My buddy, who’s a retired professional fighter said, it doesn’t matter if you can run a 18 minute 5k or a half marathon for mma. Especially in amateur with shorter rounds he said to sprint as long and as fast as you possibly can timed to your round length. Uphill is even better.
I used to do assault bike of 90 second low intensity and 30 seconds high intensity for 16min straight. I havent done it in a year or so. Tried it yesterday. After 8min i was fucking dead. Sprints are extremley neccesary. Getting tired in a fight is The worst. Rather take getting tired on an assault bike than getting tired in a fight.
Well, the sprints that mma fighters tend to do would NOT develop your fast twitch. He is saying 400m repeats with 3 min rest, that's long distance runner's tempo runs 😂
The proper formula for all types of fighters is as follows….pick your road work mile count and then sprint within the miles without stopping. It’s all about getting back to resting heart rate while still working. Fighting is a marathon not a sprint, but you must be ready for bursts.
Me and most people I knew used telephone poles to measure distance for sprints. Once you're warned up, count however many poles you want the sprint to be and go all out for that distance, then pick a number of poles to jog and recover a bit..... Intensity level is whatever you can handle. Example might be sprint 3 poles, run 3 poles, or it could be sprint for 3 poles and run for one.... Again, whatever you can do.
@ Adv he did but not as much as most other boxers do (especially if you consider road work to be lower intensity cardio in general) and he did hill sprints. And he’s not even an “old school boxer” I meant like even older boxers, but still I would say Hagler followed this principle overall
My god, I came. As a boxing coach I keep telling people, while it's okay to jog, they need to add intervals and sprints inn the jogging. Their running sessions should be mostly sprints.
Lot of boxers had to learn this the hard way like Deontay Wilder he used to brag about not needing to run and do sprints until he started getting beat and tired in his fights now he’s back running 🤷♂️
As someone who ran track in high schl its always interesting to hear others say how much they hate sprinting. Though I train combat as well Im no "UFC fighter" and I guess its the same as me dreading it sometimes where thats all they do.
10 seconds jogging 4 seconds pure sprint uphill… high altitude… cold… try my woodsman workout. I’m a big fan of your rampage… been watching you for a long time. Cheers 😊
Sprints are absolety necesarry for stoners too. Nothing expands the lungs like a good sprint, even better if you have weighted vest, all it takes is 5 minutes a day if you a beginner
yeah sprints suck. You're supposed to dread them because you're pushing yourself to your limit. It doesn't matter if you're out of shape or you're an elite athlete; when you're at your limit you are at your limit. I used to do sprints around the track. Sprint on the straightaway and walk/jog on the curves. Each time I approached the end of the curves I was filled with anxiety because I knew the next few moments would suck. but you know what? You do them and your cardio improves dramatically and you can recover way faster.
Roadwork. I do wing chun kung fu. Been doing it since i was 14. Let me put it to you this way. If you watch hajime no ippo, don't even bother going to a martial arts dojo. Go to a kickboxing, or boxing class that does full contact sparring. Learn orthodox, and southpaw, peekaboo, and philly shell, and learn the difference between outfighting and infighting, and then wing chun, the science of infighting will actually start to make sense. The fists are the same as traditional infighting boxing, orthodox and southpaw, but more vertical, like in bareknuckle boxing. This is to protect your hands, and hit sharp, piercing, and heavy, at the ame time, using the 2 knuckles under the index and middle finger. Can't do it with boxing gloves on. Not just in wing chun. I love boxing, but you can throw hooks vertically, and you can even throw uppercuts vertically. Give it a try, barehanded. If you know boxing, try it out barehanded on a heavy bag or something, and watch what happens. A vertical punch always has greater power because of how the body works. The joints, the spine. The spinal engine. Jack dempsey was a genius. Mike tyson used a lot of vertical fists, as well. Easy to transition from a vertical straight, to a shovel hook. Dempsey knew how to use every part of his fist. The 3 knuckle fist, the 2 knuckle fist, as well. You can also use the 2 in the middle for uppercuts, and overhands. This is just how you do damage, barehanded. Easy way to understand dempsey's powerline principle. If you're throwing a straight, your feet should be straight, and lined up properly. Point the feet inward with a wide stance for hooks. Bladed stance for straights and uppercuts, as well as overhands. Keep one foot in front of the other at all times, and try to keep low. Learn the drop step, the dempsey roll, the dempsey double shift, all the classics. This is why soldiers are taught to march heel to teo, and boxers jog like that. Keep your feet straight, in the same direction as your eyes, to start. Practice hook step, point the big toes inward, then practice straight step. Now march. Bring the knees up as high as they can go with each step. Keep the elbows in. Also practice t-steps, for dodging. As an ifighter, these skills are very useful. I'm trying to join tje canadian army, infantry branch. 3 laws of physics: 1. What goes up must come down 2. An object in motion stays in motion unless stopped by an immoveable force 3. Take a water bottle that's half full ans shake it, then make the water spin in a circle inside the bottle. Dumbasses. Why don't you throw your shit at me, like the uneducated monkeys you are? All us wing chun, and kung fu artists are the idiots. Right. Wing chun is the science of infighting. Works exactly like infighting kickboxing, with maily just low kicks, which are easiest and most effective, plus dirty shit. It was originally invented for women and small children, to defend themselves from domestic abuse, rape, and kidnapping. Wing chun knife fighting, dragon pole, and fists all work with the same arm forms. Dragon pole works just like rifle spinning and firing stances. Not answering any comments.
Sprints alone aren't shit......sprint up hill and you'll hate yourself. You want a REAL exercise challenge try sprint climbing!! You ever seen those guys that fly up a climbing wall in seconds?? yeah, that's a REAL challenge for your entire body. Great exercise for MMA fighters.

As a sprinter I think I’d rather do 14 sprints than get punched 14 times in the face. I guess it’s all perspective.
Lol I'm a fighter. I'd take 14 rounds of boxing over 14 sprints 😂
14 punches in the face is easy, you don't have to do anything! 😂
After getting punched 14 times, I might be able to keep fighting. After 14 rounds of sprints, I won't be fighting anymore 😂
LOL, I way prefer live to sprints. I do prefer sprints to conditioning, though. Live>Sprints>Pullups>Pushups>Rope Climbs. Still, gotta do everything.
whatever you don't do often is what is hardest

Same here!
Sprinting is not fun because if you push yourself right you will never get used to it. Sprinting till or almost vomitting every week is terror.
I’m going to learn to love sprints
That’s how old school boxers used to train. They didn’t do “road work” they alternated sprinting and walking and/or running up hills and walking,

Best running for mma sprint the straights jog the curves
Everyody need sprints but also long low harth beat exercise and also musckle training and some movement and balance etc.
Used to sprint 400m rest about 30 seconds and go again. Then after I got really fit I'd do 200,100 and 50. Squat jumps to finish
When?
