  • #pakkam is one of the tribal villages of Wayanad situated near #kuruwadeep The road connecting #pulpally and #manathavadi passes through this beautiful forested village. There is a traditional #watersource in Pakkam that remains as a spring even when severe drought. Keni means #well . Once upon a time, the villages were rich in Keni made from tree stumps. But the wells are getting alienated today.
Pakkam Thirumugam Keni is centuries old. This Well is located adjacent to the forest area belonging to the Chethalayam Forest Range. Thirumukham Colony, the headquarters of the Kuruma community, is 200 meters away. This colony is inextricably linked with Well. It is closely related to the rituals of the Kuruma community. Even their life cycle from birth to death is connected with this Keni (well).
Colonists and others come to this Keni with the hygiene. For Uchal, which is the main festival of the Kurumar, their God comes with a sword and returns to this Keni. When it comes to festivals like #onam and #vishu they clean Keni and the surrounding areas.
This four-feet-deep keni (well) stands as a sign of the traditional water source. The water in this well is like glass. No matter how many buckets of water are drawn, they will be filled again. Another feature is that the water in this keni does not become impure even if the water comes gushing out of the mountain water patch.
As it is a tree-rich area, when you reach Keni, even in summer, you will start feeling cold.
