    I absolutely love the Rumba. I know it’s the Achilles heel for anyone on strictly but it’s so beautiful.

    Your dedication to the dance is clear, but there are several key aspects that need improvement. First and foremost, it's crucial to learn how to keep your back straight and avoid protruding your stomach. This will improve your posture and add grace to your movements, and also prevent your free leg from becoming weak and unattractive.
    When performing a 'brush,' move your foot through the sixth position, brushing close to the other foot with the ball of the foot, not the heel. This will add more elegance and precision to your movements.
    It's important to evenly distribute your weight between your legs and avoid falling onto one leg. Not only does this maintain stability and strength in your movements, but it also ensures that your free leg remains strong and aesthetically pleasing. In partner dancing, maintaining a shared central balance is critically important for harmonious interaction.
    Avoid putting too much weight on your heels to prevent the dance from looking heavy and to keep the hips from dropping ungracefully.
    If your feet are hitting exactly on the beat, it might indicate that the rest of your movement and artistic expression are lagging, creating disharmony. Strive to ensure that each movement is filled with meaning and emotion, making your dance not just technically accurate but also emotionally expressive and harmonious.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  3 роки тому

      Thank you Greg for your question. This is routine made from membership figures (basic figures described in technique books). Most of these figures are not suitable for beginners.

    Is hyper extending your butt outwards and hip swaying required movements? I have no butt, so this won’t work for me.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  Місяць тому

      Demonstrators Marts and Tina are top level dancesport competitors and movements you see are required for competitions at such level. You can learn step patterns, use a long spine with natural hip movement.

    Hello eglis,
    I' d like to ask you a question and hope that you can answer it.
    I first started dancing one year ago as a hobby and at the moment it still is. I really like dancing and because of that i thought about dancing in tournaments. I am 15 years old, do you thing it is still possible for me be as good in dancing that I could go to turnaments?
    Thank you for your tutorial videos about dancing, they are great!

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  7 років тому +3

      Hi joke yolo, thanks for your question. There are dance competitions for different level of dancing. So without question you can participate in comps. Find dance trainer / teacher who can prepare you and take your time. When teacher thinks you're ready just go and compete.

    Hi Eglis! Thank you for such elegant routine! What's the difference between Spiral & Curl? They seem very similar to me.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  7 років тому +1

      Hi Kendra, thanks for appreciating our dance video. Spiral and Curl are similar figures, but there are also differences. Main diference is in starting position. Spiral we start from Closed Position (like Closed Hip Twist); Curl we start from Open position. Hope it helps.

    Hello, Egils Smagris, I really learned something very important today, counting with the shifting of body weight from Tina, not so much from Marts though. I always count 234 but not 1, a good teaching from Ballas with Slavik's talented dancing, but the shifting of body weight is shielded mostly by the clothing... not this time though. I can see Tina's leg movement very clearly with the counting of "1" announced. Now I am going to digest what I have learned today. Thanks. George Wu, AIA, ARCHITECT,NCARB 2017-724

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  7 років тому +1

      Hello George, thanks for your insightful comment. Technically you are correct - foot rhytm is 234. But somehow I prefer count also 1, and it refers to body therefore. I write 1 in parenthesis like 234(1). Egils

    • @georgewu5
      @georgewu5 7 років тому +3

      That is why I know you are also an excellent teacher ! Being in Latvia, I already assume you are an excellent dancer yourself, because the Russians are excellent Ballet dancers traditionally. Being around the excellent environment would give you the advantage of the classical and correct direction to develop the beautiful dancing. Here in New York, very few people care about international Ballroom dancing, Learning a few commercial dancing techniques from Arthur Murray, they thought they are the best dancers in the world. Sad. Egils, this is just wonderful. It is very exciting and inspiring to see basic steps executed so elegantly.
    If I learn this beautiful routine well, would it be reasonable to expect that I could use it with a competent follower even if she is unacquainted with it? I am thinking of social dances.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  7 років тому +2

      Yes all these basic figures are possible to lead. Although I would suggest start with part of this Routine ( as it's quite long), and then gradually go for whole Routine.
