This story is Episode 10 of "The Misfits" series. I hope you enjoy! If you're unfamiliar with the previous episodes, the whole series (so far) is available here: ua-cam.com/play/PLWl-Jc_I2wPAsngY7MCID9sS_98Y2siT5.html
I had so many things to do on Thursday and Friday that I didn't get to listen to this until late Saturday night. But part of why I put it off was because I really wanted to be able to calmly listen to it, and not between doing things. This was a good one and, as always, looking forward to next week... but even then it might get put off because I have a new refrigerator being delivered.
Wow. Not so long ago I introduced my husband to P.E. Rowe, telling him all his stories are good and imaginative, but it's the Misfits he needed to hear because all those little character vinettes were leading to something much bigger. I really had no idea, because here we are just a few episodes later, with each one brining new characters allies and villains, and a rapidly developing grand story. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this one day. I am so thoroughly enjoying this and so excited for what is to come. Just wow.
Thanks, Susan! It's funny to say as the writer, but even I feel like that sometimes. I definitely never envisioned the Yankee-Chaos touching down in Lime Harbor when I wrote that story, but here we are 😃 Who knows what's next 🤔 Sometimes not me even 😃 So glad you're enjoying!
The last time I read a story (listen to in the case) so interesting that I read all afternoon and all night was about 1974 when I discovered J. R. R. Tolkien and Lord of the Rings. Sir, you are one good writer.
I tried in my teens to read LOTR and got bogged down about halfway through fellowship. I tried again in my twenties after I'd just started writing myself and it changed my life. Same thing. I got about 20 pages into Two Towers and didn't do a single thing until I'd finished the whole trilogy. Mesmerizing. Appreciate those kind words, Alfred 🙏
My wife and I, in our 70,s, are really enjoying your stories. It makes our days brighter and we discuss your story after. I feel it keeps me sharp, watching the "tube" is less stimulating. Thanks for the stories.
Definitely better than watching the “tube”. More stimulating and more well thought out than anything I see on the tube today. Besides I’ve always felt I had a better imagination than any TV or movie.
I'm old enough to have cut my sci fi teeth on the old masters like Azimov, Clark, and Herbert. The next author I found of that caliber is Alistair Reynolds. I place P.E. Rowe in their caliber and Julian Hartsock's journey is my current favorite. Thank you so much for such detailed, cerebral stories and while I have purchased your books, your narration really adds to the enjoyment of your writing. Thank you.
Thanks, C! Sorry I lost your comment down the rabbit hole somehow and just saw it now. Really appreciate the kind words and support! So glad you're enjoying!
Loving this series and the way you put them out every week, reminds me of the "chapter book" idea as used by authors like Conan Doyle, Dickens and Stephen King did with The Green Mile. I hope there is a lot more chapters to go, best wishes from Scotland
Cheers, Paul! I feel like it's a whole new world--the modern campfire story is here. Plus, you can take the stories with you wherever you go. Glad to hear you're enjoying, and love that beautiful country of yours!
Yay more Lime Harbor! It’s one of my very favorite locales you’ve created, it feels very human in its ghost-town quality. Poor Carolina though! I am glad she was able to meet a family member who *isn't* completely insane. I do hope you'll put the misfits out in a physical collection at some point. I would love to have them on my bookshelf!
Yes, Joe! Thanks. I purposefully left all the Misfits stories out of my collections so that I can put out an exclusive Misfits book. Stay tuned 😃 Glad you're enjoying. Things are just heating up!
It keeps just getting better, loved the twist at the end. Again I must say, my favorite story line. Keep them coming and I will gladly ride along. Thank You
Oh, man! I'm not sure I can pull that off in a week 😄 Seriously, though, I think that would be surreal to see a Misfits story interpreted by a filmmaker. Maybe someday! Thanks, Tom!
Your stories, The Misfits in specific but all of them in general, have been a lifeline and a treasure. You sre a treasure! I just discovered your works a few weeks ago and have been binging your content ever since. It reminds me so much of the best of sci-fi that I have enjoyed throughout the years, series such as Honor Harrington, Miles Naismith Vorkosigan, and so on. But, what I feel compelled to share is that very early in my childhood, so many decades ago, I turned to fiction (specifically fantasy and sci-fi) to help me through the very difficult challenges and deep mental hurts I was dealing with theb'n and onward through the years. It became an essential part of my mental health toolkit, this means of literary escapism. I can honestly tell you that your stories are part of that kit now. Not only due they help me move through difficult moments, they also bring me true delight, excitment, joy, and suspense. They recharge and revitalize my spirit. Thank you beyond words! As always, I can't wait to find out what the universe has in store for the Misfits and all the othet characters of the worlds you have crafted.
Wow, thanks, Nyx! I love writing these stories, but even if I didn't such kind words would be fuel for the fire! Humbled to hear you're finding my stories so meaningful and enjoyable! 🙏😃
The part on tthe planet with the spheres, seems familiar, like deja vu, is it rewrite? Did Mycon get the servers while they searched the other Banks? If so why the masquerade?
Thanks, Martin! Yes, a good Deja vu, I hope 😃 This visit to Lime Harbor is the third so far in the Sci-Fi Weeklies series. The other two stories "TechJools" and "Lime Harbor" were set here previously, and this one would echo most with "Lime Harbor." To your other questions...Yes, and Carolina definitely has her reasons 🤔
If you had wanted to include the sound of the body of Orranu hitting the floor, how would you have done it. (How many sentences or words?) Maybe just "thump"?
Hi, Martin. (mild spoilers) I think you mean the yahoo from Montaug? But I'm not sure it would overlap in this, even though it's really close, as the crew runs in the opposite direction toward the ship and the assassin flees back to the marketplace. In terms of the question from a writing standpoint, probably just a sentence in exposition, unless the narrator really wanted to call attention to it. Then, probably a character hearing it and maybe even mentioning it in dialogue briefly.
Hi Mr Rowe! As a new listener, I'm trying to listen to all the standalone stories first. Its a bit difficult to find them amongst all the misfit series. I don't me if it's alot of work maybe for future series you could put it on the thumbnail with thee story title so we can tell if it belongs in a series and what number it is without having to go read the description. Thank you+
Hi, Charlie! Thanks for your thoughtful input. I actually have experimented with this before, and like most things, it's a question of tradeoffs. When I did label Misfits stories in the title, they got whomped in view count (tremendously), because fewer people are likely to click on a title that says Episode 11 on it when they haven't listened to the other ten. But I have a ton of listeners who got introduced to the series by later episodes who are happy they did and never would have been offered the first episode by the algorithm, because it favors new content. In a perfect world, I'd label them, but I'm trying to reach as many people as possible in this venue.
Thanks, Charlie! Your comment did get me thinking, though. I may attempt a playlist of stand-alone shorts. They all started that way initially. The challenge is that the more I keep writing, the more they keep coming together. Lime Harbor was initially a stand-alone story, and at the time I hadn't even conceived of The Misfits, so I had no idea the story wouldn't remain stand-alone, and that's one of many such examples. It wouldn't hurt to renovate the playlists a little, though. I've been doing a little remodeling on the channel to start the new year 😃
I took a stab a the Stand-Alone playlist, Charlie: ua-cam.com/play/PLWl-Jc_I2wPAnRNZgFENz8OwxZKZ9P51Q.html&feature=shared That should get you started 😃
I watch/listen to these entries through a wall mounted flat screen. It is incredible difficult to find any sort of chronological listing of any of these stories through the flat screen venue. Indeed even through the UA-cam via a laptop. One day the entries will be listed in order of date submitted. The next log on is a crap shoot. I really like the reading however it is a pain in the butt to try and find the subsequent story. There seems to be an attempt to group the entries however it is almost impossible to find even when subscribed to the channel. Since I listen to the audio file through UA-cam on a flat screen the listing above is not available which necessitates the need to break out the laptop to find the next entry. If you know of a way to access the url above through the flat screen please let me know. There are very few writers who also are decent narrators. If you are doing both then you are exceptional. Over the period of several decades I have watch this venue mature. I will say out of the thousands of narrators I have listen to through these venues you are without a doubt the best. Thanks for your talents. Thanks
Hi, Bear. For now, I'm not sure if you can see playlists on your setup, but the playlist is one way to get the correct order. I'll also be working on a Misfits page on my website this week. Had a few technical difficulties there that I've just got ironed out. I'm not sure that helps on the flatscreen, but I do have another solution, but it's a few days off and a holiday surprise that I think will solve your problem. Thanks so much for the kind words. I am the writer and the narrator. I especially am grateful for your compliments on my narration. When I started, I had no experience as a narrator and am certainly not a trained voice actor. I've had my struggles and worked at it, so it's always great to hear that the work is paying off.

Nice! The Misfits have become one of my favorite "rag-tag crews," right up there with the crew of the Serenity!
And right up there with the crew of the Rocinante!
firefly was greatness. loved that crew.
I had so many things to do on Thursday and Friday that I didn't get to listen to this until late Saturday night. Definitely better than watching the “tube”. More stimulating and more well thought out than anything I see on the tube today. Besides I’ve always felt I had a better imagination than any TV or movie.
Love those misfits. You do such a good job thanks for sharing. 🤘🇦🇺
Thanks, Dean! Happy to share 😃
These stories just keep getting better and better.
Thanks, Lady Ponfarr! I guess I'll just have to keep writing them then 😃
Cool bunch of space adventurers! 👏
Cheers, Vicki!
I like your narration a lot. You are definitely the best reader so we can best appreciate the narrative 🎉
Thanks, Vicki! That means a lot, as it can be a struggle at times, but one that's well worth it.
I wish I had more friends who were into sci-fi I really want to share this with someone
Thanks, Varvec! That was my hope when I started writing them and now lots of people are enjoying, so here's to a big Misfits snowball in the future 😃
I have the same wish.
The Misfits Universe Phase Two in the tradition of Heinlein,A.D.Foster,Simak and Clarke...💫💫💫💫💫we are enjoying the ride 🤗🕊️
Thanks, G! Stay tuned for Phase Three 🚀🚀🚀🚀🛸😃
Diffidently - nice word. Something you should never be You've created yet another very enjoyable chapter.
Haha, thanks, MrIzzy! I try not to be 😃 Glad you enjoyed this one!
I love The Misfits! I've been waiting for Rebel Moon, and if it's half as good as this series, it's a win.
Thanks, Eric! More Misfits next week as well!

The twists keep coming. Great story telling P.E.
Thanks, Rusty!
Another stellar episode in an awesome series. I so look forward to your Thursday installments. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Charles. More to come for sure. I think we may just be getting warmed up! 😃

Thanks, Leon! Glad you're enjoying!
I read through comments and feel like part of a lovely family.
Thanks, Papa Rowe. ;)
I was wondering when we would get back to Lime Harbor.
We had to, Herbie! 😎Reservations not required 😃

Oh my goodness. What an adventure! I will check back every day for the next installment.
Thanks, Nicki! Don't forget to check in this Thursday. The next Misfits adventure will be up this week! 😃 And it's a wild one 🙃
I never saw that crossover coming, amazing twist! What do you call a story that is a sequel to two different, previous stories? A triquel?
I put in 5 cards to other stories on this one, Greyghost, and I think I could have put more. The technical term for that is a quinqueequel 😂
Loved it!
Thanks, Lara! Glad to hear it 😃
