but I want to support Blaze and then Capcom really won me over.
i have the og evercade and the VS console and I have no desire right now to get the EXP. The quality control from Blaze needs to be better before I invest in yet another evercade revision
On the topic of couch co-op... if they enabled the USB C port for expansion, you could tehn use a hub and a couple of USB controllers/sticks and play couch co-op on a TV via the HDMI out. Especially for the Capcom games that are for multiple players. I believe this is something they are looking into at the moment, along with button remapping. So in a possible firmware update we will be able to use the EXP as a 'console' of sorts like the VS.

Need more QUALITY retro and indie titles. Need features such as mapping but also taking screenshots, score boards and community etc. I have about ten games and the cheaper capcom handheld. Am watching closely on this.
For me.. I got both the EXP Limited Edition and a Steam Deck. Steam Deck is so open ended, I can't help but be drawn to it to tinker with it and try to get all sorts of performance hacks it. I just got Newer Super Mario Wii to run on it, a fan made overhaul hack for a great Wii game. I can't believe EXP does not support bluetooth. 😢
For me I'm waiting for better hardware revisions. I know about the trigger buttons breaking, screen issues, and battery charging issues. I've been told the current units have all that resolved. So I'll wait for the older units to flush out from retailers before I take the plunge.
Some decent points there. I haven't had an issue with the button mapping, but it does sound like remapping is coming in May. Sound, yeah speakers ain't brilliant. Buttons I'm fine with, the important ones are placed well. Tate mode works pretty well, but it wasn't a huge draw for me. The price point... yeah, that was exactly the thought process I had, but the end result was I got the EXP.
I bought the founders black one, not really used it much as I prefer the original handheld with the VS as a combo. They need to put the classic Evercade theme on the EXP as I see most of us have been forced to use the (UK) Megadrive cover look, the other themes on EXP are too bright meaning the game artwork and text doesn't standout enough. The classic blue to pink fade with that red bar theme is cool, bring it back! 😉
Yeah you nailed it Pete. First I'm not a hand held guy so it takes a lot to convince me to go this path especially at a price that's only a few bucks cheaper than a Switch Lite. The pack in makes it incredibly appealing (and as a VS owner who got the stinky Technos 1 as the only pack in I'm jealous) but it doesn't offer anything to put it over the top and the lack of online co op (especially considering many of the Capcom built in games) is a big negative. I'll stick with the VS. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the new carts and can't wait for the next batch and some new announcements. I'm really hoping the Team 17 collection is as good as I want it to be.
The EXP is too expensive, too divergent from the original idea, too much like mobile gaming complete with WiFi etc and overall just a bit too much. The unit doesn't look as good as the original either as far as I'm concerned, despite the assumed upgrade in screen. The original red and white handheld is presumably now discontinued and leftover stock is hard to find. Selling only through Funstock is a headache also. The VS was hardly out, then this. Fatigue will set in amongst gamers soon enough. May be worth getting some of those cart packs though just in case.

I love my evercade exp, I am lucky enough to have all the latest consoles and a pc with a msi suprim 3090 card, I have a huge library of games from every genre BUT my evercade takes me to another level, a level of enjoyment that other consoles just can not give me. The evercade VS and the EXP are simply awesome, people dont like them because of the older style graphics but the gameplay of the released games is what counts for me. I love it !!

Hi buddy so I love my evercade products I own them all my only complaint with blaze is they need to make branded joysticks spinners track balls all in to support cartridges like Atari games
The cost of maintaining the online multiplayer infrastructure for a device like this would make it unprofitable would be my guess. The built in capcom games were the only way they could get the license. So it was that or no deal with capcom at that time. Have to hope it flourishes into a better deal in the future.

If you need strictly plug and play cause you're not computer literate and don't know anyone else into games, then it's not so plug and play when your console needs an update just to play the newer games. There's no joystick still. There are few classic games. Only the screen is better and it's not that big.There was a promise of indie games and after 2 plus years there are only about 2 or 3 indie carts. A lot of the games have similar graphics and there are 8 bit games with better graphics IMHO. The only good thing is you get several games on a cartridge and lastly, the games are really more often miss than hit. I'm sorry if I offended any one, but I put a lot of money into the original system and have 13 cartridges and only about 5 or 6 that I am mildly interested in playing. One good thing is being able it to connect it to my tv, but even then I have to lay it flat on the table, otherwise the slightest movement disconnects and resets the game. I really wanted to like this but all those drawbacks make it hard to. I realize that I am in the minority needing plug and play but I still hope blaze will consider changes.
Yeah. upcoming releases of past game of the month titles and another home computer C64 , or whatever it is, collection coming isn't particularly inspiring. 2024 going into 2025 will be crucial for Evercade or theres unlikely to be any more Evercade by 2026.
Price is the biggest thing, I understand it had to cost more than the original version but I think they may have priced it too far. I mean you spend a bit more and you can already get a switch lite, so I think to the casual buyer it is hard sell you get into the territory of "I might as well just get a switch lite".

I bought it from Amazon when I turned it on the menu was stock I could not do nothing so I returned it for a new unit the second 1 the left speakers was doing a static noise so annoying so I got a refund the Quality control is just so poor
I love my og evercade and my evercade vs. Love te evercade ecosystem. I have 4 reasons as to not buy an exp. 1: it is more than twice as expensive, fact is it costs as much as a nintendo switch lite. 2: not enough of an upgrade compared to the og evercade. 3:the colour (same for the og and vs as well), my tv is black, my tv shelf is black, my speakers are black etcetera... why in the world would you make it white and therefore stand out at all times?. Black should have been the standard colour. 4: i refuse to pay switch prizes for a battery that lasts half the time.
Im have the Evercade and although initially i tbought it was a good device playing certain games i fi d the d pad abit well cheap and clunky . Due to this i have been toying with the idea to sell my Xp and megadrive 2 mini and put the cash towards a Steam Deck .
i finally got my exp limited edition and i put the glass protector on…it fell off my couch onto my vinyl flooring and crack the screen….not the protector but the screen itself lol emailed blaze and they are sending me a replacement unit after a couple weeks of emails. got the postage report today actually. i enjoy it but i told myself i won’t preorder any new carts til i have the unit in my hands and it feels awesome and premium but it broke so that cut into my momentum for play evercade hopefully it will rekindle once i get my replacement unit in my hands
Great system but awful selection of games apart from a choice selection that’s included with the handheld. So many missed classics and not enough being released quickly enough.

Unfortunately it does have its problem the tightness of the slots are terrible and the controllers on the handheld can easy break too it happen on my evercade exp handheld with the L1 i hope it doesn't happen to the others ones and it's an good thing i don't have to use L1 for most games on the evercade exp since most of them are nes and sega genesis games on the evercade up till now

Tate mode is unusable. Perhaps Blaze should make Tate mode grips. I also have had to stop collecting the cartridges because since the price went up.

It's the apple iPhone mentality. Make it white and ask for as much as they think they can get for their product.

For me the screen they used is old and not worth the price point even $50 handhelds coming out of China have better screens.
