On our way to Tema we visited a local chop bar to have an authentic Ghanian street food called red red or bean stew. So far out of all the dishes I've tried, this one was the best in how balanced and easy it was to eat. As a Jamaican, I especially enjoyed the large pieces of fried plantains to bring a bit of sweetness, to the rather mellow, buttery starchy taste of the beans. IF YOU KNOW THE NAME OF THE RESTAURANT, please shout it out, Eddie didn't know of one.

Ghana 🇬🇭 Is My Life My Husband Is Ghanaian As Well Enjoy
Aaww, u brought tears to my eyes, when u were talking about the ladies cooking and singer, and the way it made u feel spiritually! No, u are not wrong at all to feel that way! U would visit all kinds of places in the world, but u will never FEEL that feeling u just had! That's called being at home finally! Safe and good travels! Take in everything!
Thanks so much.
Yes, it was a beautiful experience like none we'll ever get in the West. Even more so because you're there, hearing, seeing, smelling, feeling your surroundings👍🇬🇧🇯🇲🇬🇭💝🙂
That bowl has all the things I like. Nice !!
FYI DONT eat with your left hand in Ghana. Don’t hand anything to a Ghanaian with that hand either. Its only used for personal hygiene tool. Even if you are left-handed!
Well done guys on exploring different cultures. I'm a Jamaican living in the UK but I also visited Ghana and I think alot of their dishes are very similar to Jamaica food just cook different. Try their Waakye rice and beans with red stew/meat & (Shito Chill Sauce) it's also like Jamaica rice & peas, its nice that's my favourite Ghanaian dish. Enjoy ur stay bless up🤗🙏🏽
That combination sounds goood, I love shito sauce
@@SOAIVLOGS yess u & the misses will love it & don't forget to try the jollof rice, plantain & fish.
yes! it basically is the same ground Provisions just prepared and seasoned Differently. GARI IS Cassava!! Cassava is eaten in Jamaica and used to make “Bammy”
@@ladyghana5603 absolutely 💯
That dish looked tasty. Can't wait to visit the motherland. Thx guys. 👊🏾🇬🇧🇯🇲
🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Please kindly mention location so we can enjoy ourselves in future, thanks
Love your channel. Wonderful tour of Ghana. My parents were Jamaican. Although my dad was born in Cuba. Very similar these countries are. The food looked amazing. Never tried Ghanaian food before. Will now. Enjoy the tour🙏🏽🙂
Big up Steve & Jilly 😄
These videos go a long way to boost Caribbean/African relations much better than politicians can ever achieve!
I get the same feeling from Ghana like when I am watching a vlog from Jamaica...HOME..
Gari is _farofa_ in Brazil. A staple over there.
Ur right
Yall got me ready to pack my shish n come now. I love ❤Shout out to Eddie for being escort with you guys. And Nana! All of you, Thanks for sharing. Traveling grace 🙏🏽😌
Awwww I miss home😔can't wait to watch the rest of our delicious food😋😋😋Thanks for sharing 👍
Red Red breakfast Lunch & dinner all for champions.
If you try it you'll be hooked, pls add some complimentary fried plantains or kelewele.
Thank me later.
Bless up
Watching from Sydney Australia
It's called Red Red because the fried plantain turns reddish after it fried, the palm oil cooked with the beans, is Red, so the whole meal looks reddish, so we call it Red Red! The GARI is a product of Cassava. I hope u know Cassava as a Carribean person. I dont know how u call it there. The cassavetes is peeled, grated, all the starch is squeezed out, and the remaining white fluffy flaky product is dried and roasted...and it becomes tiny little white grains.
Cassava is same as Yuca
When you have time, please take a bite of raw ginger. Even Jamaican ginger can’t compare. Its like biting into fire. lol. Extremely excellent ginger flavor. Even the salt…you DEFINITELY don’t need to use the same amount as you would use Its VERY salty. Get Bofrot❤️❤️❤️ and millet porridge…it’s delicious
I don't know but I think the abundant sunshine and rain we have in Ghana is responsible for our flavourful food. Our herbal medicine for instance is well respected across the world
@@markntiri8251 Amen. I have chronic back pain but I don’t have it when I am in Ghana. When I return to the US, it comes back. Sunshine is definitely under appreciated
@@delaandpatricethedogbatsef2089 exactly. I feel you.
@@myAfricanAffairs 🙏🏽
Not white beans sir! It's the common black eye beans, or black eye peas.
Love the way the man is speaking Ga language with the seller "amadaa" I miss home!!!
You will end up loving all Ghanaian food trust me...... I'm from the southern part of Ghana but I love northern food in Ghana.....Try a northern food too and their local drinks you will love it.
Great camera work and production. The food and vibes looked amazing. Thanks for sharing. Bless Up from NYC.
Thanks bro
I think you guys should also check out the Jamaica 🇯🇲 village!! Not sure where in Ghana but it's beautiful!! Actual Jamaicans living there!!
Is in the aburi mentains.
Aburi mountains
You must have Ghanaian Ancestors..
I know what you mean by the Moses Basket and all
Look at u going after that Red Red! Hahaha...u thought it was too much food, I said, U wait till he starts to chew it down! Lol
We make garray in st.Vincent, but we call it feyrine. We soak it in warm milk and sometimes we mix it with crushed avocado. It's good.
It’s cool to know that’s something you share in your culture
Same as GHANA..we can eat gari in different ways
Same here in Ghana. We use it for 3 different meals. We mix it with oil for waakye, use it raw for redred, soak it with milk and peanuts and drink just like cereals.
@@rogeramenyah746 ur right
@@rogeramenyah746 but we make gari go)t) too, thats what I thought you were gonna mention and eba, just like the Nigerian have too
Of course the Red Red is your favourite so far, because its fried plantain! Who doesnt like fried plantain?!
It’s cassava flour, cooked black eye beans/peas, spiced palm oil and plantation. The cassava flour is made the same way bammy is made in Jamaica but dry fried in a cast iron skillet. Garri is sometimes served in Brazilian restaurants too. This meal does not normally go with eggs or fish .
Traditionally no egg needed but people just eat whatever to make them happy, I even sometimes don’t take gari in it just avocado and bread with no plantain.. I miss Ghana, I just hope I make it out this December
Red Red must be some kind of good, cause everyone is lining up.
I think it’s affordable, filling and packs a nutritional punch so that’s also another good reason to line up 😎
Do not call me greedy but the Red Red need two slices of hard dough bread to go with. I sometimes eat the baked beans and ripe plantains with bread here in JA
If you eat that with bread you might not be able to move for a while or you'll need to sleep lol. The Gari (Cassava grains) under the black eyed beans is too filling and also with the palm oil, plantain and egg. Man, I am full just watching this.
Have you tried baked beans with fried onions and scotch bonnet pepper on top of plantain with a slice of hard dough bread? Yum.
@@j4288 lol, for sure
Red Red is the meal you eat when you fancy an afternoon nap, it will put you to sleep quick. 😴
🤣 that explains it
Eddie and Nana are tour guides for real man! Really enjoying the vibes and it’s good to be in good company ! Send their contact if you got it to connect with good brothers like that
Looks soo good. I just discovered your channel through these Ghana videos and I am binge watching all of them. The food looks delicious!
Hey bro.. can we link up.
That will be a fantastic idea. I'm here for it! Eating together holding a vibe #Unity
I hope you do link up. I've been subscribed to you for a while now and I love your food adventures.
Mixing eggs and beans together will send you to gas city all day 😁
SINCE you are not a fan of boiled eggs a suggestion is to tell Eddie to let you try boiled eggs with the fresh grinded red pepper sauce you had with tilapia.👩🏿🍳
😎
That smile alone brings joy to the world 🌎 ❤ best wishes loving every bit of it..
I'm a Ghanaian watching from New York City, the same red,red food you will buy it at the restaurant about $20 or more so when you come to Ghana eat Street Food✌🏽💜❤🇬🇭🇬🇭🇱🇷🇱🇷
I watch a lot of UA-cam channel but this channel is by far my favorite 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wooooo 😎😎💪🏾🇯🇲🇬🇭
Thank you for sharing can't wait to visit Ghana
😎
Really great content Ibby. Feels like I’m there. Now I want to try red red. 🙂
Ha he took you to a legendary red red and plantain spot, its been there for years it was my lunch spot when i used to work at my dad's office close by, memories.
Stephen this has to be my favourite of all the Ghana vlogs so far and they have all been wonderful to watch, just seeing you and your love experience a new culture that you have has on your list since forever come full circle and seeing Jilly enjoy the foods open mindely sets the bar. And that sweet loving moment in the line 👀💕💕😁
Aye Aye Aye is a very popular Ghanaian song of Praia Hailing God. It's a powerful chant/prayer/praise thank the almighty saying there is none greater. Its even more beautiful when some tribes dance to it 🤗
You finally had beans and plantain new you would love it. Surprised Eddie didn't get you some sweet bread with it. Maybe next time!
Bless up bro 💕💕
Steven and Jilly one thing you must know about African they not stingy on food. Am not African but when I was pregnant I only ate African food it's the best. You should try plantain chewy chips 😋
If you're stingy with your servings Africans take that as an insult and we might never eat your food again.
@@dorcaselohorodidi8602 you are surely right
I like seeing u retake baby steps learning to eat with your fingers...not fully there, but very nice to see...it shows u are definitely in the motherland!
That’s my journey now, a simple life skill here but something I’m working on each day, wait until you see more recent episodes to be uploaded.
@@SOAIVLOGS yaaaay! I'm so proud of how you've eased into the system so easily. If u are having a bit difficulty, u are not showing it! It's called open mindedness! Big ups bro!
Have u tried the JOLLOF yet? Try waakye next, u will flip! What u call Rice and peas on the islands, but with a darker colour and definitely different flavour, because of the reddish/burgundy leaves used to cook the rice and beans. Same black eye beans too. Those leaves are very medicinal too, while we enjoy it! Find the best waakye spot. Tell Eddie to take u to famous Ricky's joint in Accra.
Sorghum leaves
Africas all has good food.ill visit there to soon.thanks for vlogging.✌️
Still watching but I can say am a lover of street foods
I like the way u eat man as if u are Ghanaian. Welcome home
Waiting for the next. Glad you liked your Beans
Heyyyy...please try wakye!!! Try the one made by the Hausa ... they make the best wakye ❤️❤️❤️😂😂😂. Ghanaians looovvveee wakye. Thanks for showing off our beautiful country . I’m a new sub.❤️
😂👍🏾
They are not Hausas, most of them are from northern Ghana, and some are kotokoli people... we don’t have original Hausas in our zongos
@@kofisam4106 when she says Hausas is because majority of all Zongo people speak Hausa, even though Hausas are not from Ghana but the language is widely spoken in Ghana and across west Africa
This is so exciting! I totally get what you meant about the women singing. Jillian looked like she was very well pleased with her meal as well. Thanks for taking such good care of our UA-camrs Eddie!!!🌼🥰🌼
Awesome, I can't wait to try this dish. I got so hungry now 🤭🤭
I made red red once by following an authentic Ghanian recipe. I used black eyed peas. its really good. Very different from anything I've eaten
Glad it too was a good experience for you
Growing up in Ghana we never ate beans with eggs:) Just beans and plantain with gari. Interesting
You're right...
Just beans, gari, plantain and zomi oil=PERFECT🥰
Not sure who introduced the egg🤔🙄
Never saw that either. I'm like so when did we start adding eggs to red red?
Then u don't know 🤣🤣😂😂😃
You just couldn't afford eggs. Back in the days eggs were too precious. These days it's cheap and plenty everywhere....just like chicken nowadays.

Hey!...Ghana food don’t look healthy at all…the food is just too HEAVVY!!!
Greetings Soai, I love the vibes of the settings you all were in, the fact that you can see your food being prepared, the service, the natural building instead of complete concrete. @@SOAIVLOGS For real, what ah feeling to be home though eehh? Almost be indescribable I imagine?

You did not know gari ! They sell gari in America ( in the African shops ). You must mix everything together and eat with the spoon. Beans, gari, red oil and plantain. You don't grab anything with your fingers. Gari is a separate food on it's own. It can be soaked with water and sugar with milk. It can also be eaten on it's own with any soup. You are like a newborn baby when it comes to west African foods.
🌴AFRICA IS THE NUMBER 1
🌴HELLO MOTHERLAND
Try there porridge which we call soup
I am enjoying the experience through your lens!! I am in Ghana tooo, mi nuh bizniz😆!!! When you get back to 🇯🇲 pleassssse recreate some of these dishes. See y’all tmr!♥️
Bro thanks for show casing Ghana on your platform/ channel. We appreciate your patronage and ability to look beyond cultural differences in order to embrace what is before you. In my personal experience comparison is not always a good thing because it can come across as criticism. Please one little point, there is nothing like African food when you are in Ghana. It is Ghanaian food. There are typical breakfast meals but your guide chose what eat or your list might have made choose 'red red'. Any food can be eaten for breakfast it usually depends on what the person does as a job. People who do physical work tend to eat heavy food regardless of what time of day
So you mentioned kenkey. I don't know if your host in Ghana explained to you that the word "Kenkey" is in fact Corn cake given to it by the English but the locals corrupted it to Kenkey. Ga people call it Kormi and Fantes call their version dorkun.
Beans a.k.a red red a.k.a "gob3".
The song she was singing is a gospel song which translates: "He has been good with us. Gracious God He has been good with us.
And the song they were singing at the end is an appellation. "Aye" it doesn't really have meaning but it's like when you don't have the words to describe a feeling. You say "Aye". Usually it is used for royals and Kings. It's a song towards God for all the good he has done but you can't find words to describe. So you just say Aye
