I gigged relentlessly with one of these in the 90s when everyone else was trying to get a good sound with 100w valve amps in bars and clubs.Such a beautiful spread on the sound. As the vibe got bigger I fell into the trap of getting a 100w valve amp and couldn't recreate the beautiful warmth this hidden gem makes. I play stereo Oranges now and have been on the lookout for an 8240 for some time to use as my stereo clean. Great video!

I think Jim knew the valvestate series were the amps of the future . They were his favorite , best selling modern - hybrid amps in the 90's . I liked the ones I had . Great tones at low and high volume . This was a very nice tune and a good representation of the warmth from that stereo chorus 2x12 powerhouse . Great job , big J

Another great video, Johan. Amazing amp, really. Shame how unappreciated they are. The clean is great, the built in chorus is lush, and I love the drive as well. Takes to pedals very well, too. Mine has been my main amp lately.

Hi Johan! Excellent demo as always 👍 The Strat simply SHINES through this amp - I am surprised to hear how good the clean sound of this Marshall combo is.
And that bass line, man! I really dig the bass line in this new tune of yours - you've done a great job when composing and also playing the bass for this track 👌

Johan, how would you describe those G12Ts against other current models? I got one in a trade and it sounds much better to my ears than the current V30 with my Blackmore head. Much warmer in the mids, the V30 sounds hollow and sizzly in comparison.
Now he needs a soul companion in its 2x12 home and I can't seem to find one apropriate room mate for it. I thought about the K-100, the Creamback 65, the current G12T Hot 100 and the Heritage G12-65, but I have no chance to experiment unless I buy them... Help me out mate!
And by the way, your demos are the coolest in the tube!

I had one of those in the mid 90s. It was good just based on price but it was solid state, Marshall's first offering in that kind of amp. Its gain did not have the typical midrange hump of a tube amp, the high gain was fairly brittle and the clean tone was just OK, not like a Fender Blackface or Roland Jazz. I got rid of it eventually.

    Hi, JOHAN!
Looks like you made that video personaly for my motivation! This is my main sound kit: Strat + Valvestate!:-) Of course my Val. is not stereo, and it is not so strong, but basicaly this is my equipment for the last 1.5 years. One point is probably right is the unforgetable sustain of those amps. Looks like CBS Fenders were not so bad, as everybody sais. Greats from my old Dad, he somehow found your playlist on my channel. For Professor who worked with electronica your videos are VERY INTERESTING. First time I heard from my father, that Marshall with LP better, then Messa Boogie! So you have one more subscriber now. If he told me to say to you his "RESPECT", I must say: WOW! Because he never paid no attention for my music.:-) YOU DID IT!:-)
So, have a nice weekend, and I hope, he will like your video too.

Hi Zigfrid! Yeah the sustain was great at any gain level basically. Glad to hear your dad watches the channel, I have done lot's of technical research and teaching too in my day. Matshall and LP is a match made on heaven indeed. Have a great weekend my friend, and give my regards to your farher.
      Cheers Johan

    • @patrickfoster4586
      @patrickfoster4586 6 років тому +1

You're right about the CBS Strats! They got a bad rap due to the "micro tilt" feature which was quickly discontinued. They did crank out a few stinkers in the 70s but overall the CBS Strats are great guitars. Hendrix played some of his most iconic shows using brand new CBS Strats. While of course he had his share of vintage pre CBS axes he certainly didn't shy away from playing the CBS models. This tells you all you need to know about those guitars. Someone of Jimi's feel and status could have played anything he wanted and he played those CBS babies like there was no tomorrow. Much like the silverfaced Fender amps they get an unfair bad reputation. Which is great because it enables those in the know to obtain some great guitars and amps at reasonable prices just because of the color of the face or the owner of the company! Cheers!

Man I NEVER should have sold this amp back in 1993. I traded it towards the purchase of the 8100 head and 4x12 cab because I was joining a band and wanted the same tone in a half stack(the other guitar player had the same setup and I was having trouble matching his volume). Just last summer I was like, 'man I wish I had that old combo for this road trip'. Yes the cleans were very nice and this is the first video I've seen where that is the focus instead of the gain channel.

Beautiful tune! The sound is so smooth! This should definitely go on your album! Should have some nice fat guitar solo somewhere on top, though! ;-)
Why not do a comparison of the Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 Valvestates? I have a Mk3 we did a clip on some time a go and I had a Mk1 80V 8080 combo before I got my JCM600, and it sounded just fantastic. Rumour has it that the Mk1 sounds best, followed by the Mk3 and the Mk2. Please find out the truth!

Hey Johan would you mind sharing your settings on the Scuffham S Gear plugin??? I would die for them! Tried to copy from the video but failed...
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Pedro, Im afraid I don't remember but the master volume or level was cranked, as was the mids, the gain was kept as low as possible. I used the Stealer. I'm gonna do a new scuffham video soon and then I will declare the detailed settings. Cheers

I really like the Valvestate sound, attack (quick!) and tone. Anyone know an amp that can get a very similar tone? I’ve heard the 8100s overheat due to faulty electronics (hence why they are so cheap).

I've had a vs100 for about 5 years now, and I honestly couldn't ask for a better amp for $140. I run it in the overdrive 1 channel with the master cranked and the gain somewhat low, gives a great warm clean sound, you'd think it was all-tube not just one, though I did pop in a nos 7025 in place of the generic chinese-made 12ax7 which greatly reduced background hum as well as upgrading its tone magnificently

I had one a few years back and I regret selling it. It had decent "Marshall" crunch and lead tones.
How about another review that's a little more rocky? I'd love to hear it doing something more!

Here in Rio is it not too cheap ... a lot of person don't like these line amp. I think these line is a good call if you don't have money to buy a valve classic . Good job again .

This would go very well with the Fender Ultimate Chorus. Another totally 90s, stereo solid state gem with amazing clean sounds (but terrible drive).
