Just a bit of explanation:
Soraru used to call his dad 'tou-chan' which is a cute way of saying dad (usually they use otou-san) in Japanese and usually indicates their closeness.
Before Sakata asks that question, Mafu explains how he and his father still use 'keigo' (polite speech) with each other, even during texting. It explains his amazement when he heard Soraru calling his own dad very familiarly.
My Japanese is still limited so I didn't have the confident to fully translate this part! ><
