      Thanks Ed, it's a bit of a frustration for me but there doesn't seem to be much that I can do about it. I ended up rewatching this one after your comment, and yea this is one of my favorite videos and hikes. I almost didn't make it back to my car that day it got so hot!

      Verkeerderkill Falls at 187 feet, is actually taller than Niagara falls, and is an amazing place. Thank you for watching and commenting Amanda!

      This place gets 2 Gator thumbs up for sure. I can think of many locations that have one or maybe two of the unique features present at Sam's Point, but nowhere else that packs all these different experiences into one relatively short hike. Definitely, put this spot on your list Eva, and thank you for continuing to support the channel!

    You find the coolest places to explore! This film was magnificent. Love the drone footage, that really added something special to it as well. It seemed like every turn there was something new to see. This may have been your best work yet. The combination of the scenery and the way you shot and edited it just made it a joy to watch. Thanks.

      Thank you Aaron! I had a great time at this place, and I am happy with how the film came out. As a film maker yourself Im sure you can relate to the fact that sometimes the editing process can be frustrating and it can be difficult to put the pieces together. That was not the case here! Everything just seemed to flow together. Thank you for your support.

    Awesome footage and guide work by you on another cool getaway. What's better Ricketts Glenn or here?

    • @WALTERZOLNA
      @WALTERZOLNA  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you Douglas, and that is a very difficult question. They both make for excellent day trips and hiking opportunities. While the waterfall at Sams Point - Verkeerderkill - takes the cake in sheer grandeur and magnitude, the number of waterfalls at Ricketts, is overwhelming, and nationally significant. There may be no other trail like it in the country. Sams Point wins hands down for the scenic views, which are constant and amazing. While the pygmy forest at Sams Point is tremendously rare and unique to view, it has also been severely damaged by fire and has a dry savanna type feel. The forests at Ricketts are tall, lush, and moist and deeply shaded. Both possess old growth characteristics but I prefer Ricketts. The ice caves are a strong factor in favor of Sams Point and are unlike anything I have come across thus far in my travels, but the trail is only accessible at certain times of year. Ricketts has no counter to this special feature. Both areas have a lake, Sams Point has Lake Maratanza, which I did not get to visit, and Ricketts has lake Jean. I guess it depends on what type of hike you are looking for, but if I could only do just one it would be Ricketts by a hair just because Im preferential to the ecosystem there. Great Question though that has got me thinking!

    One of my favorite places to hike !!! Great representation, & footage, Walter...One time, I went hiking there snd there, I saw a huge 3 foot long snake swimming at the top of the waterfalls,... Nature can be surprising... Being a vintage camera buff, I also filmed my hike carrying a 5 lbs, 8mm, GE Vintage Camcorder...It's a great place ! Keep up with your great filming...

    4:41 - I did a real cruel prank here. As you approach this area, your vantage point makes it looks like this is leading to the edge of a cliff but it's not. So I went to the edge and pretended to lose my balance and fell off.... you should've hear the screams.....😆😆😆😆😆😆

    FYI the layered rock is all ocean rock from when the glaciers pushed the mountains up into the sky. This area was all underwater at some point millions of years ago.

    How long was the hike in and out? About 3 hours?

    • @WALTERZOLNA
      @WALTERZOLNA  Рік тому

      I guess it depends on the weather, how fast you hike, etc... I believe it was 6 miles round trip give or take... Probably atleast 2 hours one way. You definitely should check out the ice caves if possible and really take your time through there.
