Greetings and welcome to another installment in the iWish series, a series in which I purchase various questionable products to see if they are any good...most of the time they are not but here we are with another device from Happyhere which in case that name doesn't ring a bell - they have sold me the Sugar Phone, the Digidou thing, Classic Little Brother, the CTYON and don't forget the DJ-1000! Now we should all know who they are :)
WELL...a commenter (thank you @channelname9843) told me about this and I decided to show this off on stream and a LOT of you folks wanted to see...THE SOAP PHONE. I obliged and purchased it, well after I asked Happyhere to change the shipping cost.
So at $58 USD or about $99 AUD...how does the SOAP PHONE perform?
Well with a 1 hour and 20 minute video from me - you better get yourself comfy with some snacks and a nice beverage cause we are going to be washing away the nightmares of WELCOME devices away with the SOAP PHONE!

Thank you for tuning in and I'll see you in the next one (which is a MYSTERY!)

Guys, always remember to wash your Pipi and Ainol with Soap.
What about your pcoc? You still need to clean it lol😂
😂
Don't forget the Nckia 😂
I think a better way to put it is "make sure to wash your Pipi with Soap after Ainol"

A phone with a notification LED. A luxury we all forgot we needed.
AODs kinda killed the notification light
@@pootispiker2866 Well that's an OLED-only feature, so it excludes any sub $200 phones. This being a Tinno phone and specifically the Wiko View first gen, its going price was for sure closer to $150 if not less. Indicator was a standard feature on inexpensive phones for a long long time, because that one RGB LED essentially costs nothing.
I loved notification LEDs, been a fan of having it on my phones since the sidekick 3
@@SianaGearz Nowadays they could just put it in one of those "teardrop" notches, next to the selfie cam
@@und4287 There's space to be found.
There is an optical sensor somewhere in the very edge of the glass that takes ambient light strength, presence and ear distance readings. It really wouldn't be a problem to extend it by an RGB emitter, or make space just like that opposite side.
And often half the speaker grill is decorative, and another half is a waveguide, the actual speaker is hidden further under the display. So it could be integrated into the speaker grill using a lightpipe.
I love it when sketchy sellers call you a VIP. Dealt with this several times reguarding car parts.
17:00 The voice in the ringtone is saying『BB,有人搵你啊』in some sort of non-native-sounding Cantonese
BB="baby" or some affectionate term
有人搵你啊=literally "somebody is looking for you!", but as a ringtone, contextually its meaning might be closer to "somebody's calling you"
Well I must say for $50, it's still a much better option than most cheapo brands.
For $50, you can get SD855 phone in 2nd hand market, at least in my place
@@someoneyouneverknow7529 Used phones are whole different market, and unnecessary risk for someone who simply wants cheap budget phone for basic tasks.

The device locking itsself is Android trying to free memory and CPU cycles by doing everything it can. In some older Android (can confirm this happening on Android 7) this behaviour is bugged and a system application called "System UI" usually gets killed when the system has nothing else to kill, but Android is programmed to reopen it if it ever gets killed or crashes. System UI is meant to be loaded on boot and not like this, as it will show the lock screen as if the device was just been booted. In more modern versions of Android, probably already in 8 or 9, System UI does not get killed anymore in this situation.
Exactly! I've had that happen to me so many times before...
If my device is extremely low on ressources and severely lagging it will prompt me to kill the system process
It doesnt kill the UI but it does kill the Homescreen launcher and it then has to restart the launcher
Wow Google messed that up! Big bug
@@zzoinks ahem, thats android 7. this is fixed now.
@@ios7jbproalso like why do some older devices just randomly cut to the bootscreen? like you're doing your stuff and suddenly it just cuts to black, then the bootscreen appears in its second phase and it just kinda stays there for like 30 seconds
That YT "bug" has happened to me with older devices; if you put the quality to 720p or 1080p and the device just can't run that it will revert back to 480p and won't let you choose higher resolutions anymore lol
UA-cam geting lazy 😱😱
that was super annoying on my old phone, i had to restart youtube many times
This happened on iPad
Both IMEIs show as the Soap R11 from the Shenzhen Sugar Mobile Communication Co Ltd.
This is the case of a phone that the manufacturer has invested a lot of money in, although the name is funny, the company that manufactured it tried to ensure that it was of a minimum quality.
For a mobile of this type, it is one of the best I have seen, all the components are made very well, with its UL code, it is something that I take into account a lot from a manufacturer, it indicates that this manufacturer has invested money and time for that product to be safe.
We need SOAP to lubricate the AINOL, PCOC and PIPI
Its a must have ;)
28:45 that street isn't Russian, its Ukrainian (because of leter "i" and usage of apostrophe) I think it's probably from Kyiv or Lviv
Would be interesting to see this with a custom ROM with a modern Android version.
Dienst Du dem Humbener?
But android 7 is fine for basic use. you don't really need bloaty android 10
"Right. What kind of name is Soap, eh? How'd a muppet like you pass inspection?"
It doesn't seem too bad for the price, but that overheating issue seems like a big deal. I hate phones that burn up in your hand. The idea of using this as a hand warmer sounds pretty cool, though 😂
great comment
17:13 is in Cantonese, translation is "BB, someone is looking for you", but can also be "BB, is someone looking for you?"
Gives "don't drop a soap" a whole new meaning...
The navbar sound effects at 9:07 are pinched from Wiko smartphones
Edit: Nevermind. I noticed Tinno in the device info, which is the ODM of them, meaning that they reuse the same sounds.
And Mobicel
Quite miss this look on smartphones. I prefer that lower-end models just embrace big but proportionate top and bottom bezels rather than shoehorn ugly notches.
It's great for grabbing phones on landscape mode too. Bezel-less screens are not fun to use sometimes...
This was the best looking to me and still had the led notification light. That was huge. Now I have amoled that drains battery when I get notifications 😂 gotta love Samsung
Ringtone is saying: baby, is someone looking for you?
Oh ok
You know its a good phone when the description says "cheap phone" 🤣🤣🤣
Wow this one is quite good for being a $55 phone ngl

Your editing is getting really good at adding that little bit of flair to it whilst still having that old-school style like I'd expect from the old UA-cam days. This phone for the price seems very decent compared to what we've seen from the usual wish and cheapo ali express devices we see. Watching your videos during lunch break working nights at 2AM in the car is a nice vibe as always. Will hopefully catch one of your streams again in the future as it's been a while and it's clear I've missed a few.
The mention of overheating reminds me of the Google Nexus 5 I had (great phone by the way, at least until the 2nd year of owning it for me) it would overheat like to the point where it was kinda painful to hold in certain area and then shut down by itself until it cools down. It's also worth noting that I was into rooting at the time and I had it overclocked which may have ruined it in the long run. Underclocking it did not prevent it from overheating so it's safe to say I did my Nexus 5 dirty.
Sorry but take this fat raito 🥱😪
The Nexus 5 was made by lg right? Maybe the overheating was just a defect of the phone.
@@zzoinks Yeah, LG. Could possibly have been defective, although the mad overheating started after the 2nd year so it was a very reliable device for me up until that point. My sister who also had a Nexus 5 at the time had the bootloop issue after the 1st year though which I believe was also common with the LG G2
Never had it overheat for me! Used it a lot myself. Sounds like a defective unit.
The system ui look similar to color os 3.0 with a hint of default aosp
The effect tick sound on this phone is the same as the Micromax Canvas HD A116, which is rebadged Wiko Cink Five.
i like having a snack or drinking some tea while im watching these. these videos are always relaxing. :)
As far as soaps go; this one was better than "Days of Our Lives".

I was expecting start sound to be theme from Soap (1977-81)
Been a sub for a long while now but never commented... however, that temperature test using butter cracked me up. Great stuff as always!
34:13 amazing reference
They packed the phone in the wrong box. Thats why the difference in in RAM and storage. They sent you the phone adverted on the web page. 3/32gb.
Wrong IMEI maybe, but it's otherwise the correct box as far as the about screen is concerned.
Nice budget phone. If the they'd fixed the overheating problem, you could've played with a more demanding games. And the top mic isn't at good place, but why?
Anyway great video SMOOREZ. I like these in depth long videos.
13:11 That ringtone is called 'Soothing'
You put a custom rom on that phone, and it will work very well.
The hardware of the phone, I was amazed, it has a pretty decent construction, and both the PCB and the wiring have the UL code of the manufacturer of the components, that is a very good thing, because it indicates that the manufacturer has invested a lot of money in that their products are safe.
Based on imei info, the phone has a Snapdragon 430 and an Adreno 505. Not bad at all.
But goes warm by simply existing.
Smearing butter is definetly the best way to show how hot something is. Thanks smoorez, you're the VIP!
About the mic, at least on mediatek devices (tested on an Helio p22 and p60 devices) you can access the engineer menu and set the mic either louder or quieter for the camera, dunno about it on snapdragons.
The top mic detects noise to de-noise the audio in this I think.
Hi! Just wanted to say i really liked the soundtrack you played from Silent Hill 3 & now im gonna listen to the entire album + more! Saw that the artist also made an instrumental (i think) for Edgrunners 2077 anime which i thought was v cool!
But! Regarding the soap video, i really enjoyed your voiceover & photos & videos and you just going on about the phone - it was rather fun & vibe-y in some way, your voice was calming to hear! 😊
Hello there, I love your videos so much, especially when you review some old sketchy tablets (not really all, but some of them). There is no modding or whatever but still, it is a cool one.
It felt really cool seeing my name on the dono thing. Great video as always
The back reminds me of my old Nokia 6, what a tank was that phone
I find it a pretty decent phone. better than those so called welcome phones (saying WELCOME when turning on the phone). camera looks decent as well). though shipping as i checked cost almost the same as the device itself. I dunno if you've heard of the so called $4.00 smartphone that runs on android 5.... nice video SMOOREZ...
It's not a bad phone, just has some issues that do let it down.
Also the seller has the shipping costs at a high price so just message them and they change it. Have done so for each item bought from them.
34:32 It's not russia it's Ukraine, Odesa, and this road sign was made by my parents'. They have small business in Kharkiv.
The phone was sold on the Russian market in 2018 under the name "BQ (bright&quick) Space X"
Should I be worried if I drop this soap?
Depends on how you.... unboxed it

SOAP TRUSTED YOU SMOOREZ
The camera absolutely smashes my Motorola One. Which was a ~400USD phone when I bought it.
Thanks!
For full app compatible id recommend getting android 9 phone or higher

Okay, but why is the Sugar ringtone a banger!!!
For those unfamiliar with the decibel scale, 24 dB is an almost 20x increase in volume, so quite a lot. (20 dB is a 10x increase. 6 dB is a 2x increase.)
I like those sounds, actually. They remind me of old flip phones.

I know there are some Oppo clues in there, but all through this review, this reminded me of my old Redmi Note 5A which had almost identical specs - Snapdragon 435, 3+32 GB, 3000 mAh, Android 7.1.2, 13+16 MP cameras with front and rear flash, and the picture and video quality is very familiar including the poor sound during video - to the point that I wonder if this is in any way related to that device. The only differences are the screen which is taller on this one, the rear camera placement and the UI which actually has a MIUI vibe from back in the day, but it's not the same. Interesting device, though, and a very good presentation!
Ehh I'm getting more Huawei Mate 10(Lite) vibes from it as I own an M10L

This is actually an amazing phone for that price. Obviously the software is outdated but that's a lot of phone for $55 odd.
I gotta say, this phone would've been FANTASTIC for me 5 years ago. $55 is a bargain for a Snapdragon, a camera that good and a display that crisp.
Tinno was (still is?) the brand manufacturing the Wiko phones (sold in Europe and some S-E Asian countries) . This phone actually bears a lot of resemblance with a Wiko model I had (gave it away)

I wonder if your neighbor knows that they have the most recorded air conditioner unit on UA-cam? lol.
I think they just gave you the wrong box and the total memory displayed could indicate that 1 GB is set somewhere to swap onto the flash (my OnePlus 8 Pro from basically the same brand as Oppo does it by default as well).
But looks like a great "burner" phone lol.

Something really annoying about a lot of these Chinese Specials is that despite the SOC being arm64, they still build android to armv7 (and friends).
Some (like the first Wiko Ride) build android in arm64.
But a LOT of the others (I'm looking at YOU Hot Pepper and Stratus!) are armv7.
