- Hi, thanks for checking out my first video where I tell you a little about myself. In my first year of vanlife I have learned so much that might help others. so join me as I get more comfortable in front of the camera and learn how I do vanlife.
Just found your channel and prayer for safe travels always. I will be taking the plunge next May. So excited to be in the van community. Jan 2024 will be starting a channel showing my build. I am a single 53 year and can’t wait for this adventures.
Thanks for watching. Let me know your UA-cam so I can share it too.
I have 2 cousins that live in NB. I live in ON. There is enough snow here for my liking, I am not sure if I would want to be on the Atlantic coast where it is worse. I am in my 50's too and do want to start vanlife to make more out of life but still have 2 teens home for another 3 years. I am in the same frame of mind as you when it comes to mental health and only working part time. I watch all of those other Canadian vanlifers too. I used to watch Eeman and Bec before they bought their house up north and had a baby too even though they are young enough to be my kids(they are from Toronto too like me in the same area) I am your new subscriber and look forward to watching your vidoes and who knows, maybe even meeting up one day in the future.
Thanks for watching. If you happen to be in the neighborhood I would love to meet up.
Welcome to the 60sq. Footer's. Hang in there. You'll do just fine. 👍 Rock on 🙂
Thanks
Good luck Shelley and many happy adventures in your van life!
Thank you! 🙂
So excited to follow along with your journey. Thanks for sharing this. I think that it's awesome that you had the time to get comfortable in the van before selling your house. Super smart planning on your park. Would love to hear more about the heating set up you have? Is that hard to keep warm in these cold Canadian winters? Looking forward to your next video!
Thanks for the great comment. I will definitely talk about my heat and all my creature comforts in an up coming video. Keep your notifications on.
Awesome. That's great. Definitely looking forward to a more indepth heating explanation. I am a cold person and I feel like I would freeze in the winter.
Looking forward to your videos!
Thank you
I can just see your channel growing way fast! Looking forwards to seeing more. We watch a lot of same channels 😊
Thanks so much.
I bought an old 98 Ford Econoline last year, had it built out to live in,went out west to Arizona but came back to my apartment (I only pay 1,100. a month.but if I get to where I can’t work I will have the van.Even been thinking about continuing to work and living in the van to save money. But it’s hard to find campsites on the east coast.
It sure is hard to find camping sites out here. Good luck
Interesting and thank you, also Canadian & hope to do something similar this summer. Will keep on the lookout for you if I head east. As a single gal, do you have any security backup plans?
Hi, enjoy your vanlife, it truly is an enjoyable way to travel. I dont have any specific vanlife security plans. Just keeping all doors accessible. But I do feel very safe out here.
More options in Canada than US
More options for what?
For parking a van
In US northeast not so
And weather an issue too
I seriously looked into Van Life about 8 years ago. Seemed awesome. Slowly I started to hear some of the issues and these reminded me of living in a van on fishing vacations. Why is it raining inside the van??? Oh, condensation when cool/cold outside. Speaking of rain...stuck in the van for a day or two...not very fun. An interesting video would be a 24 hour stream when raining. Virtually no one would want to watch such a video...even worse is being the person in the van.
Food, always an issue. Your choices are limited. If out in the woods you have to drive to town often or just eat canned, dried foods. That gets expensive.
Don't shovel? You haven't been stuck in sand/mud/snow yet.
1" of insulation...OK, that is technically "insulation", but it's not magic. Better than nothing, but barely.
Parking is getting harder everyday. Communities are not liking a bunch of vans parked on streets not paying taxes but using services. Parking at store lots used to be cool, but as more people used these places the problems increased. Trash, police calls, urine. "No overnight parking" signs are a booming business.
Cost. Van Life is so cheap!!! Nope. Running cost is a lot, breakdowns happen. Vans don't last forever. I can buy a decent house on a good size lot in Cairo IL for $10-40k. Less for houses that need work. That's less than some vans. Many communities around the US in decline to choice from. There are many vacant houses owners don't even bother to list because there are no buyers. Find the owner and make a $3000 offer...they might jump at it. I like Cairo because I can walk to both the Ohio and Mississippi river to fish for huge catfish and other kinds of fish. I love to eat fish so it's fun and lowers food cost.
Then there's the giant issue I've never heard discussed...extreme old age. Many people don't just passed in their sleep suddenly. For most people the passing process lasts for years. Even if healthy into your 90's...being 90, healthy and living in a van seems like a problem. 90 year olds just don't get around as well. So what's the exit plan? Go into a van at 65, what's rent going to be when 80? Rent isn't going down. If you bought a house at 65 the cost of housing stays about the same every year. Ya don't even really need home insurance.
You can still have a van and go off on trips for weeks, months if you like and have the funds.
Not trying to be a dick...just some things I learned slowly over time. The typical Van Life videos focus on rather simple things like showers, toilet, etc... Easy to handle those compared to some of these other risks.
If you have the funds and Van Life is a vacation then cool...super fun. But if it's a person's alternative to living on a low budget...huge risks. And imo it looks to me like the people who get to 60-65 and have a very low budget are people who didn't make great financial decisions most of their life and therefore are least able to look realistically at the cost of Van Life. It seems kind of a trap. And social media sure isn't helping.
I'm sorry you dont enjoy this kind of lifestyle. You could head on over to the fishing channels, you wont find my content there. Good luck.
@@shelleyonthego Wow, different opinions sure aren't welcome. No prob, sorry to have bothered you.
What precious little black hole of discouragement & toxicity.
@@waterbug1135this is her choice, leave her be. I'm sure she didn't decide this on a whim. If this isn't your thing move along. Don't have to come in here giving a lecture and act a damn fool. It's not ur life.
There's always a troll on everyone channel giving them a hard time because they're living in there vehicle. I'm looking for a van/or RV myself because I'm tired of paying $2000 month for rent, I have the savings/826 credit score but I don't qualify for a home!
