I certainly agree with you regarding violence, however the issue is not with religion itself rather it is with the followers of religion. Not to mention you could easily argue that even without religion there has been fighting and war. The United States invaded Iraq, where over 162, 000 innocent people have died. World War 2 was not a religious based war either. Similarly Stalin, and Lenin starved thousands of people in a state which religion was banned altogether.
[The Holy Quran 16:125] Invite (mankind, O Muhammad SAW) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islâm) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Revelation and the Qur'ân) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.

the ahkam of shariah are: the quran the hadith and ijma(consensus) sahaba. or pious salaf predecessor this are the fundamentals of islam.
