    Back in the 1970's I was working at a Country club in Maryland. There was an old set of clubs that had been abandoned for some time . I asked the manager if I could have them and he said sure as he wanted the room for more junk. I went through all the pockets and low and behold there was 2 100 dollar bills in the pocket with several tees . I kept the money and did not tell anyone for a long time. I purchased an old Honda motorcycle with the money . I did not feel guilty at the time as I made money only on tips from the members . Now I feel a little guilty spilling the beans on UA-cam . Oh , the good old days.

      lol you were told they were yours and we have so much sin and regret don’t sweat the small stuff. I was at a goodwill and I was trying to explain to the manager that the people that were gathered around the door in the back were an issue fighting over items etc. When I looked down there was a wad of money and I picked it up held it while talking to this weird manager while she explained they deserved to get all the deals they wanted. I held up the wad of cash I found and she said you’re not going to keep that are you? I said certainly not I’m going to donate it to a charity. I guess she thought goodwill was a charity shop lol…..nope

    you have exactly the amount of snow that we do. It’s been raining for two days. Here in south, central Washington state we had about 6 inches of snow in one day last week after single and teens in the temperature range. But it is patchy just like yours. It’s supposed to get up to almost 50° in the next week.

  • @SherryAnnOfTheWest
    @SherryAnnOfTheWest 8 місяців тому +3

    The upholstery on that office chair can actually be painted --- it's not that difficult (mask it off and use almost any kind of paint) and you'd have a nice chair. People often wonder if the fabric gets stiff and my answer is always: "have you ever dripped paint on your shirt? It doesn't get stiff unless you saturate it over and over again like people's painting overalls."

    In one week I found three fully working vacuum cleaners, two montain bikes complete with helmets and anti-theft chains, a small safe with code and key and a high end dehumidifier. Some friends began by finding stuff on the streets of Paris then they bought a van and now have a big high end store where they sell antiques and reclamation finds and they restored a huge old house with materials found and are quite rich ! I sadly don't drive.

    I had one of those hat boxes when I was little... got it from my Aunt who kept her Troll dolls in it... Mine was the EXACT same design pattern on the outside, but a flatter box. ♥ I saw it and went "WHOA!!" I have seen that pattern before. So cool to find copper just sitting there for ya. I always like to see you take it to get cash for it, and see how accurate your estimate was when you first picked it up... you said $15, what will it bring? I wonder!! LOL.

    I think there was some actual christmas ornaments in with that stuff. I watched it and watched it and I swear. There was some in the far left. I would have picked up that chair and the stuff around it also. And that's what I mean. You see so so much stuff that you might overlook some things. That would at least make a lot of people happy where I live. The market may be different there. But I would think that there's still that age group. That's mid century and i'm not but they are so you sell things. I think I just saw some goodies in there that you overlooked. But that's what it feels like when you're watching and can't dig in yourself😢😅😊 I'll be honest it's frustrating. Once a year we used to have a thing in a small neighborhood. But it's still pretty big when you're picking up stuff. And but people had one night to put all the garbage or all the things they didn't want outside to be picked up. Our city did a terrible job of pick up because they should have had multiple three stores picking up. And not just garbage trucks because there was full tables and chairs the kind with the claw feet on them metal. And it's a really popular name. But I haven't been to bed yet. So I can't remember it. But people want it, And at that time they really wanted it. There were old bricks stacked in perfect shape. And I mean old collectible. There was 3 layers of houses there. Farms from way back( Is property sold) to ones that were built in the 1940's. I went out with a pickup truck In the daylightat the start of the night before even though it was a little bit embarrassing, we started collecting! There was so much cool furniture there were so many antiques. Whole sets of beautiful dishes for everybody's taste. Some of the things we're worth of fortune, especially at that time. Because that's what people were collecting. Pottery and things that have never lost their value. There was everything from jewelry boxes with real and costume jewelry. Both collectible or was money. Clothes worth having. Real house plants with nothing wrong with them. It started getting shocking. We had it come back and unload which was really hard with the bricks. It just seems so stupid to put this good stuff in a landfill. We didn't have any metal recycling here then at all. But even though I don't sell things that time I did because there was a couple of shops that normally. I wouldn't want to give things up for the amount they pay. But because it was virtually free I made good money! I paid all my utility bills for the whole year. I had enough to pay for the House for twelve months or so. I gave away some of the things. And I kept all the oil paintings of flowers that were a 100 or more years old. Kept the old lamps stained glass windows. I know there was more Stuff to name off. Tons of metal when it comes to plant stands and decorative stuff that people go crazy over. It was from the 1800s to like 1910 so Victorian ish stuff. There were light fixtures from the original houses that were there and redone or they were torn down and new house is built. So I got tons of chandeliers and wall sconces that people went crazy over but I kept them. I was going to build a house and want all these things 1 day or move into a house. And if it was redonunmodern I was gonna put more original stuff back in it. Most of it has been taken from me unfortunately but that's a whole other story. The point of this garbage day was because this was a neighborhood that tended to have really messy yards and people left lots of cars jacked up in junk everywhere. Usually you associate that with low-income. But it wasn't necessarily that it's just the way that neighborhood was. It was known for it and having actual pink and pastel colored houses before. It was ever cool except for Victorian houses. Of course, but these were not Victorian the 40s. Ones were made out of cinder blocks l o l. Anyway that's my collecting story, We had so much energy that we were doing like when you have to race the garbage truck to pick up first. They were literally right behind us. Sometimes I even left notes on things and said please don't pick up promised to someone😂 We were worn out by midday. But good times. I know a lot of people who sold antique showed up there. We did everything but threatened them for being in our neighborhood😮😊

    Is this an older
    neighborhood or homes just made to look older.
    It looks like newer homes. Because the street and sidewalk dont have a lot of cracks.but they could have been repaved or new concrete.
    As much as I enjoy seeing what people throw away. I love seeing the neighborhoods.

    I just don't understand the mentality --- I mean, ok ... if someone dies (which could be the case here where the giant pile of stuff is loaded up in the street) and their kids want to get rid of everything, that's fine --- it's a lot of work. But, why not put up an easy-up or something on the lawn with a "free" sign instead of putting it all out in the trash in the rain. Not only were there some (ruined) things people would've wanted, but it's SO bad for the planet. I get it that you don't want to estate sale it or rummage it yourself, but at LEAST donate it. That's crazy.

    • @jerrsygirl
      @jerrsygirl 8 місяців тому +3

      I have had that discussion with many people in that situation and their answer is I just don’t have the time. I just want to get rid of it. They don’t care. Period.

    • @lillianwilliams5510
      @lillianwilliams5510 8 місяців тому +3

      Most older people either try to organize their belongings and either give away or donate. Or they hold on to everything for many reasons.
      Unfortunately many family members do not want material items from the deceased. They don't have or want to take time to sell or donate.
      Many relatives don't need. So they just throw away. In most cities there is a used furniture dealer or antique dealer who will buy.
      Also if there are shelters or thrift shops they may pick up.
      Salvation Army will pick up furniture.
      Sometimes when a person dies there is no family. So the city will take the property.
      This looks like the family just wanted to hurry up to get everything done fa
      Unfortunately many people just don't need or want or maybe there were bad feelings towards the deceased and just don't want to have anything to be responsible for.
      Family should talk to their older/ elder relatives and try to work with the person to know what their wishes are.
      Unfortunately many older people have a hard time preparing for their death.
      Also if it is an untimely death.the deceased didn't have their affairs in order.
      So sad to see perfectly good items get ruined.
      Younger people don't appreciate what older people worked for and just want money.
      Also if they live far away they may not have the money or time to transfer personal items.
      People should just give to the person what they want them to have.while they are alive.but that is not always easy to do.
      Lastly people hold on to much because that is their life.

    I will start out with I hope you had a good birthday! Sorry I only know because I see it in the comments. I can hardly wait to see what you got to get into today! I always dream that I get to ride with you or follow you and take The stuff you can't sell or do something with. Like the Rio woven furniture or plant stands baskets. The things that don't sell that good there mean a lot to me personally. I don't sell things I just have people rip me off. But I do have some precious things still. When I get home again I will be needing more antiques. And I do not mean mid-century. I mean antiques, maybe if it's mid eighteen hundreds l o l I like my fifties earlier. A few things from that time most of it's thirty's or before. Kind of like what it would have been in some of those big houses before they were modernized.

    another great video !! By the way do you ever snip coupons? Have you ever watched the extreme couponing videos? It amazes me how folks can co-ordinate it all so they have coupons in date order for items on sale and get so much free as a result. You and Paper & Moose should do a colab of some extreme couponing, that would be so cool !!!

    Your Gulf experience is very educational, l don't play gulf. Its rude to tell someone to shut up, you never know what you might have learne.
    I'm glad you kept all the gulf club bags, its not how expensive they are...its still money spent, also like you said extra gulf bags for friends.
    great logic
