- FTL might be one of the greatest indie games ever made. It's also got an absolute banger of a soundtrack. Enjoy my descend into insanity while I review Faster Than Light.

It's weird how you just appeared on youtube and started producing quality reviews out of nowhere
I'm an enigma. Nobody asked for me to show up, but I'm here now and there's nothing you can do about it.
FTL is one of those games I never uninstall - doesn't take up much space and there's so much replay value. Into the Breach was good but I don't really enjoy those types of turn-based games.
It's funny, I just downloaded FTL again on a whim today after not touch it for about 5 years. Had never beaten it. Got the most ungodly run in existence. I hit like 4 cloaked weapon caches in a row towards the mid-game. Weapon pre-ignitors, 1 of each type of base game species crew member (+ an extra mantis and 2 more humans) 2 burst laser II's and breach missiles. And I absolutely nailed the flagship, had no idea it had 2 MORE phases, and beat those too and man what a feeling that was. FTL is so good at telling a compelling narrative with just a few panels of text and a bunch of ship battles it really *felt* like a victory.. Especially after 5 years. Great review man!
"Hi, welcome to FTL where everything's on fire and I'm terrified"
Quote of the century. Describes Flagship phase 2 and 3 quite well.
Completely forgot all about this game until your review, thanks for reminding me :)
This game was the first game I bought when I got my own gaming PC. Lost my mind trying to get all the achievements and scenarios necessary to unlock all the ships. Then just sort of felt lost when I got them all. Been looking for that feeling ever since.
Try star trek online imho it's better
The slug event where he asks about the moons is hilarious karma to everyone that skips through dialogue boxes because if you take a second to read it you get rewarded. Very clever of the devs for that
Sick! FTL is one of my favourite games ever, and I don't even like roguelikes. This game is just too good, and I agree - the Engi ship type B still gives me nightmares
Very good review. I love this game so much. I was a little disappointed that you didn't even touch on one of the greatest videos game soundtracks of all time. I find myself putting it on anytime I am studying or working on a project.
Imagine my face when I finished editing and realized I hadn't talked about one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time. It came down to a time issue and getting the video out. Littered my favorite songs throughout to give people at least an idea!
Top shelf review. Keep up the good work, you have a gift. Subbed.
Very well put together review on a game I love. You've earned a sub my man.
Thanks for the support!
Very good review. I liked the humour very much. Only thing I would add is you should have talked about the soundtrack. In my opinion one of the best game ost's that I have heard.

FTL in a nutshell.
BLIII best burst laser? (x) Doubt. BLII>BLI>BLIII
Just wanted to say your videos are extremely entertaining, and I genuinely had no idea you were just starting out on UA-cam until I looked through all your videos. Nice work, subbed!!
Much appreciated my guy
Wow this is some quality content. I have a feeling you're going to be big
Really good review! Also, I feel like youre bound to review ror as well, haha
Ps you remind me of mandaloregaming
I have 363 hours into this game and I fucking love it; one of the greatest video games of all time. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with this whole video; even with all my experience I have only beaten the flagship with Engi B once on hard, and that was the most miserable asshole clenching run I've ever experienced
5:45 ftl has one of the best game mechanics I've ever seen in its gameplay loop and design it's something the game doesn't even have coded in but lays in the white space of the game design. FTL has elements of resource management fuel, missiles, drones, scrap, power, systems, items, crew. but the most important resource is attention. because the game let's you pause it goes from being an unmanageable real time mess to being a stressing but controlled experience. In FTL your choices directly impact your game play if you are bored with just firing lasers get a crew teleporter, if you hate getting bombarded with missiles get a defense drone, if you are overwhelmed with a scenario next time you can always make it easier for you without the game telling you how much you suck. You can cater your difficulty very easily without punishment just based on the choices you make.
IDK how relevant FTL is to you now, but I recently recalled that there is basically one FTL-like made: it's called "Convoy". It's a lot more Mad-Max-esque, where you lead a fleet of cars on a chase, but it's similar enough to be viewed as being a part of the same genre.
I completed the 'missile only' run twice. The first one I did was in an LP of it and I got accused of save scumming because it was in segments. That's because I recorded it in chucks first, thinking to upload it in sections and then later just put it more together.
The second time was a full live stream to prove it wasn't cheating :3
It's still here on youtube in one of my playlists if you want to see how interesting using only missiles gets, and what different choices you make due to it.
I believe I am the only youtube uploader and streamer who ever did this.
To anyone loving FTL I can really recommend Tharsis. Smaller in scale but very similar in terms of tactics and chance.
4:31 burst lazer III is not the best its quite the opposite its one of the worst due to its 19 secs of charge
You’ll hit 10k subs by the end of February
I can tell this channel is gonna be good. definitely gonna sub
this makes me want to play FTL instead of work on my American Lit/Comp assignment
May I mention that another thing that makes FTL even better is the mod support with all the overhaul mods which are basically free expansions? You have Captain's Edition, which cranks the roleplaying potential up to 11 and also makes it even more difficult (you do have Captain's Remix if you want both aspects a bit toned down), there's A Strange New Galaxy which changes the lore and adds a ton of original new ships and encounters, Arsenal + which despite it's name is as big as Captain's Edition but less asfixiating, and even Stations Job which lets you command a Space Station instead of a ship.
4:26 You fell for one of the classic blunders!
Lmao I just stumbled across this review and had literally the same thought at the same moment, wassup alcom
@@IntrusiveThot420 😎
4:45 yeah FTL has a special tier list. the only thing agreed upon is glaive beam is hype, and burst laser 1 is underwhelming
1. Man, this video is so well made, it surprises me it has this little views
2. I'm surprised at how intuitive this game is. With most 'complex games' I play, I end up going to the wiki after a very short while, but with FTL, I haven't feld the need to once.
Surprisingly, top players have done 30+ game win streaks on normal difficulty while rotating ships (without going for any specific cheese builds or strategies, just generally the strongest ones for each ship / weapons that come along). In this sense, I think it's one of the most perfectly balanced games out there, and is far less RNG-dependent than people like to imagine. But yes, the bar is set _insanely_ high.
It’d be great if I could watch this video with my kids dude.
Keep in mind this game was made in 2012
11:05 FTL needs a fast forward please
Yeah, same.
For the record, I thought you were right. Bloodborne is never coming to PC
@@Nickyeah Lol thanks, hopefully Sony changes their mind about that though. Awesome video btw, and I also really liked your Empire at War video, gonna be picking that game up again.
Idk about other players but after a while i just refuse to read most of the flavour text before fights. I can generally understand the event by looking at the answers. It was cool for like 40 hrs.
And if you’re a good player you almost never turn down a fight, scrap is just too important.
God i cringed when you sold the flak for the bl3. Good vid but the game isn’t that difficult. After a while you learn when to buy systems and what weapons to buy, sell and always avoid. Don’t be put off by the difficulty. I got 300hrs out of this game for 3 pounds.
FTL is glorious but the music, the music went unmentioned in this review. How dare you!?
From what i have read the game will not work on a current computer, on Windows 10, so what is the point of getting interested in a game that doesn't even work anymore?
Why lie?
its not that difficult , for me its kinda easy on easy difficulty
science & physics channel sure, I played 45 games and one only once
@@SaadTheGlad sorry about that older comment i thought u were someone else , well , u should get better , listen to tips , watch streams look at the wiki .... u should improve , watch the ftl guide run video its a 2 hour long tutorial on a run , its easy
11:29 It's *an* incredible value, like what, goodness? Fairness? What indefinite value are you assigning the game in that sentence?
That's like saying that's *a* good weather today. Maybe in other languages, but in English those are no article sentences. Something is either good value (for money) or it isn't. Most so-called native speakers of English apprehend that kind of basic grammar as toddlers from use, but most non-natives need to be taught that. Sadly I just keep hearing especially US content makers use this terrible grammar and diction in their videos all the time, and it marrs the enjoyment and immersion in such monologues.
who tf asked
I Love me some FTL. if anyone wants to highten there FTL gameplay, then i highly reccomend getting into modding FTL with the Multiverse Mod. I cannot compliment/recommend Multiverse enough because it just an outstanding addon to an already incredible game. would reccomend a guide to install or hit up the Multiverse discord server. We're all friendly too! #BEANS
