Mitch brought the doubt upon himself. It is your duty to remove doubt if you're in his position and defend the deer. It is a strange looking rack, so obviously people will doubt it. Him not entering that buck or allowing an x-ray is ridiculous.
No one is required to enter a deer in any record book. Mitch killed 2 bucks that would have qualified for B&C before he shot the potential world record. He didn't enter them in B&C either. B&C never asked him to have an x-ray done.

Shot with Chuck at the WV State Shoot in Ona, WV many years ago. (1999-2000 or so). One heck of a great guy. I was a P&Y scorer at the time (i resigned voluntarily in 2009 or so) We were at some kind of shoot-off and cant recall the details but I think I lost. Lol. Signed on to be a CSS shooter right there and then. I loved that bow and talked about it all over WV. Still fond memories of a very stable shooting platform and accurate as anything I've ever shot. As far as this buck goes....Id go with what Chuck says is the truth.

In the whole state of Michigan since the early 1900s over 1 million bucks had been scored. Prior to Rompola there were only 4 bucks on the Michigan records with an spread over 25 inches. Over just a 6 year period Mitch claimed to have killed 5 bucks measuring over 25 inches. Im sorry but its just not possible, the guy was a fraud. He has had many opportunities to clear his name.

Local Michigander here awesome pod! Great guests and awesome insight. I’ve always believed in it personally. A lot of good information coming out lately. Michigan doesn’t get the credit it should for great white tails. Their just a harder animal to trick than any other whitetail state. Sense cams came out I’ve had 125”+ bucks on cam on public every year. I’ve been after a 6pt that will probably go over 130 for 3 years now. You gotta be a skilled individual like Mitch to get it done. I’m not there yet myself and that’s why I click on anything that has his name on it. True Michigan legend!

Well i am impressed with this podcast, i do know that to see Mitch's side or angle of this whole contradiction i must walk a mile in Mitches shoes,. I remember back when this all went down I made the remark the the BC club pissed him off plus others like ( deer and deer-hunting mag ) I still think that was the main reason he withdrew from the scene. Mitch has already accomplished what he set out to do kill the biggest buck ever, another thing he accomplished was he refused to kiss the mainstreams ass to get their endorsements, they have not made any money from this so the negative shit is put out. I can't blame Mitch 1 bit, and do believe his buck is legit............

He was dumping his sisters farm raised bucks up in Michigan on the land he hunted. He was caught doing it by someone I know and he’s a very respectful honest man. He had the bucks in a horse trailer and was trying to get my friend off the state land and he exactly knew he was and saw the bucks in the trailer.

I own a mountaineer bow i brought in 1994 it a good bow. i think the Rompola buck is real and would like the naysayers tell me what he did to change it. i am like Mitch the deer's i kill are mine and if i killed a BC buck i would not enter in in the book.

Chuck Nease - former owner of CSS Archery - can only explain so much due to a noncompete agreement which Milo Hanson had Rompola sign in exchange for an undisclosed amount of money. I was especially interested in this true tale of a Michigan monster buck because I lived there; grew up there; and know the general areas; became a member of the BAR; and had a chance to go stay with Chuck and help out before the company sold to Horton. Mr. Rompola stopped taking calls, he changed he number, he avoided questions and discussing this buck in full cooperation of the noncompete clause of any claims of a new possible World Record buck.
Now is the buck real - YES - REAL BIG! Can we prove it? NO (or risk a breech of contract lawsuit). So turns out that just having the world record deer is valuable for all the shows and sponsors and Rompola settled to take the "deal" rather than hire lawyers and present this deer to the public.
ATA buyers show we had life size posters and banners up to advertise the Swampmaster bow Rompola used with knots in the bowstring to make it his draw length (short-strung). After years of claims that this buck was not proven real .... doesn't really matter anymore .... it was a real buck that was real big but big business pushed Rompola into silence. He never wanted the pitfalls of publicity anyhow.
Back then we had a great thing going with CSS and had an interesting Team of people helping out along the way. It is interesting to hear all the "Cease and Desist" letters from various lawyers CSS had received - so no advertising nor mention of this potential world record could be used. Of course people might say Michigan does not produce such big bucks, however there are areas where the landscape is especially fertile and excellent farming where such great bucks exist and sometimes are seldom hunted in dense surrounding swamps. This is the mystique of such a great buck -- uncredited -- but I know the buck is totally real (just cannot prove it).
That's where the Big guy lives. The swamp. If one doesn't play $$ game well , they are hated the worst.
This sounds to me like Mitch would have had to pay everyone off for killing the World Record? The lawsuits came from him claiming killing the World Record free range Deer! I think Mitch got a little over his head if Deer really came from his Parents Ranch or Sisters Pen? If Tested would have proved wasnt free range? Could have been real but not nothing within 15” width as this 39” wide rack? Only ones close in BC or CBM in Gran Traverse county is the other 5 he has?? I’m sure if tested not Guna get be a Free Range it’s a Pen Deer an them are a Dime a Dozen just call the Deer Breeders if want another Mitch World Record!

The bow company was not well remembered but a quality piece of equipment. The buck was a real deer. Mitch shot it. Only real question is where it came from.

Yes, and that would explain a lot, because you can grow big pen deer, and also you can alter the growth of the antlers, by putting a spreader bar between the velvet antlers, as there growing, to create an extremely wide spread, and brow tines that look strangely out of position.This would also explain some of the other Bucks that Mitch shot after the rumors, that look very similar. So, Yes they could be real, authentic,etc. but the question is, were they artificially grown on his family's deer farm in Missouri, shot, and claimed to be from Michigan ? or were they legitimately, wild deer, harvested in Michigan ? Only Mitch Knows the Answer To That !!!

I think Mitch, was and still is a tremendous Whitetail Bow hunter, who was so dedicated to the sport, and proud of the all the Big Bucks in the record books from U.S.A. and the fact that the New World Record Buck was from Canada (Eh) Didn't sit well with Mitch. So I think he got a little carried away, and since he had the resources to do it, he just probably wanted to bring the Record back to the U.S.A. but when they called his bluff, and wanted to x-ray the Rack, etc. he decided to back out.

Ya right. It would make no sense to not get it X-rayed and properly scored. If the story is Milo Hansen payed him off and went into a contract with him so Milo’s buck would still be number one. How much money could Milo have come up with to pay him off? Milo does well but he and his buddy are no billionaires. The story smells from start to finish, the pictures and long distance between brow tines smell. There have been burning up in a fire stories, duplicates produced, you name it, more smell. Only that guy has shot giant bucks in Michigan, in the history of Michigan the racks run small in that state compared to other big buck states. Look it up, the facts are on the web. That area is sandy. More smell. Anything is possible, but if it was real, it would already number one. He went silent, not in shame but because he knew he couldn’t get it X-rayed or he was cooked. That way he could still brag he shot the biggest one but never have to prove it. He won the election, everyone says it was real. A sucker is born every minute, you guys really got sucked in. The dark side of hunting, lying and faking are real, you guys know it, loosen your tin foil hats and try to think in terms of fame or infamy, money, logic and facts. Umm, yes, an X-ray and properly measuring it would do it for anybody, what don’t you guys understand? Hanson just sold his buck for 1 million. There was that much money to be paid from having the #1 deer esp is you hate interacting w/ ppl just wouldent be worth it. There's bigger deer than the Hanson buck on ppls wall that no one will ever see. Mitch was apparently some sort of sex offender (I'm guessing that's that's why he left Missouri and moved to MI. I don't know this to be fact just guessing) If Hanson's ppl were threatened him w/ that it, esp knowing Mitchs personality, it makes sense he just went away and said the rack burned up.

I think everybody needs to look at the Michigan fishing game newspaper. He made the front page. None of the things that everybody's saying match up to anything that they say. You guys say scent lock suit. They say It was a rain suit. You say he killed the second buck after he killed the big buck. In the in that article it says he killed 160+inch bully buck the year before because he was afraid it was going to hurt the big buck. So you tell me I had the newspaper and lost it. I wish I still had it but I remember what it says. It also stated they work for a company and they were working on synthetic dear scents. And people were accusing him of keeping it in a barn and it pissed him off so he would not let anyone score it.
The whole "he didn't want attention" excuse holds no merit. Mitch wanted all that fame, went onto score multiple other bucks, held seminars, started a website, claimed he had the new WR...until he was asked to provide proof. I’m from Wv and a coworker bought one of these bows and I thought it was called a Mountaineer I pulled it back and couldn’t believe the let off I would love to been able to afford one of these bows and that was in the early nineties. I think the buck is legit because the brows and points grew straight upward

No one has ever been able to back up the claim that his family had a deer farm. The people that made that claim never answer the question of where the farm was, except in Missouri. I'm from Missouri. The farm never existed. If it did, Missourians would know. The liars don't offer anything more than Missouri because they know they'll be exposed if they even name a county, let alone a nearby town.
Nobody says how he made those horns if they weren't real... it's one thing to say that is not a real set of horns but they should have to say what they are if they believe the aren't real.
Not all of us want the attention of today's world. We are a rare breed. I know he killed it. He hunts from his heart. He's a better hunter than Milo Hansen any day of the week. No comparison. Mitch is a hunter. Not a bragger
He might be a better hunter but that does not mean he killed a world record. And he did want attention, he worked in the industry and was seeking sponsors etc. The buck only disappeared when the pressure to provided definitive proof was applied.
Then we have the King Buck! Two deer that P&Y have screwed over.
Mitch never submitted the entry application to P&Y. For one reason, he knew the bow he used had more than the maximum of 65% letoff that P&Y allowed at that time. P&Y never had anything to do with the Rompola buck. Your comment makes zero sense.

It's amazing how hunters will attack other hunters. We are supposed to be working together. Then you get people like Eberhart that are so full of themselves, they can't take it when someone is better at anything. Mitch is 10 times the hunter Jon will ever be, and Jon knows this. Mitch has been in the record books since he was 14 years old(Edit 9 years old). He's proved himself over and over. Jon and friends are just envious, vile people who can't be humble for 2 seconds. Watch any of his videos. He will tell you how dumb you are in the first 2 minutes of any video. He's just better than everyone. We have enough people on the outside trying to take us down. We don't need people in the industry in-fighting. Someone posts a pic of a smaller buck, or doe, and 100 idiots online tell them why they shouldn't have shot it. No idea where and why they harvested that deer, but they are sure you are wrong. IDK what happened, but men got really soft in the last 30 years.

Back in the early 80s I seen in the back of a guys truck a 4 point rack that 36, wide that went straight out I have large hands and could not put my fingers around it at the base . I could not believe what I was looking at . I don’t remember who it was but to this day I remember it . Nobody wood believed it if they didn’t see it . I ask him where he shot it and he said down in the river swamp in south ga .

How much would he have had to pay for an x-ray that wouldn't have stopped the haters from hating? That would have had to be paid for by Mitch. No one offered to pay for it, and no records keeping organization ever told him he had to do that.
If he killed the WORLD record he would have it verified this isn’t just some state record buck. No way a man hunts that hard to kill a buck like that was supposed to be just to bush it off like he doesn’t want recognition. This is a crock

He had all his prior bucks scored and entered into state record books and had done prior interviews and media related to those so he clearly cared about the notoriety. His world record is a scam which is why it "disappeared"

I chased a deer in 87 that I believe was as big as Mitches buck I missed him that fall I never got another opportunity! My dad could have killed him the next fall but being the meat hunter he always was the deer had his shoulder behind a tree and he never considered shooting him in the hind quarter to put him down. That deer died in those woods with no one ever putting hands on him. That was in eastern South Dakota in the late 80s. My point being I believe Mitch killed him got mad at the publicity seekers. Because I know deer of that caliber while not common are there and just never get seen !
If it's real why was he scared to get the antlers scanned, also shot three or four bucks of record size out of the same area, that hasn't had any records taken in the past

It's as simple as this. It's not a B&C buck. It's not a P&Y buck. There are procedures to follow to have buck entered. He chose not to enter this deer, so it's just another deer, of many.

Furthermore, not one deer in the entire state of Michigan has been taken since (so over 25 years) that looks even remotely similar to this. Just takes a little knowledge about the region and area to totally invalidate Mitch's mystery buck.

I don't believe that The Milo Hansen buck was ever x-rayed!! They don't x-ray every deer that is world class.
