An absolute masterpiece. A tour de force. I congratulate the film-maker,. magnificent. Having read what I could of Dostoevsky I still knew so little about him, until this. Paul Scott
This is an exceptional film about an exceptional writer. I was fortunate enough to read Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov and The Underground Man by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky when I was already over 30 and had a good humanistic background. His work impressed me greatly because in it human emotions are genuine despite being paradoxically fictitious. His characters are able to feel the world with the intensity that we ourselves should feel, but cannot because that would be extremely painful and dangerous. Man, especially modern man, desperately needs to distance himself from his emotions because they are black holes that suck ordinary people (and we are all ordinary) into an undesirable world in which suffering inevitably becomes an abysmal, phantasmagorical reality from whose clutches we can no longer escape. Dostoevsky intuited this with great insight and created characters who live intensely what the reader should not experience except in an imaginary way. Tragically, he himself seems to have been condemned to live like his characters. This is what the film tries to show, despite ending in an ironically optimistic way.
This made my day. Been wanting to find the English translation for months and my prayers have been answered! Thank you whoever uploaded this and may God bless you forever.
