    You get more gold listening to Monte for one minute than you do listening to most other instructors for ten minutes. This guy understands a powerful efficient golf swing.

    Have you guys ever checked out Jim Hardy's The Release : The Moment Of Truth? I'm a convert after watching his videos and reading his book about it, hence I love to spread the word as I think it solves the mystery of why some techniques work and some don't. It all boils down to the concept that there are 2 sets of swing fundamentals in golf: 1 plane and 2 plane swingers. Each type has an ideal release due to the fact that the club plane is in line with either the left arm, or right arm (for a righty golfer). Hence when Monte talks about learning back in the day about pulling the chain, that made sense as back in the day the 2 plane golf swing was the "it" swing being taught. For that type of swing, pulling with the left arm towards the ball is the ideal release (because the club plane is in line with the left arm). Think of Bubba Watson, Justin Thomas, Jack Nicklaus, watch their swings from down the line and you can see the club is in-line with their left arm. But now that the 1 plane swing is the "it" swing being taught, that move can absolutely kill your golf swing. For the 1 plane swing, the right arm is the plane arm, hence you want to "throw" the club at the ball (Monte has this as one of his drill techniques, the feeling of throwing the club at the ball... also the Malaska Move is this exact technique). Think Ben Hogan, and Rory McIlroy, watch their swings down the line and you see the club is in-line with their right arm. But if you're a 2 plane swinger, this can absolutely kill your swing, unless you do a lot of modifications to make it work (Jim Hardy calls these people hybrid swingers, Dustin Johnson and Zack Johnson being two prominent people in this camp).
    Anyways, after understanding this concept, the light came on as to why some lessons and techniques have worked while others haven't, and it was due to what type of swing I was using at the time. Also anytime I hear advice or a tip, I can categorize it immediately as to whether or not it will work for mine (or someone elses) swing. So I highly recommend checking out.... very eye opening to understanding the golf swing better. :)

    IMO, the wrong move Monte was taught when he was young was to be “a handle puller,” which is where most high handicappers wind up when they think about “delayed hit.” (Malaska explains this in many videos.) I was a handle puller forever until I figured it out and actually I figured it out in practicing my chipping, where I was very bad. (Most bad chippers pull the handle with their lead hand.) When I understood the correct way, I took it to my full swing, which-like Monte says-is a casting move. It’s described by many teachers in different ways. If you follow Nicklaus’ key and get the clubhead to the ball before the buttons of your shirt, you have to unleash your wrists from the top (and Nicklaus says that: “You can’t release too early”). It doesn’t look like a cast at all if you rotate properly at the same time. (See the videos posted by “Mike Austin fan” to get best explanation.) FWIW, the best move that gets me releasing from the top and generating real clubhead speed is Hogan’s statement of what to do to initiate the downswing: “I feel like I’m pulling an arrow out of the quiver.” That’s not a “pullDOWN” move, that’s a pullOUT, unhinging the wrist move, like Monte describes in this video. Pull the club along the target line, away from the target, i.e., pull the handle to 10 o’clock, not down toward six or seven o’clock, and feel real speed as the angular momentum of the club takes over.

    it's funny because when you work with mike malaska, he wouldn't like the move monte does where the clubhead drops behind your hands. You're tipping the shaft to get the hands in the right position then you rotate through

    Brendon, so I watched another of your videos yesterday with Mike(?) who demonstrated the axe drill that Paul Cowen teaches. In that one ((and Cowens’ videos) he emphasizes turning the trail palm down on the downswing. Monte stresses having that palm almost skyward. Or am I wrong? Curious if that occurred to you too?

    • @davebaker7503
      @davebaker7503 2 роки тому

      Monte is also palm down. When the left humerous rotates to square the face, your right hand is going to be facing the ball.

    • @joancohen9769
      @joancohen9769 5 років тому

      Mr Malaska clearly advocates "INTERNAL" rotation of the right shoulder in the mid-downswing to square the clubface .He demonstrates this via using a steering wheel turing left and a tennis racquet. As a result Mr Malaska has very little pelvic and ribcage rotation at impact.Mr Malsaka's swing can work for golfers who have limited mobility in their pelvis and spine and thus may actually be the preferred swing for senior golfers and those golfers with chronic back issues.
      In the past Monte had a very good rotational swing.But for what ever reason,injuries or just ageing ,that is no longer the case

    • @arjanpetersen
      @arjanpetersen 5 років тому

      It is similar. Malaska doesn’t promote internal rotation of right shoulder. It is just a representation of what the club is supposed to do.

    I think,you need a good “pro” to have lessons with.The local club pro I have lessons with is just great.It’s me that’s the problem, or was, until I understood what he was trying to get me to do.Suddenly it all started to make sense.Something he was trying to get me to do,just seemed so wrong.But I know this guy is a great coach.So I stuck with it.Then I saw a vid by Bertie Cordle.DSTgolf.com . From there everything my pro was trying to tell me just worked.Sometimes it takes another viewpoint to put things over.I cannot blame my pro for not getting through to me.It just needed that light switch moment,and Bertie Cordle provided that.Let me hasten to add,I have no connection with Bertie.Just an interest in learning.And as far as i’m Concerned the pro I’m having lessons with is just brilliant,and I would recommend him to anyone,And I will do everything he tells me from now on.👌
