As someone who was a victim of SA, stayed with toxic abusers, and chose poor coping mechanisms and facades I adore Angel. I feel seen and represented.
The people who've never experienced something like this need to shut their mouths and stop yapping and let people like me decide if we like this kind of representation or not, and it will be subjective to every single one of us as we all have different stories. I made them SUPER uncomfortable.
Then of course in the online space I was allowed to be hyper nasty, and I became known for that for YEARS. It took me a long time to realize I didn't actually LIKE being that person when I kept angrily telling everyone I wasn't just a piece of meat and to be kinder to me.

@@chicapizza29 Yeah, it definitely hurts, but at the same time, as I said, I adore the representation. TW// A 15 year old girl started pimping me out when I was 8 who was every bit as aggressive, nasty, and manipulative as Val. Shes a p*do too because she continued this behavior when she was 21 and I was 13. I still won't say her name online because I'm scared she'll come back for me. I'm 20 now. I'm scared to pursue an online career because of her too. I have like- this dumb irrational fear that people will side with her because I was a mean nasty kid who said mean nasty things to people to cope, and like I said, I was hyper sexual, and nobody likes 'that bitch'. It's morbid how often I hope she's drank her way into the grave by now. I'm scared to check. I hope she's gone so often, along with her minions who tormented me. It's important to spread awareness of these things. Angel is just the tip of the iceburg.
Child on child and female on female SA and harassment is a huge issue no one addresses sadly.

If the violence isn't being fetishized or disrespectfully shown then there's no reason to attack it. The shit exists and it needs to be shown. Treating abuse like a taboo that media shouldn't highlight is doing current and future victims no favors.
I imagine it is viscerally uncomfortable for victims. It's uncomfortable even for non-victims. But avoiding topics because it makes people uncomfortable lets things like this fester and benefit from collective ignorance.

I'm a survivor and I love Angel's character because being hypersexual is an actual coping mechanism and I like that they don't romanticize it, they show the painful reality of it. for me personally, hazbin hotel is the first show I've seen where the survivor is treated like a person, not just sympathy points for the plot or "look SA edgy haha". never thought I'd see an adult cartoon take traumatic topics seriously but Viv did that and I love her for it.

I actually really appreciate when, in fan content where they make porn that, in a sense, romanticizes things like this, they give some sort of note about it being disgusting, horrible, and just downright abusive in real situations and that if any viewers are going through something similar, should try to get out of it however they can. It's when people avoid that, get defensive, or just don't acknowledge it in some way when I get triggered. As someone who, I guess, became hypersexual instead of sex adverse, I always immensely appreciate seeing those notes or side comments on explicit fan work that, ya know, acknowledges the reality of it.
People have their kinks and fetishes that I don't mind them indulging in, especially in the fictional sense, but it's very important to acknowledge (repeating a lot of words, I apologize) those realities, especially if it's not fan content and it's official stuff, and I think there are a lot of shows and movies with that problem where they romanticize really fucking toxic relationships and even abusive relationships. It's disgusting, sickening, and harmful. I will forever love Hazbin Hotel for how they handle these topics. It's so real in a painful, yet comforting way, if that makes sense?

I have noticed that when SA is shown as a traumatic experience in video media people get mad
And the Hypersexual nature of angle as a way to cope is a perfect choice, From my experience in the creepypasta fandom, when it comes to victims of SA sometimes they link asexuality as a direct after-effect of the trauma, (which very well can happen) but it angers me when they change a character too much to center on this trauma like always trying to shift the story to cover the Incident in Roleplay scenarios or trying to Gatekeep a character that was pre-written a way that contradicts their headcanon
When properly written PTSD can be a great Driving Factor for character building and even healing.

He realizes that Angel is the best leash he has to control her actions and uses him that way.

And yeah, the thing is Charlie's actions here were very well meaning, yet good intentions are rarely enough on their own and in many cases can actually make a situation worse. Charlie managed to accomplish two things with her actions, and neither are good; 1) She's basically made Angel's life even more brutal because there is no doubt Val is going to take this out on Angel even more in the future; and 2) Charlie has shown herself to be weak _through_ Angel. She could have all the power in the world, but Val now knows for a fact that so long as he has Angel Dust under his thumb... Charlie won't be able to do anything.

One thing no reactor has noticed, Angel likes Charlie so much that he'd rather have Charlie hate him for telling her off than for Val or anyone else change Charlie's innocent or naïve outlook towards others. "Just don't hurt her", when in reality Val couldn't touch her even if he wanted to because of Charlie's Royal Status.
That said, Val's comment on how he could make Charlie and himself richer than Lucifer himself speaks volumes on how disrespected the Royals are at least on the Pride Ring. This probably is related to how Lucifer lets the Overlords take control of the city doing whatever they want. As such, the Overlords would view Lucifer as somewhat of a coward ever since his fall.
But even if my conjectures would be true or closer to how Vivziepop wrote the lore of the series, at the end of the day Val is just a Sinner and Lucifer is still an Angel and has power over him. We don't know the circumstances that lead to Charlie wanting to not use her Hell Born Powers against the Sinners, but the only way they could hurt Charlie is to break her spirit. Make her resent the sinners and abuse her powers, making her own the Princess of Hell title.

So unless charlie can make val release his soul (which idek if its possible for overlords to leave souls willingly, but i guess since husk gambled away the ones he owned presumably) angel is literally stuck with val and can't leave

It bothers me that some people are saying this episode glorifies abuse. Like no, no it doesn't. It is a very good representation of how it feels and what it looks like to be in an abusive relationship. I would know because I was in one from the age of 14 to 21. And a rough one from 21 to 25. Went through a lot of mental and physical abuse, got cut open with a knife really badly, lost a lot of blood. Got told for years i was not attractive by my bf. Have been beaten and stabbed multiple times. I have quite a few physical scars over my body and even more mental ones.
I turned to alcohol and drugs to just numb myself to everything that was happening. And for a while i thought i was the terrible person and it was my fault people were treating me like that.
But on with the original point I was getting at: i love seeing uncomfortable truths being depicted accurately in media, especially things that i have personally experienced. Because it helps to relate to the character more and gets you more invested. In my case, angel dust is the character i relate most to, its not perfectly spot on but close. And yeah, i get legitimately uncomfortable watching the scene and everything between him and valentino. Its uncomfortable because it is accurate, and i think its good to accurately portray dark topics like abuse in media. Because people can see it and be like yeah this is what happens, there are people who have lived through and survived stuff like this.
So yeah, i feel like i have a pretty good position to be able to talk about this, seeing as i have experienced it myself for years. Yes it is an uncomfortable topic to address. Is it gloriying abuse or being offensive? Not at all.
And to all of you who have also been through things like I have: stay strong, the scars will never go away, they do get easier to deal with over time. Especilly if you go to see a therapist.
    Be safe yall ❤

I've been dealing with this kind of abuse from a long time... Like being violented for the littlest stuff, basically terrorized into submission like "how dare you fight back i own you you're gonna do what i say or I'm gonna fuck you up"
And it sucks because....i takes an insane amount of strength just to fight back, even a little, before the sh!t swallows you again and then... The cycle repeats and you start to slowly break and loose hope..... You feel like you have no freddom, you have no will on your own, basically you feel like someone else's toy. I know there's some exageration into this but that dressing room scene really triggered some deep ptsd alarms on me, that scene was written from experience.

Someone tried it with me while I was having a panic attack triggered by depression, because apparently it had helped with his friend, and I literally almost jumped out of the car while we were on the interstate. So maybe that wasn’t the best situation to tell someone to “get your shit together,” as that was what I was currently struggling to do.

There's a cute acronym that I learned in therapy as a kid called NCAT
    Name the problem
Claim the responsibilities of the problem be it others or especially your own
Aim it. As in set up goals/solutions to fix/heal from the problem
Then finally Tame it by actually doing the solutions.
Obviously in each step of that kind of process it's going to be difficult. And it's going to take a while to fully get around to each step varying from difficulty of the situation.
So if anything I feel like Husk is helping Angel to cope with claiming his mistakes because he already knows his is responsible. Husk is literally pulling Angel back up on his feet so he doesn't fall back into the pitfall of helpless despair. I feel like this is a good step in the direction for redemption. By this I mean For Angel to redeem his self worth to himself. But obviously it's going to be a struggle. He and anyone else relating to his situation need outside help along side the victim realizing that they deserve/need that help.

One of the hardest premises that they showed in the show was how Angel was always looking for death when he got off his high and dropped into a low. You can especially see it when he came back from work and was yelling back at Husk, he was literally about to go feral (as you see all 8 of his eyes pop out) and Husk was literally summoned by Alastor so Angel knows he's not some push over and he could probably definitely handle him, maybe even end him but he hit his head and just left it all. Like these moments are so moving that they really deserve to be seen because not everyone has the luxury of living their lives worry free with out such manipulations

I bawled when I watched this episode. I could see myself in Angel's shoes, faking being alright and desperately trying to find a vice to help me forget the pain. It took 7 years for me to finally get brave enough to leave, and it nearly destroyed me. I threw away my college degree despite being so close to my bachelors, threw away my freedom, gave up on the few things that made me truly happy, and went right back into that kind of relationship because it was all I could comprehend my life being. By the time I divorced the second guy, I was just so numb and tired of everything that I simply disassociated. It's amazing how we can function like that for extended periods of time. It's taken years of patience, therapy, medication, and a stable environment to get out of that frame of mind. It's a daily battle with my mind, and I still get nightmares despite being 15+ years free. Kinda sad it's taken me being near 40 to finally admit that I am okay with who I am.
For the ones still deep in the trenches, we're here when you need help with the weight of everything. Can't fix it for you, but I'll share every little tidbit that's helped me if it means it could help you too. Yeah I'm a loser, baby, a no-good washed up loser, and that's okay with me.
